Coast Bastion Hotel

We stayed in room 904. The view was incredible. The location made it very easy to travel to the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre for a swim meet. We appreciated the size of the fridge and the microwave which we requested in advance. Extra towels were available on request. The a/c was loud but kept the room comfortable. Bathtub was very slippery. One of my kids fell out of the tub and came close to hitting her head on the toilet. (A rubber tub mat was provided. Just be careful that you stay on it.)

The bathtub stopper leaked so I couldn’t have a relaxing bath. I would have appreciated the extra room of a queen bed but we managed with a double. The restaurant was expensive for the serving sizes but appreciated the convenience.

Harbour view, lounger I love, love. Patio door is awesome. Love bedding and pillows. Reusable soap, shampoo, etc is excellent. Very clean rooms.

Housekeeping didn’t come back to clean room once we left late morning. They came around 9am and slid a note under door that said we missed them. We let front desk know we wanted cleaning service but they never did come. Came back to a messy room, full garbages and unmade bed. Really wasn’t happy about that. They need to keep the cleaning staff checking rooms throughout the day. All people leave their rooms at different times when they are not checking out. Coffee provided in room is bitter, not good. Tastes cheap. Need a small microwave.

Very warm and welcoming staff, even when we arrived off the ferry at nearly 0100. They also helped us choose the best Coast Hotels for later in our trip. When we had a small problem, they listened, apologised and instigated immediate action to fix it The fitness room was one of the best anywhere; decent machines in full working order, a view out of the window across the water to the mountains, and a large terrace immediately outside to use for exercises and stretching. The location is great, in the heart of the town, next to the Marina and near to a selection of cafes. The underground parking was welcome and reasonably priced.

The air conditioning in the room was very loud. The coat hangers were of the anti-theft variety, which made it hard to hang up beach or sports kit to dry. They were a surprise as we imagine the clientele of such a great place would not be the sort to steal coat hangers

Exceptional Service. The reception staff went beyond our expectations to ensure our requests were met and were very pleasant people, as were all staff that we encountered in the hotel . The view is absolutely amazing...fantastic location, best in Nanaimo. The in-house restaurant opens early and has a varied menu to suite the needs of various diets. I highly recommend this hotel if you are staying in Nanaimo; you will be treated well and will appreciate the location etc.

I cannot identify any aspect that we did not like. The hotel is, apparently starting an upgrading this fall, so it will remain fresh..always good to know that they have plans to keep the hotel in top shape.

Excellent service from reception, the restaurant and room cleaning staff. The hotel overlooks a lovely harbour with a backdrop of other islands, an amazing view and the parking is connected to the facility. The hotel is just across a road from the harbour that has a long promenade/walkway that follows the shoreline. This has on it small stores and restaurants, parks, areas to sit and aquatic rentals. The harbour is busy with ferries, small and large, as well as kayakers etc; it is a place to sit and enjoy the 'show'. There is access to a small mall and many restaurants within 3-5 blocks. It is a good site to stay if travelling elsewhere on Vancouver Island as the main highway is close by.

The hotel is in the downtown section which is a small area compared to many cities. There are a number of street people , however, they did not affect our appreciation of the place.

Minnoz restaurant was exceptional. We are there both nights and were served a delicious meal both times. Our server was so knowledgeable and kind. I would highly recommend that you don’t leave the hotel to find a good restaurant.

The hallways of the hotel are a little tired but we were told they are getting a renovation soon. Certainly not a deal breaker for us. The homeless situation is certainly real close to the hotel if you walk into the old downtown but walking by the water was beautiful and we felt safe.

The hotel room was large, spotless, comfortable and had a lovely view of the marina that surpassed my expectations. Bathroom was very nice with tub. Location great as close to Harbour walkway and a short walk to the old quarter with lits of restaurants and shops.

As always when paying final bill for a hotel room I'm surprised at all the various taxes added on but having said that the same room in Victoria would probably have cost a lot more.

The staff was above and beyond helfull! Very confortable beds, location, location, location! All the shops, ambiance and the ocean view made my day!!

The hotel sidewalk is in a fair angle to de street. When it came time to repack my car, and alone, the cart with all my things moved on it's own right into my car...reliability was brought up to not fix the sidewalk...why not put breaks on the carts wheels? I will have the estimate for repairs soon...

comfortable beds close walk to harbour and shops

we had a pickup truck that was not able to go into the parkade due to height restrictions so we were scrambling for parking and it costed more than the hotel room. They told us we can go park for free in the parkade by the royal bank 2 blocks away but as we drove by there was an extremely high presence of street people and were warned vehicles get broken into all the time. so parking there was not an option as you get a feeling for area and it was NOT a good feeling. so we called the property and they couldn’t help us. I would definitely check vehicle height prior to booking. We noticed a lot of trucks on the street and all over due to not fitting in hotel parking

The Bedding and bed were superb. Rooms were spotless, and I love the Green philosophy you put in place! The front desk staff were terrific when we checked in and the service and assistance the bellmen provided to store all the things we purchased was great to protect us from storing it underground in our car and vandalism. Appreciate the extra concern and service that was provided. And...most of all the VIEW was absolutely Gorgeous ! Thank you, will certainly return next time. : > )
