W Suzhou

I have been working in Suzhou for over 18 years. Usually, I stay in another area, another hotel (we won't mention his name... but since COVID-19, it hasn't returned to the same level). I was looking for something else. Three months ago, I had a meeting in the W's lobby and was helped by the staff. And even though I was not a hotel guest, the staff helped me exceptionally. So I decided to spend the night there. I must mention the service of the staff at the hotel, the restaurant at the hotel - one of the best I've eaten... And another essential thing for me - the Gin and tonic is one of the best I've drunk!... Without a doubt, this is the hotel. The surroundings of the hotel are lovely. It has everything - view, shopping centres... excellent.

It is located in the new area of Suzhou, very modern and convenient as it is connected to a big shopping mall next door. But it is some distance away from the old town. Staff are polite and sincere to address your concerns and questions, nice.

The air-con did not function properly. We set the temperature to 17 degree C but the temperature never went down very far. This would matter during the day time as we had a much more costly lake-view room facing the sun. The air came out from the air-con felt like normal draft instead of cool air. It was even kind of warm in the middle of the night. If it was in the mid of summer, we would reconsider whether to choose this hotel.

The W lives up to its expectations as one of the better luxury hotel chains around the world. Very helpful and attentive staff in all locations ever ready to help you. We loved the location of the Toro Loco restaurant on the 37th floor and the terrace above. The Terrace is a great place for after dinner drinks. The W is attached to the Suzhou Centre mall which is probably the best and the biggest shopping centres I have seen in China. Great variety of retailers and excellent dining options in the mall.

We were disappointed with the air conditioning in the room as even after setting the control to 19 degrees before going to bed, it was quite warm in the middle of the night. This happened across both the nights we stayed there and it cost a few hours of sleep each night. Secondly we could not view any of the channels on the TV as the "OK" switch on the remote failed to work. Unexpected experience as we expected better room conditions at the W.

Location was great. Connected to Suzhou center mall with various restaurants.

The breakfast was not good. Most items were old. And the coffee was awful. The bathroom had a stench.

The gym was absolutely fantastic. It’s the most expensive hotel in suzhou and it’s the little things that make it so. Being welcomed into the hotel (I personally found being welcomed into a chinese hotel by a Western guy a bit weird, but many would like it), All day breakfast is great for those who can’t get up in time, lots of gadgets such as automatic toilets and various switches for curtains etc, well stocked minibar, good room service. Whether it’s value for money depends on someone’s budget and how much they value all these little things. 24 hour gym is a big plus for me, other hotels don’t provide access after 10. If they could find a way to make 24 hour access to the sauna then it would be perfect. But they do have 24 hour room service.

The various switches for curtains and so on got a bit confusing and annoying. The tv wasn’t aligned with the bed position, creating an awkward angle.

Great room decoration, variety of pillow to choose, room temperature adjustable to our liking.

Would like the toilet panel to be sufficiently opaque.

Very friendly staff, nice hotel layout.

Everything was great

We were greeted personally by the staff and managers, making us feel at home from the start. The room was modern and edgy, without being “over the top”. Excellent breakfast buffet and a pulsing bar and n the ground floor. Direct connection to the central mall.

Very difficult (impossible)to make dinner reservations at the hotel’s Chinese restaurant (tried 3 different days without success). There was trouble with the room heating, making the rooms a bit too warm for comfort.

We have not had the breakfast but room services were also very good, all in all very comfortable stay!

All Staff were very friendly, actively supporting. Bar has good vibe, not like a typical hotel bar. It was a pity we could not go to the high floor bar, that would have been great.
