Casona Rústica & Bungalow

Value for money, clean and neat rooms, beautiful gardens, rooms were cleaned daily, aircon, friendly and helpful staff, swimming pool, excellent breakfast included. Great mid range accommodation. The location was nice and quiet, it is a 15 min walk to the town centre or 3 min drive, but there are restaurants and minimarkets down the street. The hotel has a list of all the tours and activities with prices and the staff helped us book the activities. Your laundry can be done for you at $5 per kg, received mine the same day. There is a communal fridge where you can keep a few things, and you can use the microwave. The fridge is clean and tidy.

All was good

When I first arrived Eric greeted me and immediately made me feel very welcome. It was absolutely chucking it down outside so he took my bags to my room and then fetched a brolly for me to make sure I didn’t get soaked. The room itself was awesome, prettily present with beautiful towel art on the bed. All very well maintained, clean and ample of space. The breakfasts were amazing with a good selection of options. Having the pool was a real bonus, lovely to relax in after a day of sightseeing. There was also plenty of wildlife about, wee lizards and many different varieties of birds. Fro the price this is a real gem of a hotel. I stayed in one of the bungalows and it was just like having my own wee log house in the jungle! Great location for shops, an easy walk and sidewalks all the way. Would highly recommend!

Nothing, it was all perfect!

The property is a 20 min easy walk into La Fortuna and we enjoyed being outside the town. The hotel has fields/cows next door and trees behind and is set in a really lovely garden. Sitting in our porch (we had a garden bungalow) or lounging in the pool watching birds and occasional animals was relaxing and beautiful. There's a magical time around dusk that I particularly loved. Having open space around meant that it was easy to spot birds. There were 2 huge green parrots nesting in a hollow tree just yards from our room. The room was lovely and has a handy fridge (for those sundowners!) and a comfy bed. I thought the standard was excellent for the price.

Only downsides were little details, like no where to hang damp towels (like nearly every other hotel ever!!) There was no where to hang clothes - not enough "putting space", no shelf in the bathroom. You have to live out of your case. The room looks lovely but needs a bit of attention to some (boring but practical) details.

Everyone on the staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were great. It was in a quiet area outside of town just a bit. There were lots of birds and even cows out back. We heard howler monkeys. The price is affordable. The pool area was nice, and it was not busy while we were there, so it was peaceful to go out and sit by the pool.

We like to camp, so we're okay with rustic settings. However, the doors didn't seal at the bottom, and there was a pretty big gap under the door. We had a beetle, a palmetto bug, and lots of gnats get in our room. We bought cinamon rolls at the bakery for breakfast on a day when we had an excursion before breakfast started, and the rolls were full of gnats in the morning. I had some pineapple juice residue in a cup that also got covered in gnats. I'd stay there again, but I'd roll a towel up against the bottom of the door and keep all food in the refrigerator.

We loved the cozy, rural feel of the property. The property was only a 20 minute walk from downtown Fortuna and a 20-30 minute drive from location attractions like the Arenal Volcano National Park, Mistico Bridges, hot springs, etc. Our bungalow was well appointed and clean and we enjoyed the breakfasts very much. Downtown Fortuna has a nice little bakery, many great restaurants and places to grab a drink!

Even though the property sits back off of the road, you do get some noise from the adjacent car wash and a bar that are located nearby. The sound of the bass was noticeable (but not too bad) until midnight or 1:00 am on some evenings.

It was well decorated, clean, had all the essentials and more, was well located (very close to La Fortuna but also far enough to be in a more quiet area). The staff were very nice and willing to do everything to make the stay the best possible. breakfast was great too. we also got to see several birds, squirrels, colibrís, etc…!

things that could make it even better: - possibility to eat before 7am (like 6 or 6:30am) - possibility to request that towels etc. are not changed every night. we were there just a couple of nights and we could’ve certainly used the same towels, paper towels, soaps…it would make it more sustainable too!

We loved casona rustica! They kindly helped us arrange our transfer straight from the airport which meant we woke up in what felt like paradise. Delicious breakfast, beautifully decorated bungalow and a lovely pool area to enjoy when the heat got a bit much! All the staff were really friendly and also helped us book some activities with pick ups too. You’re a short walk out of town but we found the 10-15 minute stroll enjoyable (good pavement all the way) and as you have breakfast included no need to rush anywhere!

Nothing! We had a wonderful stay.

We loved our 3 nights stay in one of the bungalows! It was really spacious, great AC, nice veranda, beautifully embedded in lush green! The bed and pillows very comfortable. Hot shower. The room was perfectly cleaned and we got new towels and soap every day. Staff was very friendly and helpful with everything, even got help with ordering food and delivery from town. Breakfast very well cooked. We didn’t use the pool but looked nice. We would love to come back if we ever return to La Fortuna!

Only thing was we would have been happy with more breakfast options. Short walk to town (15min) , taxi back is about 2USD. Wasn’t a problem for us though, we were happy to stay a bit outside the center of town!

Amazing location, quiet, among lovely garden, yet close to the town (20mins walk). Beautiful flowers, nature, birds and other animals. Free parking. Extremely clean rooms, reception and dining area. Breakfast - 2 choices : traditional Costa Rican ( eggs, toast, coliander & beans rice, plantain ) or pancakes with fruits. Always freshly squized juice and fruits for dessert, coffee, tea, hot chocolate.we tried few restaurants in town but this breakfast was extraordinary ! Staff couldn't do more, always smiling, happy help, everyday of our stay they were ensuring we have everything we need. I really recommend this hidden place of heaven.

Everything was just perfect

The location was great, especially if you had your own vehicle. It was a little out of town so a bit of a walk. If you were getting picked up for tours there was no concern. They have a great breakfast, staff is outstanding, we used them to arrange any tours we did not book in advance and they knew what was available. We needed to change plans while there and Eric was very understanding of our needs and made special accommodations to help.
