Hotel La Guaria Inn & Suites

I have stayed at this hotel probably 6 times now. It's an older hotel with older style small rooms. Don't let that deter your stay because the staff is great, nd there is a lady that has been there for years, she is excellent. It's really close to the airport, like a 10 minute ride. You can walk 4 blocks to a bunch of restaurants located in the same lot, that are all good food and lots of people usually. The walk at night looks dodgy, but I have done it before with my small children and felt safe. The breakfast is awesome for the price you pay per stay.

There is no elevator, this didn't affect my stay because I was on the bottom floor, but it's something to be aware of. The bed in the room I had was hard, but still comfortable.

The hotelstaff are helpful and speak english well. The Hotel are perfect to stay when you arrive late in San Jose or when you have a early flight out. It is situated close to the airport. Breakfast are served early and it makes it nice for early departure.The free taxi service offered was a great incentive to stay in the hotel. Swimmingpool was a nice bonus after a long day spend in central town. Will definitely do the same drill next time when enter or exit Costa Rica.

No bar fridge in room,but they let us put our food in their refrigerator.They also sell coldrinks, water and beer. For a short stay, it did'nt really bother.

The location was great (very close to the airport) and the communication ahead of time was fantastic. The taxi from the airport is a little confusing, but Jose provided detailed instructions and we were able to figure it out (me and my travel companion arrived at two different times). Since we needed two rides from the airport, only the first was free, but the second was a flat rate that the hotel took care of with the taxi company and charged us for - I really appreciated that when arriving at a place where you aren't sure you can trust the drivers.

Breakfast could have had a few more options, but it was fine.

We did another overnight stay in the Junior suite March 29. The rooms were quite big and comfortable. As well as the bathroom. it was nice to have a balcony to look out. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful to our needs and the continental breakfast served was really good.

I didn't like that the hotel don't provide hand towels. Having stayed at dozens of hotels in Costa Rica this is the first hotel that I know of who has this policy. Added to that, we booked a two bedroom suite for 4 adults and only got three bath towels and this is not the fist time this happened. We had to wait for a good while to park our vehicle because the parking guard wouldn't allow us to park, even though there were two empty spots available, shortly after he give those spots to two other vehicles, probably friends of his. Thankfully the hotel manager took care of the situation after I reached out to him.

Everything you need for an overnight layover, great shower, comfy bed and close to airport in a neighbourhood with good bars and restaurants that felt safe. Good parking.

Initially warm welcome on arrival but pushed for cash payment and when mentioned card payment, attitude completely changed and became frosty saying he had to call his boss and kept saying that we should have told him before and seemed very reluctant to offer or accept a card payment. Note that the hotel had sent a message in advance and confirmed card was available as an option.

Loved the homey feel to this place, and that they could accommodate 5 of us in a room. The pool area is open air and was a great place to hang out while one of my kids used the pool. Location was very walkable, with several dining options within a few blocks, and the domed church not far away. I chose this location so we would be en route to our first vacation stop, rather than going into the city to stay.

Payment was in cash only. I checked my reservation on this website, and it doesn't specify that anywhere. I had asked ahead of time if there was a discount for paying in cash and was told no; they did not tell me that there would be an additional fee if I wanted to pay with card. I had enough cash to pay, but it did negatively impact my cash reserves for the remainder of the trip. This wasn't a deal-breaker, but it's not clear and it's something to be aware of for sure. Also, breakfast was a major let down. There was no gallo pinto, the cereal was stale, bananas were the only fruit, and they ran out and didn't restock that we could see before the breakfast hours were done.

This is perfect place to stay to get to and from the airport. It's only 5-10 minutes away (depending on traffic) and the shuttle service was prompt and reliable. Also close to banks, restaurants, etc. Rooms are basic but clean, and even had a small refridgerator. Air conditioner helped block out sound of traffic. Breakfast was decent - would have been nice to be able to get a to go box for catching early morning flight.

We stayed here two nights, once when we arrived and once when we left. The first room we were in (maybe 303?) had an older air conditioner unit that dripped condensation after being on all night. The bedside table got all wet and even a few drips on the mattress. We had no idea this was going to happen and were very lucky nothing got damaged on the nightstand. This air conditioner unit should be replaced. Seems they are aware of this issue as the bedside lamps under the unit had plastic over the shades to protect them from water damage.

Located within 1 to 5 minutes walking to pharmacy, convenience shops, fast food and local restaurants. Excellent service, and really convenient transportation arrangement to and from airport. Concierge was brilliant and very helpful. I can believe how inexpensive it was for our stay. This is definitely a good choice for anyone on a budget. Very friendly staff. The room was nice and clean, the beads and pillows especially were super comfortable, I wish I could take then with me.

Room in 3rd floor has luttle to no wifi reception. I had to go to the lobby to use the internet. The continental breakfast orange juice was... unusual. The AC was not working quite well.

Great little spot to stay for the night when arriving or leaving San Jose.

Free shuttle is great but it's a taxi that takes you there, when you exit the airport go to the LEFT, even though it may appear there is no door there. That's where the official orange taxis are that will take you to the hotel otherwise the men working there will try to convince you that the hotel does not have an arrangement with the taxi company and that you must pay yourself.

Great value for money, just what we needed after our flight landed late at night. Taxi paid for by reception, lovely pool and good continental breakfast of bread, ham, cheese, 3x cereals, mini croissants and jams, fresh pineapple, apples & bananas, lots of tea choices and coffee. The room was spacious, had good aircon and the shower was powerful. The reception were friendly and helpful.

It really depends on your expectations. It was basic and tired but clean. If I had to be really picky the orange juice at breakfast wasn’t good. But for the price it was perfect.
