Hotel CasaBakal - A pie de Laguna - Bacalar

I liked especially the location at the lakefront, with a beautiful view of the lake and the great sunrises. The room, in our case a bungalow with a great view of the lake with a balcony, was extraordinary

The selection of food for breakfast could be much better. There are only kayaks for one person. I missed two person kayaks in order to row with my wife. They di have them in other hotels and I missed them. There is only internet in the main building. For the bungalow they gave me a router, but the speed was extremely low sometimes 1 MBs. There are not enough routers for everybody, and I had to wait for a router to be available o the second day.

Location is superb, with direct access to the lagoon, staff is very polite and will go the extra mile to meet your requirements. The hotel has free kayaks & padel boards for guests, they also arrange tours (private or group) to several attractions in the lagoon. Casa Bakal is conveniently located less than a mile from city center, you can cycle, walk or drive to the town for a dinner. The hotel is well equipped and well regarded as a quality hotel in the lagoon. I would definitely come back.

My only bad comment is related to breakfast, it’s a bit simple and plain. You can ask for more options from kitchen but it will take time. The restaurant next to the hotel and part of the premises is a great option for dinner…try it!

This hotel was super cool. They have water, tea and coffee for free 24/7. And as a bonus you can borrow paddle boards or kayaks for free. And they have a dog which is very cute guy. The hotel is situated right by the lagoon so you can chill out on hammock all day long. We borrowed kayak and paddled to the canal los pirates although it is 2,5km far away:-) In this hotel they have also two restaurants we tried only one and we couldn´t be happier. The food was so delicious and they make also very nice coctails and smothie and fres juice. I really recommend take a massage. I have had so many massages through out my life but this massage was just a dream. I was so amazed the massage lady was kind of spiritual person and I felt so relaxed after that.

The property is just amazing!!! So quiet and peaceful. The rooms are clean and the place is maintained so well, the waterin the shower is super hot and the stream is great (which is not common is Mexico). The AC is freezing! The breakfast is very rich, and I loved there is a buffet where you can take cereals, coffee, bread, juice and more. You can also fill your water bottle whenever you want for free. The staff are very nice, helping with everything (taxis, problems with the wifi and etc.). I loved that you can use the Sup boards and Kayaks for free. Also the pool next to the lagoon is a bit warm and clean! The view is ON SPOT! The facilities are wonderful right on the lagoon. So chilling!! Could stay there forever (just kidding, I need more money 😋)

The wifi was bad at our room, but they gave us routers which solved the problem. Also did not like that if you want to use the Kayaks or Sups at the sunrise it was only if you are paying for a guided tour (650 pesos). You can use them only after 9:00. We wanted to have a massage but the prices are very very high comparing to other massages we have had before in Mexico. Could have been nice to have an affordable massage for a young couple like us for example. Could have been nice to have a mini bar to store water. And could be also nice to have a T.V if you want watch sometimes.

The location is perfect, you have direct lagoon access, you have recline seats at the water, landing stages leading into the lagoon, you can rent kayaks. If you are there to enjoy the lagoon - this is the perfect place. Also, a big plus, that the breakfast had 2 vegan options plus fruit plus muesli. The staff was very helpful with many things.

Biggest negative point: The restaurant of the hotel does not have any vegan options and when I asked if they could accommodate, they said no, they only offer what is on the menu and I could have tuna or other things... Only options that are vegan are starters...but you might want to have a complete meal. That was a very disappointing reaction. If you want to explore Bacalar town, it is a bit further away, so I recommend taking a cab (but on the plus, cabs are still pretty cheap in Bacalar). Be aware that this is directly at the lagoon and there are many insects that might even visit you in the room as the roof is made of reed and not 100% close, I guess. The bungalow is very basic but you don't want to stay inside anyways.

What an amazing place! From the moment we arrived, Laura could not have been more helpful, friendly and welcoming. The staff overall were just fantastic here and we felt so comfortable in the time we were there. The facilities are incredible and the food on site and in the neighbouring restaurant Balik was just incredible . To top it all off the setting is like being in a dream and we had the best day on our romantic boat tour on the lagoon. Cannot recommend this place enough, we did not want to leave and will remember it forever. Gracias Casa Bakal.

The location is great, you can go to do kayak for free and it is an excellent spot to do it. The entrance to the Laguna is great!! you can walk or swim, it is not deep. The bungalow was tropical beautiful and the view it was incredible. The breakfast is included and it is delicious. It has a Mexican cuisine restaurant for dinner, it is excellent, we tried the Cochinita pibil and the Ternera with cacao sauce, they were delicious.

The mattress was extremely uncomfortable, it has a hole in one side of the bed. It will be nice to have a TV in the room.

We had a bungalow directly at the lake but the way to the other hotel rooms is in front. The views are beautifull and it is the best location for exploring the lake via canoe. One of the small islands is directly in front with lot's of birds. The breakfast is really good, you can order 2 meals a la card and you have a small buffet with fruits, bread and coffee. Also the food for dinner and the stuff is nice. Best magaritas

Wednesdays is rest day at the lake so you can not use canoes, SUPs etc. at the lake (I like that fact but I wished they would have told us at the beginning of our stay). The stuff at the reception is not warm welcoming but they fullfilled all our requests nicely (change of bed sheets with a stain and a softer pillow). I can not reccommend the rooms for persons sensitive to insects and a bit dirt ( the roof is just made by palm leaves and lets animals in). Also doors are not closing completely so geckos can come in all the time.

Lovely lagoon front property. We took a kayak out and had a look around and it seemed to be the best facilities around. The bar tender was great- didn’t catch his name unfortunately. Also lovely service from the rest of the staff- from housekeeping to helping with bags.

This isn’t specific to the property, but there is a ‘no navigation day’ on Wednesdays in Bacalar (presumably to help preserve the lagoon) - would have been good if the hotel had let us know this prior, as it also included kayaks and paddle boards etc.

The place was beautiful staff was amazing and location was great. I really enjoyed the free breakfast n the great food and drinks they served throughout the day. Everything was way fancier than I expected

I couldn't find authentic Mexican food but I guess it depends on the location. The mosquitoes are horrible! Something should be spread around the dining area. Beds were a little hard but the bigger rooms are nice.
