Hotel Dona Sofia

The staff were very helpful and accommodating. The location is perfect, it literally couldn’t be any better! Our room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was good quality.

The parking is not really existent, which was frustrating as we’d used a filter on booking.com to only browse hotels with parking. There are a few spots directly outside the hotel, but they seem to be permanently occupied!

I stayed here in 2022 and enjoyed it. The location is very convenient. This hotel is good value for the money. I had a spacious room with two beds even though I was only one. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and recently renovated. There is a modern shower stall. The controls were somewhat inconveniently located. It is amazing that designers can’t come up with better simpler and easier to use showerheads and shower controls. Warning: The floor of the shower stall is very slippery. There is a small bit of mat on the floor and I suggest you use it. There is a typical buffet breakfast to get you started.

The location is just perfect. It is so good to have the opportunity to go around Braga in the morning with no tourists. The breakfast was also one of the best during our 2-week trip. The room was quite nice as well, the view to the square outside was very good. Secured wifi also a good thing. And the personnel at the reception was very helpful.

The parking is very limited, and I would say zero options to find free parking on the street. Although the hotel can help to negotiate a better price for the parking in one of the parking plazas, you still need to add 10 euros per 12 hours on top. The number of power sockets also was a bit limited.

We were surprised at how good the hotel and our stay were. Everything looked new, comfortable (even had 2 quality pillows each,) and spotlessly clean to an extreme, it was a delight to come back to our room every day. The room had a nice view, and it was very quiet, with no noise from outside even though we were in the heart of the historical center, another great bonus: Excellent location, within a few meters of walking distance to most stuff. The staff was extremely friendly, the room cleaning was so fast that it surprised us. The breakfast was really good with everything I could wish for, fresh and consistent every day. We ended up extending our stay because it was so nice to stay there and enjoy the city. It was a superb stay! 5 nights!

We liked everything passionately and we have no real complaints. If we were really forced to be picky, it would be the limited number of free parking, but we always managed quite well anyway.

Location is fantastic, right in the heart of Braga's old city. Room was spacious and clean. Free breakfast was pretty good. Nice roomy bathroom. Bed was comfortable.

Each floor can be in heat or AC mode, but individual rooms can't switch between them. We arrived just as temperatures were dropping and we wanted some heat, but our floor was still set for AC; however, I reported this to the front desk, and someone promptly brought up a space heater that was more than adequate to make the room warm enough. The elderly lady who owns the hotel hangs around the lobby and dining room a lot and wears an unfriendly countenance most of the time. The front desk staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, but having this owner hovering about seems to alter the overall mood of the common areas.

The reception staff were very helpful when we asked them questions. When we needed laundry service, the staff offered various helpful options. After we feedback that we felt cold in the room, they immediately arranged an additional portable heater in our room to make us warm and comfortable. Hot water was consistently hot so showers were enjoyable. Breakfast was good and the kitchen and cleaning staff were polite and friendly when we met them. The location was great as it was close to food, attractions and shopping. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in this hotel.

This is an older hotel that has been mostly well maintained. It has some very dated-looking technology, probably from the 1960s or 1970s. The room was basic but still good. The bed was not what North Americans might expect, with a giant mattress. The bathroom was modern. Everything worked well. There was a basic breakfast buffet. The coffee machine was temperamental, the staff had to wrestle with it on several of the days I was there. The location is excellent, right in the centre of historic Braga. Overall, this was a good place to stay, even though it is not a super-modern place and has some quirks. The room rate was reasonable, perhaps because it was the off-season. I would stay here again and would recommend it to others.

The wireless did not work the first day, but whatever problem seemed to be occurring resolved itself the following day. Overall, the wireless was adequate, but not the best.

The location is unbeatable for exploring downtown Braga. I stayed for an extended period as I was taking a course at the University (which is an Uber or bus ride away). The pricing was such that I was able to do that. The room was spacious and lovely in an old fashioned way. Breakfasts were fine with good fresh items to choose from. Staff was helpful.

The location was excellent, especially if you are lucky enough to get one of the 6 parking spots in front! You can walked to almost everything from the hotel. We drove to Bom Jesus the last morning since we didn't want to leave and lose our parking spot. This is a good way to do it. The staff was cheerful, friendly, helpful with things to do and restaurant suggestions. The buffet breakfast is the best we've had for our 2 weeks in Portugal. Eat at the small Portuguese restaurant suggested by the hotel staff. Excellent meal and caring chef.

The parking was promoted however there were only 6 bays and on a first arrived basis. This was a little misleading as our late arrival was fairly difficult to find parking when one of the main reasons we selected the hotel. It was expensive however peak season and a popular city
