Parador de Alcañiz

Beautiful building, majority of staff friendly and helpful.

Found one member of staff serving in restaurant very rude, this will be forwarded separately to the Parador directly.

Location is superb with fantastic views in every direction. Being an old castle there was a great atmosphere about the place. Very friendly staff. Room was very clean and spacious. I was in a west facing room and the sunset was spectacular. Breakfast was very good with a good range of hot and cold fayre. I ate in the bar, so can't comment on the restaurant but the pepito de ternera I had was excellent.

No real downsides to the hotel for me. However, one tip, by all means use Google maps to get to Alcaniz, but switch off when you get there and follow the signs, otherwise you'll end up down every little back street in town, as I did.

The location as part of the old castle on the top of the hill overlooking the whole town was just outstanding. The breakfasts were very good and the dinner we had in the main dinning hall was exceptional, looking down over the city.

We had requested for a double bed but only got 2 single beds which seems to be a more common arrangement in Spain. The information about the location doesn't mention that the access is via some very narrow & steep streets which our car was not well equipped for.

Great location, friendly and very helpful staff, awesome views, good food and plenty of parking. The access road is fun and certainly gives a workout if you walk it !!

Got the breakfast order wrong twice in one sitting, that's pretty much inexcusable in such a hotel ! Other than that, everything was good.

Staying in a castle on top of the hill was awesome. It made for some incredible views and we were able to walk into town easily.

Both our check in and check out staff were not very welcoming, almost a little frosty and seemed too busy to help. Since it’s an older building, the insulation was not the best, so you can hear your neighbors

The location. if you want to stay in a “castle” then it’s OK for one night. Other than that it’s just a hotel which offers nothing special. It relies on the reputation of Parador hotels, which to be fair is over rated.

The restaurant is overpriced and serves small portions. The young staff have modern day customer service attitude, poor!

On the second night although the dinning room was open, there were no staff in there to meet us and we stood at the door for a long time before one of the two staff came out of the kitchen. Through the evening we noticed this happened a few times to other customers as well.

The quality of the breakfast coffee was so, so. Shouldn't be difficult to install one or two coffee machines with capsules where guests can make their own choice of different types of coffee. Plenty of hotels with less than your stars have them. I was eager to buy documentation, or a booklet, with something of the history of the building and of the the town. I was told that they used to have something but they didn't anymore. Sure, if you look hard enough you find stuff on the Internet but I would have liked a nice souvenir.

At dinner we were served what was called hummus- it was inedible and was accompanied by a limp pile of rocket with no dressing and none offered. . Such a shame for this exceptional venue. The rest of the meal was simple but fine.

This Parador is a Castle on the top of the hill with a magnificent view. The building itself is a wonder of centuries past and easily one of the most amazing places I have stayed. The breakfast is delicious. The bar meals good for lunch - we did not try the restaurant for dinner.

The breakfast room is smallish, so booking is required to accommodate all the guests. This also means that it is not possible to linger with one's morning coffee... The food and service is great
