Hotel Matilde by Grupo Matilde

We stayed at the Hotel Matilde for two weeks, room only. Our east and south facing room overlooked the port, a park (cafe, rose garden, fountains) and the Castillo de la Luz (Fabulous conversion into the Martin Chirino art foundation - see it). Our room had a fridge, balcony with chairs and table, safe, plenty of storage etc and a large bed. There's a roof terrace overlooking the busy port (you can watch the cruise liners come and go!) so take a bottle of wine up there. We didn't have breakfast (ate our own feast on our balcony) but it looked fine. You can buy an excellent coffee for E1.50 at reception (I think there's a coffee maker in some of the more expensive rooms) and right next door there's a cafe. Supermarkets - small Suma to the right, large Dino's to the left over the road. Buses are constant and just E1.40 for any distance within Las Palmas. For the La Canteras beach with all the restaurants and bars, turn right and walk about 8 mins - perfect! The beach is nearly two miles long and great for people watching (and breakfast, lunch, dinner etc by the sea). Porto Market and the superb Aquarium are close by (walking distance.). Old Town - take the number one bus, about 20 mins. for the Columbus House, CAAM and Museo Canario. To get to Hotel Matilde, take the blue bus from the airport (stand 5) to Santa Catalina, then the 1 or 12 yellow bus from there - it stops right outside the hotel. Or walk, it's very close. Boats to the other Canary Islands leave from the port - turn left out of the hotel then right into the port entrance. OK that's practically sold it to you, but the very best thing about Hotel Matilde is the staff; so a big thanks to Jeremiah and the kind and helpful team for making us so welcome on our first trip to the Canary Islands.

Staying another two weeks would have been great!

During my recent stay at a hotel, I was truly impressed by the exceptional level of service provided by the staff. They were attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and satisfaction throughout my entire stay. Their genuine warmth and professionalism made my experience truly unforgettable.

For some reason at first sight it didn't look like a hotel and I thought "Oh no". Perhaps it was the lobby which felt a bit cheaply done, but when I saw the room I was "Wow" - and during my stay when the staff were really attentive, I felt really welcome.

The staff were very friendly and efficient. The location is excellent, 5 mins from the beach, but also within the old town. If you are an explorer, hotel is right near a bus stop which routes all over the city and beyond. The Wi-Fi was strong and reliable, as was the water pressure. The beds were comfortable and the hotel very clean and well presented. Ask for a kettle if you want one. When I stayed it (late June) this hotel was a very good value choice.

The location was very good, just a 5 minute walk to the northern end of the Playa De Las Canteras beach. I traveled around the city using the Guagua buses and the bus stop was very convenient, just 20 seconds from the hotel. The roof terrace was a nice place to relax and overlooked the Castillo De La Luz, directly opposite. The staff were friendly and helpful and immediately rectified the oversight of there being no kettle in the room. The room was a good size and was very clean. The shower was excellent, powerful and hot. I didn't use the TV so I can't comment on that but the fridge and safe were fine.

Although it didn't bother me, I could see that some people might not like the view of the side street.

Everything about this place is great. All the staff are very helpful and always happy to help, they have great knowledge too. Their are more than enough shops / restaurants near by, they have a lovely mini breakfast buffet every morning. The bus stop outside will take you anywhere you need to go in Gran Canaria!! the beach is a 8 minute walk they offer beach towels too which is fantastic. would stay here again if I was to return, worth the money too.

it is not the properties fault, but the construction across the road and around the area caused difficulties for me and my partner to breath.

The room was fantastic, the bed really confortable and super big. We were able to sleep with your 6 months baby in a very safe way. The roof top was really nice to enjoy. The staff at the reception was really nice and helpful. The location was near the beach, park and supermarket.

We were not expecting to pay the car park, but at least it was in a safe place parking place (covered) and with a discount from the hotel. We choose for a room with a balcony and a view but in reality, the view was to the main road and a bit of the park (there is no oher way because the hotel is in one of busy roads) so it was not enjoyable to stay at the balcony but at least the upper floor had a terrace with a fantastic view and nicely decorated.

Very modern CLEAN hotel - where nearly everything looks new and nearly everything has been thought of! Wow, I wish I had stayed longer, slept like a log. Staff were super friendly and helpful. 10 points all round!

Parking was a problem... It's in a busy part of the city where the systems are all one-ways. There's also a building site just in front (not loud), but it makes navigation even more difficult. They sold me a card for a car park nearby but the entrance was hard to find... a bit like the 'magic roundabout' I went round it several times. 🤷‍♀️

Overall a great place to stay for a few days, conveniently located with comfortable and decently sized rooms. The pillows are a little flaky, but otherwise, the room was great. I particularly enjoyed the roof terrace which has plenty of sun throughout the day. The coffee place next door has oat latte and freshly squeezed orange juice at a good price so that was always my first stop in the morning.

The Wifi connection the hotel uses has a poor security rating. My PC sent me a notification recommending not to connect to it as any information sent on it would be visible to others.

The property has good location. There is a bus stop in front for both direction (come&go) for many lines. The service was exceptionall. Everybody was taking care of us. The breakfast was tasty and with many choices. The room was clean and confortable. Matresses were confortable. Recomended!

Nothing particular. Outside is a busy street, you need to have windows closed. Bed frames were making noise at every movement. Half hour breakfast time is short and you need to organize yourself to complet eating on time.

The breakfast was good, did even find some stuff to eat as vegan. I think this was the hotel with the nicest staff I ever been with. Its walking distance to the city beach and a lot of restaurants are close by. The room is really beautiful with everything we needed. If you want to stay in the city I definitely recommend this hotel!

Our problem was the parking situation and generally the stress with the car. We now think for a vacation it would be nicer to stay somewhere outside the city and drive to Las Palmas if needed. Although the hotel offers parking lots for 9 euros/day, we wanted to find our one parking spots as we were anyway going around with the car a lot to beaches in the north or even when I wanted to go to the Canary Museum in the center it is easiest by car and also there I payed 8 Euros for parking for 3 hours. Next time we would stay outside of the city for the night, or pay for the parking at the hotel, or find another hotel with free parking.
