AZZ Peñafiel Las Claras Hotel & Spa

This hotel used to be an old convent. The exterior looks medieval and some of the original walls have been preserved. Inside, it is now a modern, comfortable, spacious hotel. There is a grand courtyard with seating areas for relaxation and socializing. The hotel is very close to the wonderful Peñafiel castle (looks like something out of Robin Hood). Definitely worth a visit. It is also close to several areas of wineries. Highly recommend going to the Arzuaga winery. Take the tour which includes tasting of 3 wines. Have lunch at the winery. Order the roast lamb, which the region is famous for. It takes 3 hours to cook so reserve ahead of time. The room is large with a nice picture window. The bathroom is well equipped and spacious. You can pay to use the spa but you need to make reservations at least a day before. The breakfast buffet included fruits, cheeses, cold cuts, lots of bread, cereal, eggs cooked in different ways, nespresso coffee, a selection of teas and juices. It is worth the additional price if you want a large breakfast.

The staff were friendly but not very knowledgeable about the area. Strange given all the tourists they must get. TV is too small and half the channels don't work properly because of satellite interference

The hotel is in a beautiful old building with lovely furnishings to match. You felt like you entered into another world but kept all the comforts.

The bathroom. The shower was difficult to get into and the non slip mat that was provided was very slippery when wet. I actually fell whilst trying to get in but luckily I held on to the rail on the wall and broke my fall, otherwise I could have broken a leg or worse. My advice would be to immediately stop using those mats.

We chose this hotel for its location and availability of parking. The rooms were excellent, and so was breakfast. We really enjoyed having something to eat and drink in the outside courtyard on our second day. Also the inner courtyard is stunning.

The hotel bar and cafeteria were not open the day we arrived, so we had to eat in the hotel restaurant which did not open until 20.30. The bathrooms were spacious, but we felt the walk-in shower was very slippery and could be dangerous - we suggest providing non-slip mats or fitting a hand rail.

Perfectly located for anyone visiting the Ribera del Duero region along the Golden Mile. The hotel has its own restaurant which was very good and reasonable, but more importantly convenient as many of the local “asadores” are not open every day or close early in the afternoon. From the hotel you can enjoy beautiful views of the Castillo de Peñafiel. The pool looked very inviting but didn’t use it, same goes for the spa. Private parking is limited, you must reserve in advance.

The room was really spacious and they made up such a lovely little cot for our 18 month old! Breakfast was good and they had hot milk so we could make cereal for our toddler. 2 options to eat and lovely courtyard for relaxing or having a drink!

Getting out of the bath when showering is tricky with the slope of the bath and length of the glass

The location is perfect- ideal in fact. One can walk into town and still feel isolated from traffic noise and hubbub of the town. The Hotel is beautiful and a very calming environment with beautiful antiquities to view. The breakfast buffet very good but frantic. The spa feature is a nice addition but plan ahead if you wish to use it-

A couple recommendations: 1.Hire more staff for breakfast during peak travel times. The staff were so overloaded they could not remember what they heard from you. Also, the eggs ordered “ from upstairs “ were at times left to sit on a trolley cart where they cooled off- at which point the staff members were forced to reheat in microwave. 2. Time to deep clean bathroom shower stalls and spa glass surroundings. A bit of mildew taking on momentum and built up calcium deposits thickening on glass. Feels a bit unclean.

Historical Building like a "parador" with renovated infrastructure and parking facilities within. Quiet charming rooms. Very nice covered patio as common living room. Nice place to explore the vineyards around

the bath cabinet floor was very slipery. Hotel could provide some floor straps or rubber mate. I almost felt while having my morning shower

The property is in a beautiful old convent and very well placed in the centre of town. All facilities were very well provided and the views of the castle are great.

The walls of the property are a little thin. We could here the guy in the next room on his phone from 7.00hrs for more than an hour. Not very relaxing

Nice room well ventilated plus air condition. Breakfast as always first class. Location is ideal for visiting the local Bodegas.

I found the shower/bath difficult to access, the shower screen is fixed in position which leaves a narrow entrance, plus you could bang your head on the towel rail getting in and out. Anybody overweight would have a serious problem. Room 118, they might all be different.

The general peacefulness, beautiful main sitting area and delightful outside pool were great. As were the staff on reception and the 2 people looking after catering. They worked very hard and were friendly and helpful. The location for us was conveniently situated near some interesting local wineries.

Very disappointed that the hotel could not provide food (not even coffee or a snack) outside of breakfast and evening meal (at 8.30). It made things a little difficult as the restaurants in the town were also closed or only served food at the weekends.
