R Degrees

The stay at R Degrees, is one in a lifetime! We have had an unforgettable stay, and the staff really do everything to make the stay a perfect holiday! Clean room, clean swimming pool, always pool towels fresh and clean. Private beautiful sandy beach, kind of sheltered so we was swimming alot in the sea also. Very good breakfast and dinner. The perfect staff! The perfect place to relax.

We liked everything!

Beautiful small place with family atmosphere. It is right on very long beach where you can spend time walking or relaxing. Also 2 min ealk is supermarket and 10 min walk is a city (and wine shops :-)). Employees including cook are friendly and nothing is a problem.

The room was fantastic with a beautiful garden and ocean view. The location is great, with a quiet beach, far from all the turisty places. The pool is great and well maintained, so is the garden. As there are only 12 rooms the athmosphere is relaxing. In contrary to previous reviews, WiFi worked very well.

There is much more to ask for when it comes to the kitchen. We stayed for many days, and the dinner options was almost the same every evening, with only slight variation. It is a pity that only ”western” food of average quality is offered, it would have been great with Sri Lankan food among the dinner alternatives. The breakfast could also have been better… The staff varied, some were attentive, while others were not.

The staff were excellent attentive and went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed , the hotel was very clean at all times , and if you want to relax with a beautiful view of the Indian ocean with excellent sea food and the friendliest people r degrees is definitely the place . We spent two weeks at r degrees and was a brilliant base to go explore sri lanka, the management organised a scooter for me to get down to galle area in the morning to get a dawn surf and even extended breakfast so I could get back and still have some. They organise some brilliant excursions to the safari's, lion rock ,swimming with whale sharks , trips to the elephant sanctuary, and all at very reasonable prices. I highly recommend r degrees if you want to relax and Enjoy the beautiful beach where you can sometimes see sea turtles swimming past and if your up early enough you can watch the tradition fishing boats come ashore through pounding surf. This was a surprisingly good stay! As a small boutique hotel the staff were warm, attentive and welcoming. Check in was super easy and we were in our room within minutes. The room was newly furnishes with modern décor, large with good facilities. The large sliding doors opened onto a patio with a table and chairs and then walk out with access to the pool and beach areas. The pool was pleasant, the access to the beach is great with a private grassed area which you can relax on and then wonder on the public beach at your leisure. The beach was not at all busy and actually quite nice, although the sea was a little rough for leisurely swimming. The kitchen staff were accommodating, the food was excellent.

As much as the food was excellent my advice would be to stick with the local cuisine options as these were far superior to international dishes.

We travelled as a family of 12 and stayed at this hotel over Christmas and new year. What a wonderful experience. All rooms are very spacious and exceptionally clean with each room having a sea view. Fantastic. Pool & garden area just beautiful. Beach front which was amazing with plenty of sunbeds and lovely towels for everyone at any time of day. The best thing of all, was the staff. Just wow. They could not do enough for all of us to make our stay extra special. Whatever we asked for they did their best to make sure everything was in place. Even the chefs asked daily if there was anything we would like them to cook for us for our evening meal. The lady in the spa was just so lovely and the treatments were great. The whole experience was amazing. Thank you to each and everyone of you for making our family holiday so wonderful.

The hotel is clean, fresh and inviting, it has amazing views onto the beach, comfortable rooms and the staff are very attentive. Laksiri was a wonderful member of staff, who kept the balance perfect, of being helpful but not too over keen to please.

For us it was a bit too off the beaten track, although the food was good, it would have been nice to be able to have something different and there was nowhere else to go. Staff are lovely but can be a bit too attentive.

This was an amazing sanctuary for me at the end of the active days I was there. You can hear the sound of the waves crashing at night which was the perfect white nose to put me to sleep :) There was this one time when I could not get hold of anyone via the landline, however, the staff was super friendly and very responsive once you get hold of them. The manager was very accommodating and everybody was attentive with a big smile. The hotel is within walking distance of many local stores (restaurants and pharmacies) and also close to the bus and train stations.

I would suggest including an English and American breakfast as the outdoor breakfast seating area is a great start for the day. It would also be good to keep someone in the tanning area (below the pool) to attend to guests' requests (beverages and snacks.. etc).

The room was enormous, probably the largest in any hotel I've stayed in. Spa treatment was excellent. Staff was extremely helpful and proactive. Aircon worked very well. Friendly, intimate feel to the place. The management and staff tried to meet all our requests sincerely. Food was well presented and did not cause any stomach issues. The masseuse at the spa was excellent, though the room itself could be better. All Covid protocols are being followed.

There was a problem with some termite infestation in our suite # 103. Management has promised to look into it. Room cleaning could have been better. Breakfast was the same every day. We were not even told that we could get a pre-ordered Sri Lankan breakfast. Other dishes, though well presented, were quite overcooked -- especially, the meats and fish. No eating places within walking distance. Tuk tuk rides were comparatively very expensive. Though the rooms are huge, the common areas, like poolside and garden are quite small and would get very crowded if the hotel was full.

Lovely hotel in a quiet area, away from the more touristy Hikkaduwa and Bentota. But still within walking distance of a small town and beach bar. The hotel manager was very thoughtful and offered a room upgrade free of charge, as the hotel was a little quiet. Very kind gesture. The room and hotel grounds were clean and actively being worked on to be improved. The hotel was a little tired in places, but this is likely due to the covid situation. Not an issue at all. For the most part, the food was delicious and came in large portions. The Sri Lankan cuisine was the best, attempts at Western dishes were still nice, but just not as good as local food! We would appreciate more choice in our food, but understand due to covid this was difficult Alcohol is not served at the hotel, which was a little annoying, but can be purchased a 10 minute walk away. Overall, this is a good value and peaceful place to stay for a few days. If you're after a quiet place to read a book or swim this is great. If you're after nightlife and restaurants I would suggest Hikkaduwa.

Sri Lankan food was delicious, western dishes need some work (or remove them from menu, we love Sri Lankan food!) The gym was tired and equipment very limited. I would remove it or improve it for the sake of setting incorrect expectations with guests. Staff should be more confident in asking whether guests would like additional drinks, snacks or any other assistance during their stay. It would improve guests' experience and make the hotel more money. Water was not included in the full board we had, a little disappointing.
