Mackellar Motel

The team kept me updated throughout the lead up of our stay, answered questions, even though they may have been silly, due to previous experiences with other Hotels and Motels... Upon Arrival, I had dropped my kids to spend time with Family before big Birthday Celebrations, Steve greeted me with a Smile and made sure to double check I was staying with the kids. The room was clean and smelt fresh, not musty which is often experienced in motels. The beds were big enough that my teen has now asked me for his own Queen Bed. We were offered milk for tea and coffee upon arrival, I loved being able to access Netflix, without needing to sign in, but knowing I could access other streaming services using my own account, was also phenomenal. The rooms were soundproof. Once that door was closed, you hardly heard anything from neighbours or outside noise.

For me personally, I found the beds a bit too firm for my liking, kids thought they were one of the best beds they'd slept on in a motel.

It may have been my own misunderstanding regarding breakfast as I assumed it included a hot menu but that was on me! The breakfast provided was pleasant enough but if you require something with a little more substance, there is a delicious hot menu available charged easily back to the room, no fuss.

I didn't really have anything we didn't like. Staff were super friendly and polite, the rooms were clean and tidy and value for money was much better than the other place we stayed in Gunnedah previously.

Upon entering the motel, I was met with Jim, the owner. Right away I felt welcome. He was friendly and polite. He was also very understanding when our children managed to lock themselves out of their room that evening and came to help us get back in! The family suite was actually two large rooms divided by a door, and my older kids loved having their own space. It also meant that there were two bathrooms, two kitchens, and some privacy! Very handy for a large family. The rooms and bathrooms were spacious, with everything you need. I appreciated that there was a dining table in the room. Everything was also very clean, well-maintained, and quite modern. The location was fabulous, just a short walk to pubs, cafes, shops, parks etc. We really appreciated the included continental breakfast. The dining room was lovely. Oh and plenty of air conditioning in every room, great for those of us not accustomed to the country heat!

The only thing my kids would have loved was a pool on site however we understand that’s not possible, and there is a lovely local swimming pool nearby!

Absolutely loved the accommodation - the room was fantastic and the fact we could have our pets in the room made my stay relaxed and without stress

Request for payment either upfront or on checkout - received a phone call the day before checkout asking for funds on my credit card to take payment which wasn’t mentioned at check in

breakfast was terrible. we ordered hot breakfast and waited 45min and bacon was forgotten. the friends we were with waited even longer and one of their meals had been forgotten. should have just had the continental breakfast which was included in the price of the stay. disappointed to still be charged the almost $50 for a meal I didn’t even eat.

Some sort of dirt or salt came out of the spa bath Jets Looks like calcium but Still enjoyed it :)

Room was ready early. The owners were SO lovely. Welcoming, friendly, helped with the little details and even gave heads up on where to find good coffee - in-house barista made!!! Such genuine people

The room didn’t have a usb charging port. Even though I had cables there was just a little short on phone and device charging abilities.

Everything was neat and tidy the reception was warm and welcoming! Check out time was ideal 10am, the beds were super warm and comfy the heating worked well, nothing worse than going somewhere out of your comfort zone and coming into a cold motel - this wasn’t the case for us as it was quiet warm and cosy and didn’t take long to heat up at all Would definitely recommend

Everything was excellent at this property, from the service provided to the Room we stayed in. All the staff are very friendly and accommodating to our needs. The Room was very clean, the bed was very comfortable and we were able to get a good nights sleep . I highly recommend this property to all travelers.

It was the first time I'd stayed at the motel - the hosts Steve and Bridgette were fantastic. Breakfast was great, rooms were spacious and I look forward to staying there again in the near future.

Everything met my needs - no negative comments.
