James Vignoble Hôtel, Eguisheim

Beautiful location and great spa! The room was spacious. I stayed in a 5 star hotel in the same region immediately afterwards and the James Vignoble’s spa was far superior in terms of comfort and luxury. The sauna is in a large wine barrel overlooking the vineyards. The staff were charming and helpful.

The breakfast was truly disappointing and a rip off at €20 per person. The reviews I read ahead of my stay said the same. I shouldn’t have given in to the sales pitch at the front desk. I come to France frequently and have never experienced such poor quality and sparse selection. I ever had to track down my own juice glasses and silverware.

The hotel has, I believe, undergone renovations over the years. We stayed in one of the older bedrooms - however it was a nice sized room overlooking the countryside. The bed was comfortable but with very uncomfortable pillows! It was lovely to have air conditioning. There was a small fridge. Our bathroom had an over bath shower! The breakfast/bar area and access to the pool were accessible by a lift. Breakfast was good with the usual variety of food on offer. There is a small car park under the hotel controlled by a barrier so a code is needed for access. It is only a short walk via a gentle slope down to the village.

It was disappointing that the bar was only open from 2pm until 8pm! They ran out of beer and cremant rose when we stayed! Unfortunately there isn’t anywhere to sit in the evening if you are back from dinner early. There was a charge for the car park

The location: 5-min walk from the centre of town. The room: spacious and nicely decorated. AC was a plus too. Details: water in the minibar, towels and flip flops for the pool, complimentary toiletries. Dog friendly 🙂

Some things in the room weren't great: - drain in the bathroom was blocked - socket near the bed didn't work/is faulty - curtain was loose / off rail - one chair was incorrectly assembled (leg was turned in instead of out) so it couldn't be used comfortably (Granted we forgot to share this information at check out)

We loved the spacious and modern vineyard suite and the pool area! Didn't choose the breakfast buffet because you can easily find better and more authentic breakfast in local cafés for a lot less than 20€/person - however bear in mind that a lot of places in Eguisheim are closed during the off-season so you might need to drive to Colmar for this. Value for money is great during the winter months in this hotel though. Very quiet and cosy, with a lovely view and great amenities.

There was conflicting information on the opening hours of the pool/sauna as well as the price for the spa area and parking given by the staff, on the website, on Booking.com and in the info brochure in the room. We weren't quite sure about a couple of things but it worked out fine in the end - we payed 8€/day for underground parking and nothing for the pool area. Not all staff spoke English but that wasn't a problem for us.

The swimming pool is great! I loved it. Perfect temperature, the water was great, not overchlorinated but really soft. A clock on the wall would help to not stay too long and a handrail at the pool (I think this is something they really should consider!) - would improve the pool but this was really such a relaxing area - I could have stayed the whole day (yeah...clock....). The breakfast had all you needed and was good. Close to the centre of Eguisheim, which is very pretty.

It was a bit dissapointing that in the family suite the second room hadn't even had a closet and a lamp on the bed. I get that it is supposed to be only a room for sleeping - despite the coffee maker was in this room. But it really had only the bed, a TV and the coffee maker, not even a lamp at the bed for reading. For guests like us - two friends sharing the suite - it was a bit of a let down. Also the mattresses were very, very hard. If you want to stay there, don't hesitate to ask for a topper. I've been told on check-out that they could have provided one when I remarked about this. Maybe they should offer this when you check-in.

Did not have breakfast - walked into town for something local. Would have enjoyed a swim at either the out door or in door pool but was to busy sampling and purchasing Alsace wines! Room was well appointed, spacious and bright. The fridge was very welcome. A close walk to the centre of town and plenty of restaurants.

On check out the receptionist did not speak English (all the others did) and had charged additional items to the bill. Eventually got it all sorted out satisfactorily - 2 bills later!

The property is set in a lovely village with good facilities, restaurants, bakery, wine tours etc. our two room apartment was clean and well equipped and overlooked the pool. The outdoor pool was beautiful and not your usual chlorine pool either, it didn’t smell and neither did you. The air conditioning was a joy as we visited during a heat wave. All communal areas were clean and very well presented A lovely small hotel

The staff were good but felt for a four star hotel could have been better. Our two room apartment was set up that the twin room had direct access to the balcony and we asked if the bed set up could be swapped so that the parents could have the better room with the balcony. They said they would check and never came back. We swapped it ourselves. The mini fridge in our room was not very cold internally we asked for someone to take a look, no one did. Also check your bill, ours had 4 days of breakfasts, and a room supplement both totaling €360, ouch! Which shouldn’t have been charged for.

Quiet location, an easy walk to the village. Comfortable, clean room. Good breakfast, friendly staff. Room opening onto the vineyard was nice.

Terrace wasn't very clean and little privacy between neighbouring terraces. Only plastic wine glasses provided at the bar and to use in the room - apparently due to having a pool but glasses were available for breakfast (in the same bar) and glass tumblers already in the room. A minor detail but disappointing for a hotel with a vineyard and selling its own wine.

Very comfy property with lots of facilities. The swimming pool was clean, with beautiful views across Eguisheim one way and the surrounding mountains the other side. Location is perfect, with a short journey into the town with lots of restaurants. The staff here were wonderfully professional and couldn’t do more to help out. Pay for the breakfast for at least one of your days stay as it is exceptional. A credit to their business was Pierre, who I think was new to the business that week, but he made us want to come back next year with his knowledge of the area and his helpfulness in finding us places to visit.

Finding someone to serve drinks at the bar was a chore at any point in the day - especially when you just need some water whilst being sat by the pool on a hot day. Some evenings from 8pm onwards there was only one person working.

Amazing and very welcoming staff, great location just few hundreds meters away from old town and right in the middle of vineyards, well designed outdoor pool and area around, well designed breakfast room and well equipped rooms. Definitely would underline good air-conditioning & temperature in the room. Private underground parking for reasonable price just another good offer
