Loft - HI Hostel

The location is fantastic! Everything is within walking distance. If you are planning to enjoy just the city, you can not beat this location. I found Icelandic culture warm and welcoming but it is an acquired taste. People do not smile and greet like the US but they indeed have the best intentions and are always willing to help you. Please be patient with the staff at the hostel as they go above and beyond to help! Most people at this hostel were younger and party lovers. I also met other amazing solo travelers.

Location is a double-edged sword :) If you are planning on getting a good sleep on Friday or Saturday night - DO NOT stay in this hostel those two nights. This is in the middle of a party town and you will not get a good sleep. Book the hostels that are closer to the big church and they are peaceful. The hostel can improve their cleanliness routine a bit more.

Nice place, friendly service and clean rooms and comfortable beds. Great location! Rooms were like you could expect based on the pictures (I stayed in a 6-bed female dorm).

The music coming from upstairs (4th floor) was really loud, it was like sleeping next to a night club. My room was at 2nd floor, I can't imagine how loud the music must have been on the 3rd floor.

-location was perfect. Easy to get to from the bus stops off of main street Laekjargata in the city center. -clean hostel, bathroom tile needs a deep scrub, but the facilities are clean -comfortable, warm beds -staff very helpful/friendly and fellow travelers were super engaging -permitted earlier checkin once room was cleaned -separate toilet and shower -several restaurants and bus stops close by

-breakfast wasn't included in price. -washable sofa and chair covers would keep furniture more clean and stain-free. -everything else was good to go!

The hostel has a great vibe, takes care of their guests and has the facilities to match. Beds were very comfortable, dorm rooms had ample space to move around and store your things. The location is super central, there's a supermarket close by and plenty of cafes and restaurants.

On Friday nights you can hear the local club popping off until 3am. It is quite loud so bring good quality ear plugs. My basic ones didn't do the job. I was there for 5 nights and only had a problem on the night the music was playing, otherwise I slept well. Any form of soundproofing on those windows will be so helpful!

The lounge with all the books and board game options, the kitchen, the central location. Bus stop 6 is actually closer than bus stop 3 for pickup/drop-off. Most of the staff are friendly and they organise fun events for hostellers. The bed was cosy and even though I visited in winter I felt the blanket was too warm because the hostel's inside temperature was already soothing warm. I wish I had planned a more relaxed trip so that I could have explored their events, books, and board game collections. The location is fantastic (at least during the weekdays, which is when I was visiting, I did not have the issue with loud noises). No hassle of carrying a key or keycard.

It's not so much that I didn't like as it is just a small suggestion for future if and when the hostel is revamping... If it were possible to add curtains to every bunk bed (I have stayed in some hostels with such a setup) then people would get a bit more of privacy PLUS if one roommate has their bed side light on the others are not disturbed by it.

Great location - very close to the Hallgrimskirkya and Rainbow street. Very easy to get to other pick-up locations, e.g. Bus Stop 12, by taking the street right in front of the hostel. Great value for money and hygiene. Very straightforward and pragmatic check-in/out system - no need to find a receptionist, which is suitable if you arrive late. There is a bar on the top floor and it can be useful premises to meet people. I would definitely choose this hostel again if I were to return to Reykjavik.

There is a bar opposite the hostel and people party and shout outside until late, but that personally didn't affect me. After all, the hostel is in central Reykjavik!

I stayed for a Saturday night with my 5 year old daughter in one of the bunk bed rooms. Location is great. There are no keys so all you actually need is a code to get in but we did head up to the bar to check in (not necessary) so at least got to see it. The room has everything we needed. We sleep in a replica bed at home and it’s a fun arrangement for kids. It was also not at all noisy which I was expecting. You are supposed to strip your bed before leaving but we didn’t as we were in a huge rush. Impressive recycling. It was functional for us and everything worked a treat. Location is excellent. It’s basic accommodation and a good price so nothing not to like.

Loft makes it so easy to check in, as they email you your room and pass code for the doors before you even arrive! No need to worry about keys. The staff were all super welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere at loft is so chilled and cosy, I felt comfortable striking up conversations with other travellers in the lounge/bar area. I especially liked that the beds were super comfy, with their own plug outlet, and also each room had its own ensuite shower and toilet, rather than sharing one per floor. Would stay here again every time. Location is brilliant, right in the middle of the centre surrounded by shops, restaurants, bars etc.

There was nothing at all I didnt like.

Very central location, check in was really easy, every member of staff I interacted with were really friendly, especially the guy working the bar my last 2 nights. Stayed in the 6 bed female only dorm which was full but still plenty of space, room was clean and had a private bathroom. The shared kitchen space was fully stocked with leftover food and had plenty of facilities. The bar is lovely especially during the festive period and the outside deck area was my absolute favourite with a view of Hallgrimskirjia.

Only downside was the room was on the main street so was quite loud at nightime with people outside shouting.

The central location was excellent, provided easy access to the key sites. The hostel itself was clean, including the rooms. The kitchen was well equipped (microwave, two fridges, stove). Bed and linens were good (you do have to put the linens on yourself and take them off and put them in a basket FYI)

As some others have said, the hostel is located next to a night club so if you are staying particularly on a Friday or Saturday night, prepare to not have a noise-free evening. We could hear the music in our room and even with the window closed you also could hear the drunk hooligans outside yelling, etc. so that definitely affected sleep quality. There's not much the hostel can do here but they do provide free ear plugs which was very nice of them (make sure to grab them if you are staying over the weekend, they are by the check-in counter!)
