The Green Hotel

This hotel is in a beautiful old building set in extensive and pretty gardens. There is a very good restaurant - delicious local food - as well as a coffee shop with home made cakes and biscuits, and in addition there are large communal areas on the ground floor where guests can sit, with fine traditional furnishings.

The rooms are of mixed quality: we stayed in a large and beautiful room in the main old building, but were originally booked into a room in the more recent annexe which would have been less comfortable. The electrics and plumbing need modernising. Street noise can be a problem, though the garden is a great compensation.

1. This is a heritage property that was previously a Palace. I read that a popular Indian TV serial on Tipu Sultan was shot here. It's grand and well maintained. We were a family of four people and stayed in the 'Princess' Room. It was very spacious. Well ventilated. The breeze from large windows blew all evening. Washroom was well ventilated and clean. The entire floor is just straight out of a movie. 2. The staff was very kind, professional and polite. Mr. Syed, Charan, Manju and Prashant were proactive and helpful. Charan specially made sure that we got the best room and provided everything on our arrival. 3. Sprawling garden that houses a bar and a restaurant thats open till 10 pm. Sit, relax and enjoy the palace view.

Food quality can be improved.

The Green Hotel, recommended by a friend, not only lived up to expectations, it had more charm and warmth than I was expecting. From the first day, I felt at home and was impressed with the service. The food was excellent... and I've seen reviews mentioning the slowness of the service.. .I didn't experience it at all! In fact, I felt very well looked after. The people I particular felt helped me were Chandru, on front desk, Manju on front desk, Charan who was on staff in the afternoons... Nunngah.. Jagdish... oh... really, quite a few others whose names I may not know but whose smiles and kindness I most definitely felt.. Thank you!! I will be back.

One are that wasn't quite as it might have been was my proximity to noisy diners late at night. So, while the hotel can't control guests, I'd suggest that perhaps if there are late diners, they might be seated far away from the rooms, as their revelry (and great... for them!)... tends to be noisy and disturbs the peace. Somewhat. Other than that... lovely gardens, beautifully maintained... all up. Very good

Great rooms with good beds. The restaurant food is amazing. Overall the hotel is beautiful and open. This is my second time I have stayed at the hotel. You will not have AC in the room, which works great for person like me, maybe not for others. The rooms remains cool coz of guess the old style architecture and all the greenery around.

The service is great in all departments, but the restaurant kitchen is slow. (but then its Mysore, so expect a relaxed life there :-) )

-Loved being there during Dasara -ideal location ,slightly away from city centre but close to restopubs like Bopy's , Le Ruchi Prince, etc. -Location & the beautiful white heritage building set amidst a well landscaped/maintained garden are the plus points -old world charm , no airconditioning, generator, only good old fans & the fact that windows can be kept open !! All good for a great carbon footprint ! - the craft store selling Pattachitra/Palm Leaf paintings was a great discovery - lovely artworks at reasonable prices -Sayema could give good info about how they were helping revive these dying arts ..... - good bakery with some great stuff ! -food on the lawns in the evenings ....

-Staff are very easygoing & laid back, need younger/properly trained staff -Breakfast menu & preparation need improvement , took 20mins to get omelette & the coffee was laid down with a thud ! -bathroom fittings are dated & hardly working , shower curtain needed badly, water is very hard /untreated(?) - ruined my hair & was worried .

The property is beautiful. Given its a heritage property, so it was a totally different experience with open lawns & restaurant

Strangely they do not have a concept of Blankets at all. When I requested, the reception guy said they will deliver in the room. Then they all went to sleep. In the dark at around 12.15 in the night I went to the reception again, there was no one there, some cleaning staff etc were sleeping on the floor, and they didn't understand English or Hindi. Somehow after hearing our sound of talking some guy came who took me to the store room to show me they don't keep blankets. I picked up some extra bedsheets to make up for the lack of blanket, along with a staff-blanket that was kept hidden somewhere in a rack.

I really liked the calm atmosphere and the beautiful grounds. The man guarding the gate was extremely helpful in recommending a trustworthy auto rickshaw driver, which was important to me as a solo female traveler. I found the location to be very convenient for my purposes and grocery stores are within walking distance if needed to supply any extra sundries. There is no AC (though I was perfectly comfortable with a fan in May temps), and I would describe the room as modest. I liked how the room was decorated with lively and colorful accents that made it a more festive experience. Finally, I appreciated the mission of sustainability.

As other reviews have mentioned, I also found the service to be slow and lacking at times. The staff did not always follow up with me when they said they would, and I had to ask multiple times for service. However the front desk was always attentive once I went in person.

Location is ideal. The palace is beautiful. The restaurant ambience is great. The Food can be better. Malgudi cafe inside the hotel offers some excellent coffee and cakes. Rooms are nice!

Bathroom lacks ventilation and also has smell emanating from the drains. The drain exhaust needs to be checked and managed. Need better breakfast options when we pay a premium.

The Location was center of Mysore. Its a heritage property, and feels very proud and happy to stay. The staff at front desk are very friendly and helpful. The property has lot of huge tree, plans and flowers - the birds cheering and the wide cloud view give a very peaceful feeling. ,The snacks and coffee at Coffee shop was excellent.

The service at the restaurant was very very slow. And the choice of food for breakfast is not worth the money charged. Need more active and customer oriented staff at the dinning

A great location set in lovely gardens on the edge of the city, 10 mins from the centre via rickshaw. The staff were friendly and accommodating—the room was clean, minimal but charming. There is no air con in the rooms—they are clear about this when booking but it's worth noting.

Air con would have been great but it's part of the hotel's ethos to operate sustainably. The rooms are very minimal and there is no pool, which would have been a nice option but the gardens make a lovely space to relax instead.
