Torre Don Virgilio Country Hotel

This is not a typical review, this is a story. A Sicilian story that started the moment I saw a Booking ad with a picture of Torre don Virigilio. That moment in November 2022 I said to myself I have to see where this place is, if there's any chance I will visit it someday. And there I was, with no summer vacation plans for 2023, instantly researching and tailoring a Sicilian tour (island that I had no intention to visit in the near future otherwise) just to reach this destination. Nine months later, when we stepped into the castel's garden, it felt like everything is possible. Needless to say it exceeded my expectations, from the type of room we received, to the fine dining we experienced in such a lovely and unforgetable scenery.

Beautiful facility, spacious room, incredible breakfast buffet, friendly staff, close to Modica

Lovely location, lots of interesting places to visit nearby. The pool area is very beautiful, relaxing and so quiet. Some days we were sat there by ourselves. Our room was huge with lovely views. Breakfast is excellent.

It is worth noting that the restaurant is incredibly popular and during every evening was packed out with diners and parties. It changes dramatically from being so peaceful throughout the day to being incredibly busy and noisy during the evening until about midnight. Therefore parking can be tricky when you get back late. Dinner is good but we found better options nearby.

A fine location - a little remote but that didn't matter. We used the hotel as a base for visits to locations in the area. Excellent breakfast included in the room rate served by a charming lady who spoke good English. We dined in the restaurant each night and were surprised by the very generous portions. Our suite was well positioned overlooking the pool and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was well appointed but we found the living area a little spartan.

Additional shade over the outdoor table area would have been useful.

The garden and the pool is amazing. Beautiful garden with lot of space to relax in the sunbeds. Pool is quite big, but shallow approx 1,10m Pool bar is open every day. Very quiet location on the countryside. There is a restaurant with excellent food and wine and so you don't have to leave the location at all. Brekkie is a little bit above Italian standard and you won't miss anything. Overall the calm atmosphere with the pool is wonderful and gave us a relaxing stay with countryside feeling

The room was a little bit small, the bathroom quite big. Furniture is basic and not new anymore.

Very charming, quiet and peaceful stay. Great location to visit a lot of attractions nearby. Restaurant onsite which was very convenient, affordable and good quality, plenty of options. Same for breakfast. The outdoors areas were lovely, truly enjoyed relaxing by the pool and there was plenty of shade. Room was very spacious however not much of natural light in our case, understandable for the building and climate but perhaps not obvious to all when booking. Special mention to the boys serving the pool area as they were always available, nice and polite. Loved the fact that they accommodate dogs in the property! Also worth mentioning Invito, a restaurant a few minutes away which was amazing.

I feel that there is a language barrier with most of the staff. Just 2 days before the end of my stay I found out there was a massage/facial service available and I only did through other guests. I wish the staff would have been more helpful or attentive when it comes to selling their own services, we were never told about any additional services or even about their own restaurant (we knew via reviews). It would also be nice to have been given suggestions of what to see and do around. The restaurant staff were proactive and fast but again, communication can be tricky at times. Nonetheless, it didn’t massively impact our stay.

Perfect! Welcoming hosts, nicely maintained and equipped facilities. We got the very spacious domus room with 3sided views of the beautiful surrounding fields. Oh,and the morning sun and the silence! And some healthy biodinamic smell in surroundings! Really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely return!

Unusually small bathtub (actually a cabin) for such a spacious room and bathroom.Silicone around the cabin doors and tubfloor should be removed (or just get cleaned better, it is quite moldy, kinda ruins the overall nice bathroom)

Lovely good size room, excellent housekeeping service, there is little light in the room due to the nature of the building and small windows but you can open the doors right up which lets good light in. Nice pool although in October was a bit too cold for me. Very good selection of food on offer at the buffet breakfast to suit all tastes including traditional Italian sweet stuff, to more continental cheeses, meats, fruits etc. Was a lovely peaceful location. You really need a car to stay here. Although there was a lovely bakery a mile down the road which we walked to a few times, and a bit further on a small well stocked supermarket. Staff respected your privacy but were happy to help answer any questions when you had them - great beach recommendations for example. Really nicely situated to reach all the Baroque towns - Modica only a 20 min drive with great array of cafes and restaurants.

The cushions on the sun loungers had seen better days but we were at the end of the main season. Food in the restaurant wasn't great for us as vegetarians, but that is generally the case in Italy.

It is a very nice masseria with good food, service, facilities. We particularly like the location that you have to drive in countryside roadways, enjoy the real Sicilian touch. The scenery is beautiful and peaceful that you can relax near the pool.

The breakfast is good, but everyday it’s the same, for customers who stay more than two nights will get bored of the breakfast. Also the room is a little bit small, we would like to book a bigger one next time.

Room was beautiful and large( and smelt amazing) staff were really good , young receptionist was very proffesional and helpful and waiting staff at restaurant were smiley and polite . Loved the food at the restaurant (especially the pistachio pesto pasta ) and the courtyard where the restaurant and breakfast is in is beautiful. Speaking of breakfast it is lovely and large though they always run out of Parma ham so get downstairs early and beat the vultures. The pool area is nice though not deep but lovely to lounge around. You need a car but very accessible to noto, Ragusa , modica etc . Lovely restaurant nearby called invito I can't recommend enough. The building itself is lovely and old and yeh I can't say enough good about it perfect for a half week on the noto valley area and yeh just go if there's anything I've missed off this review then just assume it's great because it will be.

Literally nothing it's perfect ( For people who hate noise maybe the late events in the courtyard may bug you a tad but it's normally all over by 11-12 but I found it fine but worth noting if you are expecting silence it defo has a bustle at night)
