Onyado Nono Matsumoto Natural Hot Spring

Great location, an easy walk from the train station, even with luggage. The hotel is very clean, but beware you do have to remove your shoes at the entrance, leave them in a locker, and walk to your room in your socks. Our room was small, but workable and very clean. The bathroom and shower were very small, but the shower pressure was fantastic, as we found in most Japan hotels. They know how to do showers right! The bed was comfortable. We walked all over Matsumoto from the hotel. It was about a 20-minute walk to Matsumoto Castle, good exercise after a long train ride. We were able to walk everywhere we went, including the miso factory for a tour and to a fantastic Neapolitan pizza restaurant for dinner, Pizza Verde Matsumoto. Onyado Nono is a great option for our one-night stay in Matsumoto. Easy walk back to the train station early the next morning.

The Japanese breakfast buffet was simply exceptional. Many traditional dishes were served, & good quality ingredients were used. If we return to Matsumoto again, we may book this hotel again only to savour its great & good Japanese breakfast spread. The other feature that we like is the onsen - balanced lighting, quality shampoo & bathing wash, & most importantly, a clean place to shower & onsen in peace.

While language may be a barrier, we felt unwelcome. The front desk staff were seriously cold & unfriendly, even at check-in & check-out transactions. Such unwelcome stance was especially felt whenever we & all other guests entered the front door, as they zoomed in with near yelling voices to tell us to remove our shoes. It happened every time we passed the front door for the two nights we stayed there. All guests were cooperative & understood the hotel policy that no outside shoes are allowed inside the hotel. The point is - do the front desk staff need to speak so sternly, so coldly, so belittling to the guests?

Super love this hotel - value for money, amazing breakfast, good onsen facilities, and most importantly for me, good pillow with neck support!!

There was one night when a drunk man tried to barge into my room. Thankfully, I had the door latch on and he wasn’t able to enter but that drunk man went on for good 15 mins. When I called the front desk to ask for help, because they didn’t quite understand english.. they took a while for them to understand and sent someone to check. So i wish they have front desk with better english proficiency so that they can help in emergency case. This incident was of cos no fault of the hotel (which is otherwise great), but for a female solo traveller like me, it was a pretty scary experience.

The location was great, so close to food, shops, train station. Great place to go if you want to travel to mountains, little towns like narai or kamicochi bridge. Hot spring was lovely, bed was comfy, views of the mountains from the room was great when they weren't hiding behind clouds. Brand new facility, drink station in the meals area most of the day, free ramen at night, most of the reception staff spoke a little bit of English, they offer Yamato transport to send your luggage to another place which is a very helpful service.

I was able to use the onsen but my partner wasn't because of his small tattoos. The onsen was beautiful but annoying that he couldn't use it even if he covered the tattooed area. Pillows weren't comfortable but I think they offered some at reception, I wouldn't know because I brought my own pillow anyway.

Exceptional stay, clean, well furnished, spacious and super comfy beds. Onsen is the key of this location. It is a must visit, both indoor and outdoors available, with complimentary drinks to take afterwards! Reception was attentive and helpful to assist with cleaning the luggage. Note that this hotel does not allow walking indoors with shoes and you will have to keep your shoes in the lockers, no trouble at all! Free ramen was also given at night for supper, which makes for a lovely meal right after our onsen visit. Breakfast spread has a huge variety of options. Location is convenient and easily accessible from the station. It was an incredible stay and we will be back for sure!

Oh wow, the hot springs onsen facilities on the top floor were incredible, restorative, and such a welcome retreat after a long day of climbing the stairs at Matsumoto Castle and walking along the merchant shops. Three different pools, very clean. Being my first onsen experience, I was in heaven. In addition, the breakfast buffet was the best we experienced after 17 days in Japan…. A plethora of delicious, well prepared entrees, traditional pickled vegetables, and even tempura fried as you waited. Location was blocks from art museum and Family Mart( where we picked up salads for dinner) is two blocks away. Train station is a ten minute walk.

Mix of a ryokan and a business hotel, but more of the latter (Dormy Inn chain member I guess, positioned higher). Very nice, polite staff. Shoes off at reception, suitcase wheels disinfected upon entry. Good size rooms, nice onsen w/sauna (water could be a bit hotter). Superb free laundry, just pay for the drier. Free cofee, plus other drinks ín the evening. Our room looked at the station rails, thus the otherwise openable window (asset!) makes the room a bit noisy. Alps view is stunning. 10mins from station entrance, abundant eateries, 20 mins from castle on foot. Good choice, if you can catch a good price (ours was advance payment)

Just an idea: a few hooks for towels in room/bathroom would be nice.

The facilities, amenities and the breakfast were superb.

Temperature control in the room. If the temperature outside is low the sensor will warm up the room and it was too hot during the night.

Had a very good two day stay. Rooms are clean, spacious and with good soundproofing. Very good facilities especially the onsen, surprised that they could even accommodate an "outdoor" bath. Small touches like welcome drink, ice cream, dessert pudding, yakult drink and morning coffee were most appreciated. Finally superb customer service from the front desk/reception. Left a package in the room and they helped to courier it to my hotel in narita which arrived the very next day.

For western tourists wanting to experience Japanese hospitality with Western levels of comfort (unlike Ryokan where there's typically no beds or private bathrooms) this hotel is exactly what you need and it's the best experience we could've hoped for in Matsumoto The hotel feels very Japanese. It has bamboo flooring (you take off your shoes at the entrance) both in hallways and rooms, it features a lush onsen, there is freely available ramen, there's a comic corner, etc The rooms on the other hand feature western beds and private bathrooms and (although small) were larger than what we were used to in Tokyo. The hotel and rooms are very clean and feel recently renovated. Staff is very welcoming and goes the extra mile.

Location is good from station (a 5 minute walk) but the castle is a bit farther away (although still within walking distance)
