A very good modern hotel. Very clean and well designed. Originally no meal option was given (probably due to Covid) but when we arrived it was possible to have a very good breakfast in the hotel next door. There was also a good bar / café in the courtyard between the two hotels, where drinks and small snacks could be purchased outside the regular Portuguese mealtimes and consumed in the courtyard. The staff was extremely helpful, going out of their way to get us a booking at the nearest (marvellous!) restaurant.

The boat trip organized by the hotel, although quite pleasant, was rather overpriced and disappointing: there was no guide to give a commentary and the captain spoke only Portuguese. As a result, the Portuguese couple spoke at length with him but the rest of us received no information at all. The hotel is located about 500 m downhill from the entrance to the old town, so going up to restaurants and the old town meant quite a steep climb; however, two eighty-year olds managed the climb, so for younger people this should be no problem - it would not deter us from staying here again.

Great location at the riverside, and nice heated (or warm) pool, the kids loved it. Great comfort and design for a 3 star hotel, with all the ammenities one needs. Very friendly staff, loved the snacks they served at the hotel lounge on a rainy night!

Unfortunatly the rooms are not sound proof, you can easily hear everything from adjacent rooms which made it difficult to rest at night and from 7 a.m. The pillows could use a renovation, and our room TV was very small.

Perfectly clean and comfortable room and bathroom which was perfect for an overnight stay in Mertola. The added bonus was the pool which came in handy when we arrived in the afternoon as it was really hot. Also interesting to see the archaeological excavations which are incorporated into the hotel and the detailed explications. Good location as situated within the town and in easy walking distance of everything.

Not much sound proofing between the walls unfortunately.

Hotel Museu seems to be the only hotel in the centre of Mertola with an official and independent rating. It's 3-star. It deserves it. The hotel is straightforward, modern, comfortable, air-conditioned and some rooms have a river view. Service is generally helpful but not always present. There is a small pool. This is a very good choice for a visit to an exceptionally interesting city where hospitality options are sparse.

Breakfast (only average) can be taken either in an adjoining building or outside. The latter space became oppressive in the hot weather we experienced. Internal lounge space is very limited. The pool is stark and lacks atmosphere. The interesting Roman remains in the basement museum would benefit from improved explanatory material.

Everything, the location, river view, close to the old part of town. Everything uphill Explore the town, the riverbeach, trail walking/running route. Great bar/cafe between this and the next hotel. Friendly staff specialy the young girl from Faro and the Dutch woman.

Nothing to complain about, if I ever make the very long bus ride again from Faro/Beja, I want my room back no 24

Staff were knowledgable about the town. The history of this remarkable town, which is basically a museum unto itself, is physically incorporated into the hotel building - excavated ancient building ruins are preserved in the basement for visitors to see. Rooms are well- furnished and clean, views of the Guadiana are impressive, including the partial view in one room for which the hotel does not claim a 'river view'.

No complaints

Loved the large room with balcony and sitting area. Very close to both river and the stairs up to the town. Also being on the site of a Roman archaeological dig was very cool

The walls were paper thin. You could hear people talking in the next room like they were standing next to you. And noises from the bathroom above us, let’s just hope it was running water

The suite was spacious and well furnished, lots of light but with heat proof windows and curtains, good aircon, lovely varanda with a beautiful view, great shower pressure and temperature, comfy sheets and duvets extremely clean and the rooms smells really nice when you go in. The staff is very helpful and friendly and arranged for a boat trip that was wonderful and a great value for money. The new bar outside is great and you can have drinks and light food (toasts, sandwiches etc) with a river view. The pool is lovely especially at the end of the day and has a hot and cold outdoor shower. It's more 4 than 3 stars but small in size which makes it peaceful. Great for cycling, canoeing and birdwatching.

The pillows, but I think they might be washing them in the machine which ruins them, on the other hand they are very clean.

We had a lovely view of the river. The room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. The hotel itself is very interesting with the heavy glass floor that allows people to view an old archeological site within the hotel. We also enjoyed the breakfast that was offered. Across the street from the hotel are steps that take you up to streets above where there are restaurants and shops. You can also walk from the hotel to the castle and view the archeological site with amazing panoramic views.

Location is perfect for unwinding and dangling the soul.

Don't go in July and August because the heat forces you to not go out after 1 pm until later in the evening. No fault of the hotel as all rooms are airconditioned, but rather the location in Portugal. I recommend March till end of June and September onwards.
