Lago Montargil & Villas

The breakfast was superb! A full English breakfast, a full Portuguese breakfast, pastries, waffles, fruit, cereals, tea (and teapots!), coffee, juices and espumante. Delicious. We ate in the hotel for dinner too, and although the portions weren't the largest, the quality was excellent. The variety of pools is really fun, and we did the free spa circuit which was super relaxing. The staff are wonderfully friendly, and we appreciated the bar and pool table for after dinner. The bed was very comfortable and the rooms nicely laid out. Would stay again!

The only funny thing is the layout - the architect clearly went on a design adventure. As other reviewers have said, you have to walk across the forecourt to reach one of the indoor pools, and the front desk gives out maps when you check in. And there are maps and stickers everywhere to guide you, because the layout is odd! However, it makes it kind of fun too :-P The billiards is a great service, but it feels a bit stingy to charge by the minute, and same feeling for the coffee machine in the lobby (just give free coffee, it's not a huge cost but makes a huge difference in the feel).

We stayed at one of the villas, with a private and wonderful infinity pool. The facilities are excellent, very well designed and thought out for a few days of tranquil rest. We especially valued the privacy awarded and the very competent staff, with a ready smile and consistently aiming to provide a five star experience. We also tried out the gym, that has free access with no non-sense policies, as well as the indoor pool that is actually 25m and also open to guests with no need for reservations. We enjoyed our villa immensely, the cleanliness and surrounding gardens, as well as the dedicated and included wi-fi service.

The structures and equipments have seen better days, and even though the conditition is still good enough to pass, one senses that there is clearly pressing need for maintenance and some modernisation efforts. The hotel management needs to make those investments. We also did not love the breakfast. We got some hard bread, badly cooked eggs and, frankly, it all lacked freshness. We wanted to try the restaurant for dinner, but after the breakfast experience, chose not to.

We had a wonderful stay in the hotel. Beautiful place in a very natural and quiet region. Amazing view to the lake. Different pools The room was beautifuly decorated and spacious. Great shower and Nespresso machine in the room. The employees were friendly and made an effort to speak en English

We were dissapointed about two things: -The breakfast did not have enough choice. It was rather a simple buffet which you would expect in a hotel with less stars. The focus was ok different bread and English breakfast compontents. A hotel like this should offer more -The long chairs were cheap made from plastic or metalic but highly uncomportable. The pools were so beautiful but unfurtanetly, there were no investments in the long chairs.

Reception staff on day of the arrival was great and all information was prepared adn ready as per our booking as well as all our special requests were made. Excellent breakfasts. Heated pool for kids was good. Its a pity that there were no other activities for kids. Bar restaurant was good and had a huge selections of meals, whilst the main restaurant was limited in its selection. Staff at both restuarants were great.

The spa, the pool, the room balcony, breakfast, the sound isolation was really good too.

The toilet didn't have anything else other than handwash gel and body lotion. The cups to put the toothbrush and toothpaste were paper cups that didn't even hold... It's a 5 star hotel you would expect a bit more quality and pampering. Also the bed, being twin and not having other option, was uncomfortable as there was a gap in the middle that caused back pain. The rooms need a bit more maintenance also... Bits of wall that came off, wardrobe doors that didn't work...

Great hotel in an amazing place - nice room, great view, and great spa facilities. Breakfast was good. The restaurant service is excellent - the waiters are brilliant and food is rather good too! We came for a few days and it was just enough time to explore the facilities, surroundings and relax!

The gym is not in a good state for a five star hotel - no mats (the simplest of the equipment) and the treadmill wasn't;t working either. We asked our friends who stayed in the hotel a few months before us and they said the treadmill wasn't working then either. The other issue was the billiards (pool). We had to pay to play which was rather strange for a 5-star hotel too.

Our stay was only two nights and we stayed in two nice rooms with a view of the pool. The rooms are very clean and spacious with nice bathrooms but no bathtub. The breakfast was very good, plenty of nice fruit, bread, and all other requirements. We had a very nice stay.

The only downside was the nautical club being closed and that area being almost abandoned as there was no staff to help with basic things, like umbrellas or towels. The pool areas can get very crowded although they have several pools.

I had already stayed at the hotel a few times but it was the first time we stayed at the Villas. I can say that it was a great experience, the Villa is comfortable although the rooms do not have the areas of the rooms in the Hotel, especially the second bedroom, the swimming pool has good dimensions and a beautiful view over the Montargil dam. Excellent breakfast as always, service, professionalism and friendliness of the staff, variety and quantity of food..all excellent

The rooms are very comfortable but just smaller than the hotel rooms, especially the second room with the 2 single beds.

I like the quality of the food from the restaurant and lobby bar and the breakfast had a good variety. The swimming pools are also quite pleasant and the rooms comfortable

Moving across and around the hotel is a mess and not practical for example from my room to the breakfast/restaurant we had to take 3 different lifts to go up 1/2 floors. Also some facilities such as the indoor pool looked abandoned and are poorly maintained

The staff was super welcoming and kind, the decor, the indoor pool, the breakfast variety, the control of people during the spa hours.

Some of the room furniture was damaged, the food was crazy expensive (like the cheese and ham sandwich on the menu), to go to the indoor pool you have to go through the reception and the main parking (outdoor), at the spa the whirlpool jets for your back are very weak, and you have to deliver back to the reception your spa towels instead of leaving them in the room, also the room was not well lit and there was only a simple glass door separating the toilet from the bedroom. Most of the things I believe that can be improved are regarding the facilities.
