IXUA Hotela

Fantastic location - close to the highway, but you feel like you are in the middle of unspoiled forests. It's worth the drive up a bit to have such spectacular views! The cozy little hotel where you feel at home. Great design and perfect cleanliness of the room and common areas. But the biggest asset of this place is the host, who runs the best restaurant in the area - he has a wonderful intuition for combining the best ingredients, gives excellent advice and serves the best wines not only in the Basque Country, but in all of Spain (we visited this place not for the first time and always take some bottles with us :-D).

you definitely need a car or a different mean of transport to reach the hotel as this is situated on top of a hill around 3-4 km from Eibar. The bathroom might need some refresh as the paint seems a bit old. the same with the doors that seems to touch the floor when you open them. 1h to reach either Bilbao or San Sebastian ...not ideal in case you are trying to "commute" to these places.

This beautiful hotel is set high in the mountains surrounding the town of Eibar in the Northern region of Spain. We arrived at this hotel as the last stop on a week’s tour of the region. The whole experience at IXUA Hotel was breathtaking. Roberto and his lovely family gave us a really warm welcome and went out of their way to ensure our stay was enjoyable. The rooms were clean and well equipped with argan oil products and they all had stunning views across the mountains. The restaurant food was simple and tasty. The monkfish cooked on the outdoor grill was the best we’d ever tasted! We really can’t express just how wonderful this hotel is. We miss Roberto and his family already and will return as soon as we can. He assures us that September is the best month to visit. Thank you Roberto!

We loved everything!

Roberto and his family at Ixua were beyond welcoming and accommodating. The room was exceptional as a family room. The kids bed was comfy and the cot was a genuine wooden crib rather than the standard travel cot. The bath was sleek and the toiletries were luxurious. A bottle of local wine and 2 glasses greeted us on arrival at the room and a view of Eibar nestled in rolling hills and mountains that was breath-taking. We had been told that Eibar was nothing special as we travelled along the Northern coast but it looked very pretty and ideal from our view. The terrace was buzzing with locals when we arrived (always a good sign) but quietened down in time for dinner with the kids. Staff gave generously of their time to walk us through the menu and the steaks were impressive. The playground was very natural and the kids loved it. It also had lots of picnic benches and there was a walk/ hike starting point just across the road.

A beautiful small hotel in the mountains not far from Bilbao. The owner and staff were all very friendly and helpful, and the food was great. The rooms are large, bright and clean, and the mattresses are thick and comfortable. Fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. There is a children’s playground on the site which is great to keep the kids entertained for a while. Wish I had been able to spend more than one night there.

This is a simple hotel, but the facilities exceeded our expectations, the surroundings are spectacular, the bar/restaurant was lively with a good ambience, the service was first class and we particularly enjoyed meeting and talking with the friendly proprietor. We ate at the hotel restaurant, which is essentially a grill, and the food was outstanding.

Beautiful hotel in the hills. Staff were extremely friendly. Our room was superb with amazing views - almost floor to ceiling windows. The location was great for walking or cycling if you like epic climbs. Breakfast was basic but enough and the evening meals were great.

Too far from any towns or villages for evening out.

We stayed for the last night of our motorcycle touring trip. The location was convenient for Bilbao ferry port but was still a great scenic spot. It was a pleasure to meet the owner who was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was very comfortable with a super restaurant and bar. It seemed like a popular spot but everyone was very friendly.

situated at the top of a mountain is has wonderful views. staff are super friendly and very happy to look after you. room was fresh and clean whilst being very comfortable. food was fresh and grilled steak off their open plancha was superb

No criticism. for the costs it’s exceptional.

Location is breathtaking, with awesome views. Perfect for mountain hikes. Little amount of rooms in familiar hotel, great comfort and excellent hotel personnel.

I would like to have more variety in the breakfast and maybe a gym, but having the possibility for going for a hike or with the bicycle, a gym is not that much needed.
