We stayed on the Isle of Bressay which is a 7 minute ferry trip across the Sound to Lerwick. It was a little different and for us, very pleasant staying in the country side and looking across to Lerwick. The breakfasts were fantastic, the staff friendly, the room we had was very comfortable, clean, and excellent facilities and a wonderful sea view to across to Lerwick

Nothing to do with the property, but omg, it was a shock to see a massive cruise ship anchored in the middle of the Sound when we woke up on our last day. I don’t know how the locals put up with it, as the locals seem divided as to whether or not it is worth anything to them but disruption. Apparently, there is not a lot of money spent in the shopping area from the Cruise Ships.

Accommodation was very comfortable and spacious,. The staff were friendly and helpful. We ate there on one night and the meal was superb, tasty and well presented. We needed to catch a ferry each time we wanted to go to the mainland but they ran frequently. Would definitely highly recommend.

Unfortunately as we arrived on Sunday and there was little open to have an evening meal. The restaurant was closed at this property on Sunday for dinner but they do offer a roast for lunch until 3pm.

James and Nelly were generous and flexible hosts. They run a tight ship with a small team of excellent and friendly support staff. Nothing was too much trouble when we were there, and they were particularly accommodating about my Mum's various mobility aids, finding places to keep wheelchairs and walkers handy. Rooms were spotlessly clean. Food was exceptional, especially Nelly's Sunday roast.

Nicely renovated with a very comfortable room with lovely views. Interesting to watch the cruise ships coming and going. There is a restaurant at the hotel serving a good choice of food. Easy to get across to Lerwick on the ferry.

The breakfast was limited - for cereal only a box of Cornflakes, no granola or muesli, no fresh fruit, no alternative milks (oat, soya etc) and just a standard cooked breakfast option. it was a shame because everything else about the hotel was very good.

Our room was furnished & decorated to an exceptionally high standard. The property is on the waterfront & the views from the garden across to Lerwick are beautiful. The bar area is friendly and welcoming & the dining area is cosy. There’s a residents’ lounge and, again, it is superbly furnished and very comfortable. The food is exceptional, delicious and sourced locally. Maryfield dining appeared to attract people from all over Shetland and it was easy to see why! Travelling to Lerwick from Maryfield is by a short ferry journey. Parking is at the rear of the hotel and the owners offer a very warm welcome. A superb hotel!

There was absolutely nothing to dislike.

We were made to feel very welcome throughout our stay and the room (deluxe double with sea view) was excellent with a delightful view to the ferry and Bressay Sound. Amenities in the room were fine and there was a good sized bathroom and shower. Even though the restaurant was closed on Monday on our arrival, residents were offered a straightforward meal and that was fine. The other two meals in the restaurant were fabulous, especially the seafood platter - order 24 hours in advance. The food was certainly delightfully fresh. Breakfasts were good too.

There wasn't much to dislike at all. The housekeeping of the room was a little variable. For example, we started with 2 face flannels, were down to one on the second day then none by third. But really that doesn't detract from a place I would recommend highly for comfort, welcome and excellent food.

Loved being out of Lerwick across on the ferry which was very convenient, regular and the cost was reasonable as long as you don't bring the car if you don't need it. (There is free parking in Lerwick near the terminal) Big room with lovely views across the sound. Good quality food.

There is no evening meals on Mondays and no alternative close by - so make sure you eat in Lerwick on the days the restaurant is closed. The locals must be hardier than us as we found the room on the cold side and the heating only on for the towel rail.

Nelly and James are the perfect hosts and make you feel very comfortable at their hotel. The rooms are nicely done with very comfortable beds, great bathroom and all the amenities you would need. The restaurant is another highlight of this hotel with a very creative decoration and a superb food quality that Nelly personally prepares. The delicious breakfast prepared by Nelly obviously follows the the same high level and quality. If you like Whisky be prepared to be overwhelmed by a fantastic collection of options cherished by James. Definitively the place to stay when exploring the Shetlands, I couldn't recommend more.

There is nothing not to like at the Maryfield House Hotel. Nelly and James have taken care of everything.

Everything! The owners and staff were warm and friendly, our room was large, comfortable and well-appointed. Breakfasts and dinners were delicious. Our four night stay was the highlight of our two week visit to Scotland.

I can't think of one thing about the hotel itself. It's a seven minute ferry ride and a very short walk/drivefrom Lerwick but well worth the trip.

Lovely period house, newly fitted out and very comfortable. Huge bedroom with lovely ensuite. immaculately clean. Views of the sea from the bathroom and the bedroom. watched the sun go down from the room, the light changing room over the land and the sea. Two minutes walk from the ferry too. The restaurant was lovely and the food first class. The bar was well stocked. Our hosts managed the combination of friendly, efficient and unobtrusive.
