There as a buffet breakfast with a good selection of well-cooked hot food. The separately-run restaurant was comfortable and served a good selection of quality food. There was adequate free parking at the hotel. The location was a short walk to the sea front and other restaurants, but set back from the noise and bustle of the town centre and working harbour.

Because of the shortage of twin rooms (and my late booking!) we ended up with an 'Access' room. Although this was very clean and well appointed, it was less suitable for able-bodied occupants and some feature of the bathroom made it awkward to use - especially if you were an older person (but not disabled). One wonders how the disabled person's carer (in the second bed) would have found it...

The property was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was ideally located for everything in Ullapool and surrounding areas.

We were travelling with our dog and the room was large enough to accommodate this, we weren’t tripping over her or her dishes etc. Although we couldn’t dine in the main dining room for dinner or breakfast if the dog was with us we had the option to leave her in the room or alternatively at night dine in the bar or for breakfast a table was made up for us and other guests travelling with dogs just outside the main doors of the dining room.

This hotel is a good place to stay for a night in Ullapool. The rooms were clean and modest, great for one night. The town is very small, and this hotel is central to many things (although most places closed at 5 before we got there). The grocery store is around the corner. We made reservations at the restaurant in the hotel in advance, and the food was very good and we enjoyed our wine.

It was difficult to carry luggage upstairs to our room and down the hallway with many heavy fire doors, especially for someone with accessibility needs. However, this is very common in Europe and to be expected. The breakfast buffet had a lot of options but didn't have anything we absolutely loved, but we could tell the staff were working really hard to ensure every guest got what they needed and enjoyed themselves.

The hotel has had much improvement since I last stayed, although the improvements where desperately needed they've made it a much better establishment. The car park is excellent now, the rooms have had a good redecoration and it feels much more modern now. Checking in and out is very quick and easy, and breakfast had a good selection and I personally enjoy being able to just help myself.

Only a couple of little niggles, a fan in the room would be a welcome addition. And we also found it strange that after we'd gone out to eat, we all decided as we were all stopping in the same place we'd go back and use the hotel to get some drinks and chat before bed, some folks had alcoholic drinks and this was fine but I wanted a Latte and my partner a tea, but we couldn't have hot drinks unless we order food??? Very strange and we all ended up going to bed earlier so we could get a brew in our room.

Very clean and modern on the inside. Warm and comfortable room with a good sized bathroom. Staff are very friendly and welcoming, even giving my dog a treat on arrival. A nice touch. 👍 Had dinner in the bar. It was very fresh and tasty food, and the portions were very generous. Breakfast is a buffet with a great selection of hot and cold food.

To me, £175 for a room on a B&B rate for one night is a bit steep, but then Ullapool is a closed market. Not overflowing with accommodation and is a busy town for travellers coming to and from the Outer Hebrides and doing the NC500. It's not like this was more expensive than the other options for accommodation in the area, even the Youth Hostel was over £100 for a night in a dorm!

The room was great and easily accessible for my mother who is 88. Shower was lovely and warm, the beds were comfy and it was great that the hotel was dog friendly. The hotel was in a great location, and I had a good walk with the dog in the evening seeing the local sights. Great to be able to park so close to the door in the rear car park.

Great to see the electric car charging points (I have an electric car, although not using it this trip) but disapointing to see that not one of the cars parked on the charging bays were electric. I would have been horrified to have arrived in my electric car, and not to be able to charge it. This needs sorting.

We stayed as an overnighter recently before taking the ferry to Lewis for a music festival, we’d heard some poor reports about the hotel but I’ve always loved the phrase “expect nothing, appreciate everything”. It’s reasonable value for money, maybe a touch pricey when adding breakfast to the mix as well as a an add on. The Caledonian is a bright, vibrant fresh hotel; clean, modern and everything you would want in a hotel used for short stay. Rooms are not massive but not small either, spotlessly clean and well appointed, there is a nice ambiance to the rooms as well. The restaurant and bar areas maintain the cleanliness and fresh vibe of the rest of the hotel and are pleasant to sit in for a while. Breakfast is plentiful and very varied and good!

There’s very little comment but like everywhere there are wee things. When it occasionally gets warm in the north west Highlands fans in the room would help, we slept in an oven. If you have any mobility difficulties then strongly suggest you ask for lower floor rooms, the stairs are a little narrow and steep. I’d also suggest that gluten free bread be openly available at breakfast rather than have to ask.

Room was well appointed and very comfortable. Great location for the ferry.

The price was a little more than I wanted to pay but the room was certainly lovely. My room was on the 3rd floor and there's no elevator. It was a bit of a struggle with my luggage and there didn't seem to be a valet of any kind. I was surprised given the quality and size of the hotel. The windows in my room were hard to close and even when the receptionist came she couldn't completely close one of them. She did say she would look into it. There's no phone in the room to connect you to the reception but there is one at the end of the hallway at the stairs.

The building itself is quite dated & it it strange to have to carry a great big door key around with you rather than a key card etc, and it's very nature is a little rambling. The room was quaint but once again things like squeaky floorboards & older equipment give it a bit of a bed & breakfast feel rather than a hotel, but it was light & airy and the staff were exceedingly helpful, printing off 4 pages from an e mail I asked for, whereas the hotel the previous night had refused to do so. We had dinner & went out to enjoy the scenery but came back to music in the main bar which was very nice and made the evening move along nicely. Breakfast was superb with a very good choice including fried bread, that seems to have been completely replaced by hash browns these days. All in all a lovely stay that I would heartily recommend

A bit more choice in the menu at the bistro would have been nice

Recently renovated hotel in a fantastic location, right in the centre of Ullapool, just back from the harbour. Our room was freshly decorated with a big, modern bathroom and a lovely view of the hills with glimpses of the sea. Very dog friendly, we ate our evening meal in a dog friendly area just outside the main dining room. Ignore the old reviews, the Caledonian is being constantly improved.

Our first room was on the ground floor and didn’t have a great view, we asked to change rooms and the staff happily obliged. The shower took a while to warm up but there was plenty of hot water when it did.
