Wild Ginger Hotel

Absolutely loved my stay here. Such a cool hotel. Loved the vintage rooms, wood carvings in the lobby, free breakfast and being located within walking distance to everything downtown. Staff was just amazing! At a fraction of the cost of the other hotels I stated in during my vacation on the island, the Wild Ginger is a super value. Wish I would have saved the money and stayed there my entire stay. Not a luxury hotel by any means but in many ways better. This is the hotel if you want that true Hawaiian experience.

We enjoyed everything about our stay. The vintage rooms, the friendly staff, beautiful lobby artwork, free parking and free breakfast all tied together nicely to provide an exceptional value for Hawaii lodging. We enjoyed our stay very much and we will miss the Wild Ginger!

All! Even though it's a simple, local and antique hotel, our stay was great! Staring by Lee at front desk that was so kind and amazing to us. If you're expecting for a super fancy and impersonal hotel, this is not for you. The stay was great because it was simple, connected to the nature and cultural. You sleep and wake up with the sound of the animals outside and it was so beautiful. Breakfast is very nice and the area you get to eat is rich of details and, of course, more nature. Price was great for the offerings. If you are a nature and local culture appreciator, that place is for you.

We liked everything because we were expecting a local hotel with more nature energy and we got it!

The breakfast was delicious - particularly the fruit! The location was perfect - an equal distance away from all of the things we were doing during our vacation! And the friendliness of the staff was unmatched - great energy, the best sight-seeing recommendations, and incredibly helpful and kind.

I am a huge scared-y cat when it comes to bugs so having the screens on the windows was great, but they were all in need of some patching/replacing so that may be something to look into moving forward! But, the only insect visitors we did encounter during our stay were fruit flies and small moths which was a relief!

The property is an older Hawaiian style hotel that’s full of charm. My boyfriend and I stayed here after arriving in Hilo and it was better than we expected. Nothing too fancy but the staff was wonderful as was the breakfast and a clean private room with bathroom that was reasonably priced. Its not a luxury hotel. If you’re looking for a place with some personality and friendly staff this is the spot to be!

I loved the property, it is not a luxury hotel though so if that’s what you’re looking for it’s not for you.

When we arrived our hostess was very friendly and really made us feel welcome and she recommended a restaurant for our dinner which was delicious! And, it was very close to the airport and we arrived there within 10 minutes. Also, the room was very clean and the room rate was very reasonable for Hawaii.

This hotel was the first built on the island and because we arrived after it was dark and left before daylight we didn't have a chance to tour the hotel, see the garden, and eat their Hawaiian breakfast.

Breakfast was delicious fresh fruit bakeries... location is not too far from restaurants. But we especially like the manager who gave us a ton of information of what to see around. It really help instead of looking at maps etc... thank you!

Everything was as expected so nothing to complain about. No AC but we were warned and apparently no AC so far in our trip even at the expensive Volcano house at the national park. But why? So hot here even in september.....

This is a well-located property, very reasonably priced hotel close to downtown Hilo and sights on the east side of the Big Island. At first glance it is daunting - needed to check other reviews when we first pulled up, because it looks so shoddy from the outside. But inside - wonderful carvings, beautiful garden, delightful staff! We had a rain forest outside our window which was delightful.

This did not bother us, but the rooms are spartan (no dressers, relatively small).

i loved the hosts and the lovely simplicity of the hotel and its quiet refined aspect. i could afford to pay more but Wild Ginger has the heart I love and I don’t need sterile same old hotel rooms. The bed and shower are very clean. it was quiet and lots of breakfast things ( perhaps gluten free for one option would be nice). this place will be a lot more expensive in the future. a great place and lovely people.

Hotel is very well located- near to downtown- just few minutes walk. It’s old Hawaiian style with amazing atmosphere - and even if first impression wasn’t “wow” I liked this place very much. It’s almost forgotten time - old Hawaii

Need some renovation but is very clean, beds are comfortable and lobby very nice. For me a little too loud neighbourhood.
