Sea Mountain

Fully equipped kitchen, staff were all great and very responsive. Room was clean and the location quiet--away from all tourist related impacts. View was very nice. The property is older but upkeep good. The few issues were responded to immediately and fixed. The pool is small but adequate for kid romping. The hot tub was available if desired. BBQs were spotless. The defunct golf course is mowed so it doesn't appear to be abandoned and the Nene like it. The nearby black sand beach with turtles is fun to visit. Visitors should know that there are no stores or restaurants near the property and all food supplies must be brought in. The nearest grocery store is 30 miles away. Not a bad thing but important to know. Bring your own shampoo as well. Located about halfway between Hilo and Kona. The black sand beach is a 10 minute walk from the property.

There could be one more BBQ, wait times for the grill can be long especially if a user has a big meal or does not offer to share space. Check the window screens when you arrive. The mosquitos are not bad but pesky if the screens are not correctly in place. The units are 2 story and noise from the upper unit can be a problem in the lower unit. This happened to us and management quickly reminded the upstairs noisy neighbors and the problems resolved.

The instructions for an 'after hour check-in' were clear and easy to follow. That went smoothly! The property is well maintained, clean and beautiful. Overall it is quiet, peaceful and very safe. Free parking is available just in front of your unit. The apartment is unbelievable clean and well organized. It's spacious and has a lot of amenities like a washing machine and dryer. I really loved it!

When you check in after the office hours, you have to return the next day to prevent a deactivation of your room key and an additional fee. This was very, very inconvenient. We had a busy travel schedule and we had to drive back in the middle of the day to get back on time. That was annoying. The same goes for the check-out: it's also only during the office hours but we had a flight early in the morning so that was not possible for us. I think there is some room for improvement :) The 'open' concept of the building (for natural ventilation) is not ideal when you enjoy a silent evening. Even though our neighbors were quiet, we could still hear their TV, their voices and all their activities. I prefer a well insulated apartment.

Perfect stopover on the road to Hilo - cozy setting - and once we had figured out the "cooling situation" (no A/C - but you rarely need that in Hawaii with all the gentle breezes) the two large fans in the unit was more than enough. The unit was large, seating more than ample, and the view lovely - we shared our breakfast with an inquisitive gecko as we had our coffee on the balcony. The black sand beach is just minutes away, but with quite a pounding surf - nearest restaurant/grocery store is about 20 minutes away, so come prepared.

The outside lanai with the table and chairs was great for eating and enjoying the distant ocean view and hearing the waves. The kitchen is small but we’ll equipped. The bathroom was large and clean. It is a quiet area, a great relaxing getaway! The stars at night are so clear! The staff are friendly and helpful! Thank you.

The stairs going down to the room at this particular apartment on the ground floor are a bit steep when carrying suitcases. Sorry the hot tub was not working.

Check-in, cleanliness, size of unit, location fairly convenient to Volcanoes National Park, attractive landscaping

I realize that the resort cannot control the public road to Black Sand Beach, but the vehicle traffic, particularly loud motorcycles, right next to our units disturbed the sleep of the guests that occupied this unit. The area lacked restaurants. A few things were missing from the kitchen inventory, but management supplied replacements. We were surprised at the lack of an indoor dining table. There was a very nice table on the lanai, but good weather is not guaranteed every day, and biting insects descended before dusk. Strange operation of the TV remote.

The spaciousness of the suite; beautiful landscaping; ease of parking, the requirement for a vaccination record instead of accessing the inconvenient and erratic "Safe Travels Hawaii" site; the location near interesting natural sites; the reasonable proximity to Volcanoes National Park and Hilo.

The excessive road noise (some at 2 & 4 AM) of motorcycles passing immediately next to our chalet enroute to the Black Sand Beach. We realize that the property does not control that, but in the middle of the night it was disturbing; lack of restaurants in area. There were a few kitchen items on the inventory that were missing. We thought that the accommodations, although comfortable & attractive, were overpriced.

We had an ocean view condo on second floor. Great view and excellent location for adventuring in a less populated section of Hawaii! Black sand beach with resting sea turtles a few minutes walk away. Small town nearby, Naalehu, has weekly Farmers Market.

Beautiful location, but it's in a beautiful setting that's in the middle of nowhere. Being the middle of nowhere has it's advantages, but see what I didn't like, below...

Lack of nearby food. The nearest place to get food is over 15 miles away (and those most of the restaurants close early in this rural area). And the nearest full grocery story is 30 miles away. If you get here late, but you didn't stock up on groceries on the way down from Hilo, you're going to be one very hungry puppy in the morning.

Beautiful location walking distance to the black sand beach. Nice ocean views from balconies. Gave us two units very close for our family. Nicely decorated and very clean with comfy beds and hot shower.

No air conditioning. There was a good breeze from the ocean but had to have windows and blinds open and hear the ocean (loud waves/strong winds) all night - OK for me to hear ocean but not for all.

Location was excellent! The unit was clean (but did have ants), and the fold out bed was very comfortable (according to the kiddos). Pool area was pretty and the black sand beach was only a two minute walk away! plenty of turtles!

Ants were very much present inside, but there was a magnet on the fridge that did say to put all food away to help prevent them from coming back.
