DoubleTree by Hilton St. John's Harbourview

I chose to stay at the Doubletree for the views, and I wasn't disappointed. I had a corner room with partial city and harbour views, and it was great. Room was stylish and clean, bed was comfortable, and staff were friendly and helpful - although I wasn't offered any complimentary cookies when I checked in. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant was great. There are also a few cool, indy bars and cafes nearby such as Bannerman Brewery and the Toslo that are worth visiting. Overall it was a great stay.

The hotel is perched on a steep hill so accessibility might be an issue for someone with mobility issues trying to enter or exit the hotel on foot. It is located on the northern end of Water Street - about a 5 min walk away from where the main stretch of restaurants and shops are. This is fine, except the stretch of the street past the Alt Hotel and the Doubletree is basically empty and gets quiet and dark at night - so individuals/women travelling alone may wish to avoid that street when it gets dark out for safety reasons - though I personally never felt unsafe. However, one street north is Duckworth which is lined with cool indy stores all the way to the Doubletree - so it provides a useful and more enjoyable alternative route to the hotel in the evenings.

Great location - easily walkable to Water and George streets, as well as Signal Hill. Good local amenities nearby - coffee shops, restaurants and such. DoubleTree was great, except the television issue described below.

We had two stays - Aug 1-2, then again Aug 8-12. The first stay we had no television at all. Second stay we had limited television until Day 3, when a technician finally arrived to fix it. Had asked 3 times. Also, you should subscribe to a channel that plays Blue Jays baseball games.

There was a parking garage on-site (CND 10 per night). There were many restaurants within walking distance, and the Johnson Geo Centre and Signal Hill heritage site were a few minutes drive. The staff (especially Anne) was attentive and knowledgeable. I had the option of texting requests. Our room was quiet, clean, and had two seating areas. There was a mini fridge, no freezer.

The pillows were too thick. If possible, please provide a thinner option.

View was spot on! We booked a Harbour view room and we could see all the way from signal hill right down to the ship yard. My husband loved watching the ships coming in and out of the Harbour. The 'theme' of the room was ship like and was very fun but not over the top. Staff were very friendly and accommodating (we arrived early and they stored our luggage and gave us the first available room to check into, called taxis for us when needed and recommended local activities). Location was good, walking distance to the downtown area.

Luxurious room and the parking was good even though you had to pay. Convenient for downtown St Johns and an easy drive to the airport Girl greeting us at check in was great

Couldn’t get Blue Jays game on tv and the other channels weren’t great except news.Lightning too dark to see the sockets by the bed. I called the front desk twice but nobody answered. I called careline then but nobody answered that either.

we requested harbour view room, the response was that the hotel had put the request for harbour view room. we only learned that it was not harbour facing when we entered the room. i went to the front desk, was told that there was no harbour view room available. it was fine not to have a harbour view room. what annoyed me was the attitude of the lady at the front desk. lately I communicated with the hotel via Booking.com messaging system. which didn’t make me feel any better.

Staff at arrival was wonderful, appreciated the warm cookies, tv was huge, room was very clean and nicely updated, bathroom was spacious, loved the coloured room doors, harbour view was great, location was fairly easy to access, parking was good

Noisy heating/cooling unit, personally I didn't find the bed and bedding that comfortable but my son loved his bed so to each their own on that point, wish there was an option for Netflix on the tv, could have done without the spotlight on top of the tall cabinet, no hooks in the bathroom (except on the shower wall) to hang used towels was kinda weird and inconvenient

Beautiful location - right on the waterfront, lovely rooms, excellent staff, very accommodating! I had booked a harbor view double room and then our flights were delayed so we arrived two days late and they had no more Harbor View doubles so they gave us 2 adjoining Harbor view Kings for the same price. After have a Horrific experience with the airlines trying to get there, it was so nice to receive such excellent service once we arrived. I would most definitely stay there again!

The cookies were a little burnt some nights BUT those are an added bonus anyway so I wouldn't hold that against them.

Walking distance to restaurants and shopping

Only one day of room cleaning in 8 nights, for the price we paid I don’t believe that was enough and we shouldn’t have to go looking for fresh towels and more in room coffee on a daily basis.

The staff was exceptional and nothing was ever a problem. Warm cookies friendly smiles. We understand that housekeeping is not the same as pre-Covid but we had all the services we needed for a great stay.

The food in the restaurant was good but you should remember to make dinner reservations. We tried twice to eat in the hotel restaurant but were unsuccessful.
