Hôtel AKENA BESANCON

Our stay at the hotel was just one night, a stopover on the way further south. The hotel is located very close to the A36 motorway, which was ideally suited to our travel plans. But even though we arrived at the hotel four hours before official check-in, the staff were incredibly kind to let us in without any hassle, gifting us a great opportunity to visit Besancon in the afternoon. The restaurant next to the hotel offers a sufficiently broad choice of dishes to match most tastes (though a vegetarian traveller might find the menu a little lacking). The room was very quiet and the bed comfortable enough. The well-appointed bathroom was very clean. Most of the hotel staff do not speak much English, but they are very helpful and communicative. 10/10.

The parking lot is video secured and the gate closes at 10pm. The rooms are well-tended and tidy. The bed could be longer for a tall person (6ft6) like me, but is very comfortable anyway. The hotel was conveniently located for our journey. Our room and bathroom were spacious and breakfast offered a large number of options including pastries, meats, cheeses and fruit.

As our room was on the ground floor at the front of the hotel, we did experience some road noise. Whilst the bathroom was designed for disabled access and was a wet-room style shower, it didn't drain properly and ended up with large amounts of pooled water on the floor.

Hotel is new, very clean and conveniently located very near motorway. Excellent choice for those travelling by car. Staff is very polite and helpful. Breakfast is tasty and exceeds what you can expect in 3* hotels in France. We will definitely choose it again if we travel this route.

The Hotel web page and boooking.com displays wrong information about reception closing time at 21:00 hours while in fact the reception is open till 22:30. This may be a bit stressful for those non-French speaking who want to check-in late.

Close to highway, on-site parking, restaurant Nextdoor. Staff was very nice and welcoming. I actually left my wallet in my room when checking out and the housekeeping staff members tracked me down in the parking lot to return it! Excellent service!

Room was warm and could not get the air conditioning unit to blow air. Appeared to be pre-set. Had to open window which allowed more road noise in the room.

Very clean modern hotel. Staff very friendly and rooms were very comfortable. Convenient stop over point when driving from the south of France.

Not so much about the property but it has a Tesla rapid charge point at the back. It seemed to be always be busy with cars driving in front of the hotel to reach the charge point.

Only small notice I want to mention if acceptable, at least 2 bottles of water in the room as hospitality for hotel guests will as more advantages to the hotel.

Modern, clean, friendly and right beside the motorway. Plenty of Electric charging for your hybrid or electric vehicle (also Tesla spaces). Excellent breakfast. 15 minutes drive into the lovely town (which I can recommend for dinner). The rooms were spacious, spotlessly clean with excellent bathrooms and very comfortable beds. You can open the windows fully and also have electric blinds. USB connectors also a nice touch. Excellent breakfast to get the day off to a good start, especially if you are traveling further. For us this was a very good stopover location.

Of course, many may prefer to be in the town, but the practicability of being right beside the motorway outweighs that.
