Mercure Hotel Plaza Essen

The staff at this hotel was very friendly, staff speaks fluent English and German and gave us a warm welcome. There's a bar with a terrace where you can order tasty cocktails at a fair price and the bartender was great. The location of the hotel is close to Grugahalle Essen where we went to a concert, and the club in the city centre we visited later. By taxi it only takes you a couple of minutes to go to either place or you can take a walk of about 20 minutes. The room was clean and spacious with a big television, capsule coffee machine (with coffee and black tea capsules), a bluetooth speaker and airconditioning. There's a parking garage right next to/under the hotel. There are soap, shampoo and body lotion dispensers in the bathroom so that's a great alternative for the single use mini toiletries. I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel.

The only negative about our stay is the shower in our room. When we got back home after a night out at around 4AM the shower and the sink faucet only ran scorching hot water and would just not get colder. Since it was late and we were tired we didn't contact the front desk. In the morning the water was okay again but we couldn't get the shower to continue running from the shower head (it kept changing back to the bath faucet) because the switch didn't seem to work properly. I highly doubt this is something that happens often though so I wouldn't worry about it ;) (Not necessarily a bad thing but a note for people with allergies: there is slightly fluffy carpet in the room. I do have to say it was vacuumed well since I have allergies but it didn't bother me during my stay.)

Location was very good, walking distance from Messe and city centrum. Reception staff was really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, special thanks about good coffee machine. Our room (Deluxe Queen) was really nice, spacious, light and nicely furnished.

Bed was hard and pillows bad. Lot of traffic noise, very busy street. Very eager house keeping, were coming to clean early morning (but did a good job though). Not a restaurant in the hotel, bar was very basic, but good restaurants nearby.

We have already been here before on business trips and we were again not disappointed. The room is comfortable and large, the bathroom is well equipped, the water temperature is constant in the shower. The breakfast has a wide variety and everything is very tasty. Especially the vegetables are superbly fresh. Reception desk is kind and helpful. Garage is easily accessible, albeit the parking places are bit tight for SUVs and the like. All in all a great experience and we are looking forward to our next visit.

We have been on the road for several weeks in England and Germany. This hotel was well above all the other hotels we stayed in. We really appreciated the room service that cleaned our room during our absence during the day. Also, we appreciated that we could extend our stay for a day without having to pay a higher rate.

Very comfortable business hotel, close to the subway and with some nice restaurants at walking distance. Easy access to Messe Essen. Breakfast was good and staff was always nice and kind. Room was spacious and cozy.

It would have been nice to sit outside on the balcony in the mild October weather but, unfortunately, there was no table and chairs on the balcony and probably only there during Summer months. I did ask but was told that they were not available.

Nice and clean properly with excellent and friendly staff. They just make you feel welcome. Stayed there the second time and will definitely choose the hotel again.

the gym was a bit small, but ok and no access to the pool anymore unfortunately due to COVID restrictions

For my stay nothing much do dislike. The breakfast was on the pricey side so I didn't partake in it.

Wonderful room with stunning view. Really appreciated the slippers and bathrobe. Spotlessly clean. Great breakfasts. Lovely friendly staff who were always willing to help.

Breakfast is overpriced. Location is quite a bit of a walk to the subway station.
