Quarterdeck Inn Port Hardy

Dog friendly/very comfortable beds and LOADS of hot water that was a huge relief after having spent the previous night in the DUMP that was Pioneer Inn! we stayed there for a night as, when we tried to book you for Saturday night 3rd December on Booking.com that night was blocked off! only disappointment was the nature of the so-called pub next door to the Inn which only offered Chinese food (a stretch to call it a PUB)! As there was nowhere open to eat we reluctantly went over there and sat in a freezing cold room (the Chinese owners of the “Pub” had instructed the staff to keep the thermostat at almost “OFF” - 6 degrees and when we asked the waitress if we could, at least, have the gas fire on she told us that the fire had been broken for 3 years since before the new Chinese owners took over! What a HORRID experience and so we had a bowl of soup and were so cold that we left!!

Got carried away after I mentioned what we DID like about the property but there, definitely, has to be something done about the ‘only Asian food” PUB! Given that there are so few ‘Eateries’ in Port Hardy (disappointing for such a large town) to have what appears to be the only so-called pub in town only serving Chinese food AND freezing out their customers while doing so is disgusting!

Second time to stay at this property. Front desk staff were very helpful, with special mention to the same nice lady who received me during my first stay. The view was slightly better from this room than the previous one.

Same housekeeping staff was knocking on the door half an hour before check-out, with the same line of: "Oh, I thought you had already gone." I understand that she might be eager to finish her day early, but there were hardly any guests and we were given an extra hour by the front desk to check out. Too bad the restaurants in Port Hardy are closed for the Christmas holidays. Had to get our meals from another hotel, where the pub was open year-round.

The view of the harbour and marina from the room was very nice. The room was very clean, quiet and offered everything we could ask for including good coffee. Overall though, I would definitely recommend this property.

Not sure why many hotels can't offer fresh cream for their coffee instead of whiteners to be honest? Enough money is spent on ensuring good coffee, so it goes to say that offering cream could only enhance that experience. The breakfast was just adequate as a takeaway and could have been better. It would have also been nice to have some more snack options at the hotel since there's not a whole lot else around except the grocery in town.

The convenience of being close to town. The view of the harbor was also great. The perk of a kitchenette in the room was also handy.

The thermostat in the room needs to be replaced as it wasn't reading properly or controlling correctly. Also the window in the hallway needs the seal replaced, it whistled all night from the wind. Also a larger than preschool toilet would be nice.

The lady at the front desk was very welcoming. The bed was very comfortable and there were different types of pillows available. The hotel seems to have been updated as it looked new. It was convenient to have a restaurant on the premises.

Check-out was supposed to be at 12pm, but the housekeeping staff was already knocking on the door at 11:30am. There's more than enough room in the bathroom to have a slightly wider shower. It was a bit too narrow even for a small person like me.

The breakfast in a bag was basic but not bad. The room was large, the bed comfortable and the shower excellent.

When we arrived only one of our two reservations was on file but that was corrected. The room was large but windows on the parking lot meant we could not open the blinds. I have been charged twice for one of the rooms we reserved and finding it difficult to obtain a correction. Still waiting to hear from management.

The breakfast (included in price) was very poore. The breakfast in the pub was Chinese - not our favourite. Fortunately there were some breakfast options in town (ca 2km out)

Definitely the breakfast in the pub should be with bigger variety.

Ideal for our stopover before catching the early ferry, and nice to have a pack up breakfast provided as we were leaving early. Had a nice meal at the pub next door (Chinese menu) when pretty much everywhere else in the town was closed (Sunday evening)

Nothing, it was fine for our needs.

One of only a few hotels in Port Hardy, this is well located on the marina with harbour views from all rooms. Watching four bald eagles play outside the window was a bonus. It is especially close to the water taxi for access to the North Coast Trail. The staff was friendly, the facility was clean and the beds comfortable.

The morning sun warms the room and can make the lack of AC an issue. Windows do open though and very hot weather is exceptional. The breakfast is basic, no hot items but is served from 0530 on. The restaurant was closed (due to COVID) but another was available a few steps down the street.
