We loved Alert Bay Lodge. It's rather quirky and clearly a labour of love for the owners Nina and Scott. There is an amazing communal space where you will find some really interesting objects and First Nations art. As well as comfy sofas and a lovely fire, tea and coffee is available. It is a wonderful open area to spend the evenings. From here you can access a veranda with incredible views over the water. The location is amazing, we saw orca in the water right outside the lodge! Nina and Scott are very friendly and engaging hosts. There was some healthy competition going on between them with their breakfasts. We had an early excursion on our first morning so Scott made us breakfast rolls to go, which were great. On our second morning we had pancakes made by Scott which were very nice but on our third morning we had pancakes made by Nina which were sublime (sorry Scott) We loved our stay here and would definitely return.

Excellent nutritional breakfast! Amazing view! Friendly and helpful staff. Cozy, interesting decor. Being so close to the shoreline and immersed in nature was special. I loved the main gathering room with all the different places to sit, read or play games. Hearing the eagles every day was a bonus. The whole place gave me a sense of relaxation which I haven’t felt for a long time.

Bed was soft and creaky. No hair dryer in room.

only one word: AMAZING. My family and I enjoyed the accommodation so much! Apart from the fact that the building itself (partly an old church, partly an old school) is incredibly beautiful and has been furnished and restored with great attention to detail, the hosts were super friendly and accommodating! We learned a lot about Alert Bay and even though the island is very small, you can still experience so much here. The islanders are also very friendly and always up for a good chat. Overall a great stay, we would have liked to stay a little longer to explore the neighboring islands from there. And of course it should be mentioned that we could even see whales from the beach!

The property is conveniently located just a quick 15 minute walk from the ferry, food store and pharmacy and the U’mista cultural center. The building is charming and has the feel of a lodge and breathtaking views of the water. It is quiet and the beds were comfortable and the shower had some of the best water pressure ever. We met very interesting people during our stay and will even keep in touch! This is not a touristy area and is for the cool travelers 😎 that like to experience some unique places. We went on a tour and saw grizzly bears and while on the ferry saw orca whales. This island is magical and so is the lodge. The restaurant on premises is managed by two of the most interesting people we’ve ever met. The food is gourmet quality and I bet you $50 you won’t get a better meal within 100 miles. This place made us feel so relaxed and calm and we learned about First Nations which was an honor to be able to have a small look into their fascination traditions.

The Alert Bay Lodge was charming, comfortable and hospitable. Very unique setting, with a warm welcome from the hosts. Good location, easy walk into "town". The community is great, lots to see and do. Fascinating history. Marvelous must-see: the U'mista Cultural Centre. Whales, dolphins and otters passing by the front of the Lodge every day!

We loved our stay at the Alert Bay Lodge. It is very quaint and we loved that it was so different from the usual generic accommodation. Natasha and Ian, the hosts, are so welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was great and we had dinner one night which was also really good. We just felt so ‘at home’ and were sorry leave.

Booked a couple of nights at Alert Bay Lodge as a "base camp" before heading out for a wildlife tour. Upon my arrival I was immediately struck by the sheer coziness of the place (it smelled like the kitchen/dining room of my grandparents hotel and restaurant from when I was a kid: the smell of a thousand home cooked meals and just as many warm wood fires) so, in short, a great smell. Paula and Pablo were extremely welcoming and attentive, making sure I had everything I needed and Pablo even prepared me a delicious home cooked meal despite the fact that the kitchen wasn't technically open when I arrived. My room was warm and comfortable, with a lovely private balcony to sit and stare out at the ocean on. I had a great sleep in the queen size bed. I can't stop thinking about the amazing home cooked breakfast they served up before I had to catch the ferry off island! I very much enjoyed my stay here and will definitely be back for another visit!

The location was very good. Quiet convenient and easy to find. The ambiance of the place was exceptional. The host took the time to show us around the island. The culture and art in Alert was amazing to see.

The place had a musty smell to it. Bathtub ran slowly.

Beautiful location, the beds were super comfortable and everything was very clean. Our host Nina was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the history and local culture of the island.

We chose room 4, it was large and comfortable with an outside deck where we could sit and watch the water in the evening. We frequently walked the 10 minutes to town. We enjoyed the choices for breakfast.
