The hotel is situated in a very vibrant and convenient place to visit Cairo. It is easy to get around with taxis and the subway station. You can also walk around to go to Tahrir square and other places. The hotel is very nice, clean and I loved the decoration and architecture. The staff is very friendly and kind. The rooftop is great to have breakfast and have dinner in the evening, relaxing after a long day of walking.

Of course the neighbourhood is noisy - but I was not upset by it, on the contrary, it is part of the charm

Breakfast. They allow me to check-in at 7am whereas the check in time was 12pm. They phone to make sure that everything was Ok. When I reported the Tv not working they immediately send someone to attend to the matter. The man that checked me in could speak and understand English.

I paid for a taxi. Where I sat was no seat belts. When I asked the taxi driver for my seat belts he did not understand me. The vehicle did not look suitable as a taxi. Side mirrors not working and it was in several accidents according to the many crash marks. I had a very dirty loose carpet in my room. Full of human hair and spots. It was not cleaned.

The Carlton is an amazing survivor built in 1935, in the modernist style of the time. This part of Cairo was highly fashionable at that time, and the interior has been carefully maintained in its original style. We loved the Roof Garden, open daily for breakfast and again from 3.00pm to 1.00am. It's popular with non-residents too. There is a choice of Egyptian or Continental breakfast (Egyptian is best), and in the evening food, drinks and shisha pipes are available. The staff are all very friendly. Our bedroom had a nice big bed, very comfortable. Good aircon and heating via the aircon (useful on a cool winter's evening). Reception staff were extremely helpful. We were very happy with our choice, and had three separate stays here during our two weeks in Egypt.

Minor detail: TV has squillions of channels, all African/Middle Eastern. But no BBC. English language news via France 24 and Al Jazeera - if you can find them! Bathroom was pretty compact, but modern and with plentiful hot water.

Located in downtown Cairo, not far from Tahir Square, this hotel is an absolute gem. From the moment you walk through the door, you feel like you are in a Noel Coward play, expecting gentlemen in tuxedos and ladies in flapper style dresses to waltz through the lobby. The corridors are lined with interesting old photos, and the high ceiling rooms are lined with wooden panelling, juxtaposing with the flat screen television. Adequate bathroom, comfortable enough beds and tea, and coffee making facilities. The highlight of the place is the rooftop lounge and terrace bar and restaurant. This is where they serve the delicious Egyptian or continental breakfast in the morning and where you can enjoy a drink or meal with views of the city skyline in the evening. The staff were friendly and efficient, with Amr Gaber being particularly attentive.

The rooms are on the 6th and 7th floors, but despite this and some shutters, it can be a bit noisy. However, that's a price worth paying for being in the middle of the sensual onslaught that is Cairo, in my opinion.

The location was excellent for tours and the front desk staff were very helpful. The Egyptian breakfast was great. Amr, the Rooftop area manager, was exceptional, as were most of the staff.

I travelled with a friend ... she chose a double roon and I booked the Studio Suite but found it too difficult to navigate due to my age. I was given another, cheaper room. However, we were charged for my friend's room AND the studio room at the higher rate of over US100. A request for a part refund was met with a statement that I need to go through Booking.com. Not happy!!

The Carlton is a real gem! The location is Downtown Cairo within walking distance of the Nile a the museum and all the architectural treasures of Downton are right on your doorstep with many great bars and restaurants right near you. The decoration is kept as it was since opening in the 30's and you will feel transported back in time. A special shout out to Mr. Ahmed the manager who is also an Egyptologist at the museum and is full of fascinating stories and can also arrange special tours. He helped me see a very special side of Saqqara necropolis. To Mr. Amr who will take great care of you at breakfast and all the staff of reception and the roof bar who will make sure you have all you need. The roof bar is loved by local residents as well and I spent many happy hours there with shish and cold beers after a hot day walking around. As other commentators mention here, don't come here if you want a soul-less chain hotel with a pool and all mod cons, that is not what this hotel is about. You come here to feel a part of the history of downtown and for the very warm welcome where nothing is too much trouble for the friendly staff. Don't change Carlton Hotel, you truly are a very special and unique place! I would stay here again anytime I came to Cairo.

At this very good price point it would be petty to make a complaint and there wasn't really anything I didn't like. Standing on my balcony in the morning and watching the city come to life was priceless.

Excellent Experience! Location is surrounding by shopping centers and restaurants in the center of Cairo downtown. Room is large, clean with good view. Staffs are nice and helpful specifically, the manager, (Mr Ahmed) who makes my tripe more interesting. I would highly recommend it to everyone are planning to visit Cairo.

Nice old fashioned interesting hotel in the downtown area. A great rooftop restaurant cafe bar and the breakfast provided by the very friendly waiter was excellent.

WIFI sometimes didn't work. I booked with the hotel beforehand for a driver to collect me at the airport but no one showed up when I arrived at the airport terminal exit. I had to take a taxi to the hotel. The hotel should not say on their website that they can provide this service (airport collection) and they only offered me the answer that no driver was available due to the heavy downtown traffic.

This is a beautiful hotel, with traditional hospitality and a lovely rooftop bar. It was clean, well serviced and attentive. We enjoyed the location and felt really in 'the thick' of Cairo. It's not a tourist area and it may not be for everyone, but we enjoyed the chaos and sense of real life. The hotel is an Oasis of calm. Food was good in the restaurant. I liked the Egyptian breakfast. Staff are friendly and helpful

Only quibble is the WiFi, which doesn't work well in rooms, just on the roof.
