It's a beautiful and stylish property. In a hidden path. The breakfast was very nice. The room was very clean although a bit dark. The staff was very friendly although a bit difficult to communicate.

It might be difficult to get an uber as many driver doesn't want to drive pass the narrow path. But if you walk to main street which is about 10 mins should be no problem.

Everything! The room was very comfortable and traditional. It was clean and had good air con. Above all the staff were amazing. They made us feel so welcome and went way above and beyond to make us feel at home. It is unlike anywhere else in the world we have stayed. It is a family and you are welcomed into the family from the minute you arrive. Our host Mariam was superb and was so helpful. Needed to stay a few hours after check out time and it was not an issue. Would unreservedly recommend and hope to return one day

Hard bed. Hard to get to due narrow street it’s in

Location and comfort is the essence of this beautifully styled, small hotel. You're only 50 yards away from Moez St. and all the sights of medieval, Islamic Cairo. The room we had was very quiet with excellent AC, a great retreat from the glorious, full on, hussle and bustle once you leave the hotel. The small courtyard outside the room was a lovely place to relax. The staff were friendly, helpful, and provided a tasty, substantial breakfast. Several spoke good English.

It wasn't a problem for us but as advice - the hotel doesn't have a lift and our room was several flights of stairs up, if you have any mobility issues then you'd need to request a lower room. If you're using their airport transfer make sure it's clear which airport you are using. There was some confusion because we were flying from Sphinx and they thought Cairo. It was easily sorted out but worth double checking!

Our stay was SENSATIONAL from the moment we arrived we received a warm welcome. Our room was clean, comfortable and authentically unique. The location was fantastic right in the heart of Old Cairo. Thank you to everyone at the Gamaleya Boutique Hotel from the persons who carried our bags up all those stairs, cooked our breakfast, artisans who shared their crafts and all of the wonderful hotel management who were so helpful and kind. Our stay with you is a.treasured memorable highlight of our travels in Egypt!

Our first trip to Egypt began with a five-night stay at the Gamaleya Boutique Hotel, and I can’t express how grateful I am that we chose to begin our trip at this unique gem. It was at the Gamaleya that we were introduced to the genuine warmth, kindness, and friendly nature of the Egyptian people. From the moment you arrive, staff make themselves available to cater to your every need, and it didn’t take long before staff members Mariam, Nora, Hani, Abd El-Hamid, Mohammed, Karim, Samah, and Youhanna became our dear and cherished friends, whom we greatly miss now that we’re back in Canada. Whether you want information on the best sites to visit, need help getting around, want to know more about the history and customs, or wish to learn a few basic Arabic greetings, the staff at Gamaleya are quick to help out. Breakfast is included at the Gamaleya, and is prepared in personal fashion by Hani and Nora, who are Gamaleya’s chefs extraordinaire, and always serve with a smile. When they heard that we required non-dairy milk, they scanned the city of Cairo to obtain some for us. Not only do the staff members feel like family, but the Gamaleya itself feels like home. Nestled in the heart of old Islamic Cairo, guests are provided with the opportunity to experience something the large Western-style chain hotels cannot offer. The décor of this quaint hotel, as well as the rooms, are decorated in authentic Middle Eastern style, with everything spotlessly clean. Stepping out the front door you are immediately immersed in Middle Eastern life as it has existed for hundreds of years…exotic sights, sounds, architecture, and the most amazing people. The Gamaleya Hotel and its surroundings represent the real authentic Cairo, as it has been for centuries. You can allow yourself to get lost for hours at night while strolling the cobblestone alleys and mingling with the locals as we did, and never fear for your safety. Crime is not an issue here.. I highly recommend the Gamaleya Hotel.

There is nothing we disliked about staying at the Gamaleya Boutique Hotel. The Gamaleya will always remain our beloved home base whenever we return to Cairo, and we highly recommend that others open themselves up to a true and amazing cultural experience by staying at this gem of a small boutique hotel.

A very authentic place, located right in the heart of the Islamic district. The beauty of the hotel itself and the surrounding streets already makes the place worth visiting. But that’s not all. You can see true masterpieces being created by talented craftsmen right in the lobby. The artworks there were the best souvenirs I saw in Cairo. Rooms are pretty comfortable and have everything needed for a comfortable living. The sweetest staff I have ever met. They treated me like family and helped me as much as they could (even in the situation, they were not obliged to). They brightened up evenings, gently talking with me even though my Arabic wasn’t that amazing😅. The position of the hotel is also a thing worth mentioning. The Moez street, which is 50 meters far from the hotel can bring you through the whole Medieval Cairo, running from the Bab an-Nasr to the Citadel. This is the experience you’ll never get when living in Downtown. I’ve spent the whole week wandering through the narrow streets of the district and will definitely do it more in the future.

We're so glad we found this little gem in the old town of Cairo, it exceeded our expectations (as did Cairo and its people). Be aware that when booking a standard double room, not every room is the same. If you can't handle being assigned a room that is not identical to the pictures of the room you booked, then do yourself a favour and look elsewhere. Same goes if you can't handle the noise of a living city at night (which is actually not as bad as some make you believe). The Gamaleya Boutique Hotel is for those who appreciate unique and quaint accommodation and a location in the middle of where it's happening. We came to explore the old town, and could easily have stayed two weeks here to see it all. We'd return in a heartbeat!

This is a quality hotel which gives tremendous value for money. The recent refurbishment has been done to a high standard creating a very interesting interior layout. Everything was clean and comfortable, with excellent staff making our stay most enjoyable. The breakfast provided was very good. The location in the old Islamic area of town couldn't have been better. Particular mention to staff member Mareem who was most helpful in giving guidance and advice to us regarding the neighbourhood and the hotel in general. The ground floor artisan craft areas were very interesting. The common areas and seating provided welcome places to relax, in a calm quiet environment, despite the clamour outside. I strongly recommend this hotel.

The hotel: luxury beds, tea and coffee in room, modern shower, cozy rooms, strong wifi, and great breakfast. The staff: outstanding! The owner invited us to join him for lunch. Mariam was a super host; she showed us the neighborhood and organized a tour. Even the security guards made us feel at home. The surroundings: If you want to see old cairo, this is the perfect place. It is at the quiet side of Muizz Street, and we were able to explore the streets and the markets during mornings, afternoons, and at night. Super safe. The special part: There are artisan workshops on the ground floor where teachers and students are working tirelessly on carpets, inlaid wood, and copper projects. They will let you try a well. It is all a bigger part of the owner's vision to empower locals and bring the crafts back to old cairo. It was our highlight in Cairo. We can recommend this place with 200 percent!

Friendly and helpful staff, nicely decorated in traditional local style, good location near to busy market areas and genuine old Cairo atmosphere. We enjoyed the delicious breakfast of eggs and bread. Be sure to leave time for the taxi/Uber to be able to take you there and pick you up because it is not an easy location for them to get to or find. It might be easier to have the front desk call the taxi for you.

It is in a busy area, so it is not quiet if that is important for you. Also it was hard to get an Uber to come pick us up because it is in a busy area that is mainly pedestrian. Friendly and helpful staff but they might need time to help you with carrying suitcases up or down the stairs (we were up three flights).
