Great position close to all the sights, and it was easy to find by car, plus you could stop outside to unload your luggage. The room was spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. Car parking was very close to the hotel, and secure. Parking was also free which was an added bonus. We would definitely stay here again.

Nothing really - it was all first class. One tip: when going to the car park, the entrance is not obvious. Entry is through a gap in the hedge, into a small outside car park and then to the covered parking. It took us awhile to notice the entrance!

Location, in the centre of the lovely town of Fougeres was perfect; the bedroom was 'basic' but the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was up to date and the whole experience was perfect. Good breakfast, but if you only want a croissant and a coffee then ten euro is expensive. If you want more, then god value.

Staff on arrival were pre-occupied with a problem. Luckily another gentleman came and made us feel welcome and explained the best place to park and gave us a local map. Receptionists could have said hello and explained they were dealing with a problem. Staff the following morning were lovely.

A great location. Not far from the castle ( just down a steep hill )Friendly owner who let us park our motorbike safely down an alley away from the road. Offered us chocolates and the breakfast was good value at 10 Euros. Other staff were friendly too. A basic room but was clean and everything we needed, though I do prefer two pillows . There was a kettle but don't forget to bring your own milk if you like milk with your tea and coffee. Good value for money. The owner kindly let us stop till midday so we had time to go to the castle.

Hotel Balzac is ideally located at the top of Fougères, we were a one-minute walk from a plaza with some nice bars, cafes, and restaurants. We received a perfect welcome from staff who were very patient with our broken French. I would recommend staying here and will visit again.

The only downside to our stay was the toilet made a lot of noise, it worked efficiently and was well-stocked but thought it may be too loud to use at night - this may not be the case so it is worth asking - Also the shower door wouldn't stay in place, but that wasn't much of a problem as the showers still worked great. Our only other downside is I never ordered breakfast, as we had a morning of exploring planned, the smell from the freshly baked pastries in the morning made me very jealous! So definitely try the breakfast!

The location, the comfort, ambience and the staff were excellent. A hidden gem in a beautiful medieval city. Easy access to the main driving routes makes it an ideal stop when touring the region. Car parking was easy to access and free! Would happily stay at Hotel Balzac again.

Charming hotel located in the centre of historic area. Fougères itself is well worth a visit. Staff are very welcoming and it's dog-friendly.

The single room was tiny, but I knew that on booking. The room (and bathroom) would greatly benefit from a little updating, but everything was sparkling clean.

One of the best location for a visit to Fougères as everything is within walking distance. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast. Comfortable bed. Free public parking nearby... but not so easy to reach (no sign). Availability of room for 3 persons.

The rooms are rather small while bathrooms are quite basic but OK. Departing on Saturdays can be tricky as the street is completely blocked by an open air market.

Perfect location and nearby free parking undercover a bonus.

Tea making facilitiesi in Room was a bonus but no English tea or milk.

There is a kettle in the room to make morning tea! Secure accommodation for bicycle. Perfect location in the old town and handy for eating places. Breakfast from 7am.

There is a church bell to be heard at night, but not oppressively loud even with the window open.

Location is perfect, breakfast was very nice. The staff were great and very helpful.

The double bed dipped in the middle (Room No2) and consequently was not especially comfortable. The key to the door didn't always work and in my opinion needs replacing as it is very worn.
