La Lanterne was a wonderful place to stay right in the middle of medieval Salat. The building dating from 1503 was now completely comfortable and charming. Hosts Jana and Noel made us feel right at home immediately with their welcoming glass of wine and delicious optional breakfasts. We stayed 3 nights to enjoy the Wednesday market, the truffle museum, and a walking tour of the medieval town. It was so nice to be able to sightsee and still drop back in “at home” to relax because La Lanterne was so perfectly located.

We liked everything.

The home, built in the 1500's is gorgeous. The living area where breakfast could be purchased and enjoyed was beautifully decorated and had lovely views of the majestic church. The location was perfect and just a short walk downhill to the center of the old town. One room was 2 stories with the bedroom upstairs and a small sitting area and the bath downstairs via a narrow winding staircase. The room we stayed in was a bit on the small side, but the bathroom was large. As in many of the older European homes and hotels, the showers are very small (corner shower, don't drop the soap!). The host and hostess were extremely helpful, to the point of the host driving with me to show me the way to the free parking lot! They were very convivial and added a lot to our stay in Sarlat.

For the price of the room, I think breakfasts should have been included. We purchased ours at 11E each and they were excellent and hearty. But including them would have been a plus.

Fantastic location right in the heart of sarlat. The room we stayed in had great views over the cathedral and lantern of the dead. Very quaint decor internally. Wonderful little courtyard and living room available to use too The view from the living room is also over the cathedral. As there were wine glasses for use we bought a bottle of wine back and enjoyed the view one evening. The hosts were very accommodating and friendly.

Note that this is a charming little bnb so don't expect spacious bathrooms. The room we booked had a spiral staircase which was fine for us but may not suit everyone.

Friendly thoughtful hosts, well appointed room, beautifully presented delicious breakfast for a reasonable extra fee. Nice restaurants nearby!

The advantage of staying in a lovely historic hotel is the old world ambience. The disadvantage is navigating the parking outside the historic area, especially in the rain. While the “free parking” nearby was very hard to find, we figured it out for the second day.

My daughter and I did a 10 day tour of Europe. This was the best stay of our whole vacation! The hosts are wonderful, kind and welcoming people. Absolutely freaking gorgeous chambre d'hote! Beautiful views from our room. The location is superb. Lovely courtyard and common area. I will be dreaming about the breakfast! I didn't want to leave! I cannot wait to come back with my husband as soon as I possibly can! A bientôt!

Stunning medieval building in the old town. Welcomed by Friendly, hosts Noel and Yanna who were knowledgeable and obviously passionate about the area. Helped and advised us on our trip as well as explaining the history of the area and La lanterne itself. Nothing too much trouble and they produced beautifully presented breakfast in the salon over looking the cathedral including a perfectly cooked egg! Would definitely return especially if this great couple are hosting. Room so comfortable, lovely bedding slept so well.

Jana and Noel were the perfect hosts going above and beyond to ensure a great 2 night stay (too short). Breakfast was a great spread of local produce and excellent value for money. The location is perfect for accessing the heart of Sarlat. We were fortunate enough to be there on a Wednesday, market day, but we got the impression that there's something happening in town most of the time.

We were accommodated in an upstairs room looking over the courtyard with great views of the La Lantern cathedral but the access via a tight spiral staircase was a little challenging

It was a fantastic experience to stay at a beautiful 500+ year old property. Jana and Noel were great hosts and we loved being greeted by their little dog Nanouk each day! The breakfast is delicious and well worth the money!

The steep staircase to the bedroom was a little tricky at first, but you get used to it.

Beautiful place in a great location. Very clean and well decorated. Very friendly and welcoming owners. The breakfast was fantastic! In quality and quantity.

The only thing was the lack of insulation from our neighbours room, we couldn't talk and laugh, because of that. Wall insulation is needed.

The hosts were wonderful & very helpful. The breakfast (which we had 3 days out of 5) was delicious. The hotel is right in the old town of Sarlat, and although the building was old, the room and bathroom were renovated & lovely.

General problems: First, the parking was horrendous. Sarlat in August is very crowded, morning through ~11pm, and finding parking can be impossible. Second, there should be power outlets next to each side of the bed. Accessibility problems (more specific to me): The street outside La Laterne is steep and cobblestone. Cars are not allowed. It is very difficult for people with mobility issues. The room, although on the ground floor, is down then up a total of 7 steep, narrow stairs. These stairs were very difficult for me. Finally I could barely get into the shower, as the doors didn’t open wide enough for me (a fat, size 3x, woman).
