The room was large. It was clean. The bathroom was spacious. There was plenty of storage space. The view from my room was excellent. The staff at breakfast were courteous and helpful. I was able to store my bags for a few hours whilst I waited for my train

The TV in the room was tiny. There was no way you could watch TV from your bed, not that I watch a great deal of Italian TV when I on my travels. The safe in the room was also tiny, maybe room for your passport, wallet and small change, absolutely not big enough for a tablet or a laptop. It was the only hotel on my travels that did not have a kettle and coffee making facilities.

This hotel was minutes from the train station and about 10 minutes from the ferry terminal to Villa San Giovanni - you appreciate that when hauling too much luggage. We had an initial problem with another guest who was constantly hacking and coughing in an adjoining room, so the hotel upgraded us to a corner room, which was fabulous. It had views over the city to the mountains, and some harbour glimpses. Breakfast was excellent range of things. Best we experienced in Italy. On the whole, we enjoyed ourselves so much, we extended our stay an extra night.

Nothing - tutto e perfetto!

The property is located within walking distance to the centre and to many restaurants 10/12 minutes walk.Also 3 minutes walk to train/bus station.Room was spacious and cosy. Bathroom is nice too, brand new.Stuff was nice and polite.Initially we book 4 nights then we decided to add one more night because we liked the city and the hotel.Same day the manager send to our room a bottle of champagne and seasonal fruits for free!!! What a nice gesture!

This is our second stay at Royal Palace and it's largely maintained its quality in the past six years. It's an old building, so some of the furniture is old, but the parts that matter (bed, mattress, pillow, bathroom) have been modernised and ensure a comfortable stay. Breakfast is varied, with fresh fruit and homemade yoghurt among the options, plus fill-yourself canoli available with sweet ricotta and cream available. It's a stone's throw from the train station, harbour and tram hub, smack in the middle of the historical centre, with shopping, sightseeing and food within walking distance. Rooms are very quiet thanks to the vestibules (rooms have an outline that suggest the hotel was more refined in its early years - it was founded in 1977). It might well be the best cost-benefit in Messina.

The shower had hot water alright, but pressure was rather low. Pillows could be taller. Curtains could be better to ensure more darkness. But these are minor points relative to the overall comfort of the place.

Great location, easy check in and check out and on site parking. The breakfast was a standout - really fantastic! And late check out of 12pm was a nice change.

It’s a bit dated but we don’t mind that. Fridge in the room was warm, and parking had gone up to 15 euro since we booked. But really,the breakfast was so fantastic we forgot all that and would recommend. We were very happy with our stay.

It is conveniently located right next to the port and the central station. Breakfast was delicious and its venue was bright and clean. The staff is helpful and friendly. The building itself was a little old, but it was clean and fine.

The shower design makes the bathroom floor waterlogged. The bed springs are a bit too soft, which may be a burden for those with bad backs.

It is so close to the station but yet close to the centre. Beds were super comfy and the breakfast was really good. It is a proper hotel and I appreciate to be able to rest in a proper place, as all the rest of places in Sicily were b and bs... This was great.

The outside part of the hotel is getting fixed and it was depressing to look through the window. Besides that, I dindt like Messina at all. Useless stop on our Sicily discovery. There is only the cathedral to see. A thousand mosquitos bited me and they all got infected. These kind of mosquitos didn´t even bite me like that in the Amazon Jungle! Outrageous....

Despite the hotel being a bit outdated and needing to be renovated, my room was crystal cleaned, and the cleaning service worked like a swiss knife every single day. The location is great. The hotel offers parking in the basement for 8 euros per day which Is affordable and convenient

Very poor breakfasts (however, with a sparkling wine), forget about privacy - you will be heard by others, and you will know all their secrets. Making love is a real challenge in the room.

Very comfortable bed and nice room. Good breakfast and friendly staff. Convenient for the station. Pleasant to sit around in and easy to leave luggage. Also a quick walk to the Duomo and older town.

Madly busy at breakfast time and rather noisy breakfast room (good breakfast though). Only water available to drink in room.

The hotel is very central. Lots of good shops and restaurants nearby. It is very clean and breakfast was very good. Staff are very helpful and the receptionists speak good English. It has a lock up garage. Room was big enough and the bathroom comfortable and very clean. Bed was very comfortable.

I didnt like the fact that the lift from the garage does not work and you have to carry heavy luggage up a steep ramp from the garage and round two streets. Also I think the windows should be sound proof since a lot of traffic passes from the street.
