The hotel is an excellent location on the sea front, it has a divine little garden plus a private swimming pool. Every member of staff went above and beyond to be helpful and friendly. Our room was spotless, spacious and very comfortable. Bus stops at front and rear of the hotel, train station a 20 minute walk. Bicycles for hire. Breakfast was amazing with fresh delicious hot and cold food to choose from. Restaurant for evening dinner is reservation only if you are not half board and you are required to dress smartly. We couldn't believe out luck when we checked into this hotel.

Wonderful hotel! Interesting interior and decoration. The room is comfortable, clean and spacious. Breakfast is quite varied. We stayed at the hotel in April, the swimming season had not yet begun, there were few guests in the hotel, which added coziness and atmosphere. We were upgraded to a sea view room. The reception staff were very nice. especially Julia. She helped arrange sun loungers for us on the beach. We spent unforgettable hours by the sea! The holiday was wonderful!

The hotel is very very very beautiful. With a nice swimming pool and a lot of sunbeds. Many beautiful gardens with seats for relax. The breakfast is really one of the best in Europe, many high quality and ‘power’ food, fruits even has cherries, peach, and passion fruit, yoghurts has greek yoghurt too, nuts include pecan, hazelnuts, white sesame…. Has almond or oat milk…. Pastry are ‘heated’, crispy and really tasty!!! …. Fresh Honey comb… and of course cheese, ham and, hot food… enjoyed the breakfast very much every day. The aperitif with tasty small bites at hotel bar and outdoor garden before dinner is a highlight too. And the hotel has partner for discount at a private beach opposite hotel…. If you want to go Puccini opera festival, this hotel is perfect too, reception helped book the opera coach to and fro, just euro 20, and the coach stop is just outside hotel!

The hotel room is clean but some items a bit old and needs to be fixed. However, I still love the hotel very much and would go back!

We loved the hotel design and location. It was very comfortable and clean. We used the swimming pool every day.

We felt the hotel management did not really care about guests if they were not half board. We tried to book the restaurant 3 times but were told it was full. We felt everything was carefully counted to avoid too much waste. The restaurant staff were not very welcoming ,except the lady at the pool bar . We had stayed in this hotel 10 years before and noticed a chance in the atmosphere..no more live music and little consideration.

Great location across main road from promenade & Sea front. A beautiful building,room was spacious & airy.,Staff very pleasant & helpful especially at Reception & Bar. Hotel was not busy so had a very tranquil relaxed vibe & lovely seating areas off main foyer.Excellent breakfast,very good range/choice. 2 beach chairs,1 lounger & parasol can be obtained by purchasing 15euro voucher at reception for day use,hotel supply the towels. I did obtain a good rate for this hotel.

Had asked for clarification on the dinner menu in restaurant & waitress seemed to have some difficulty in explaining this to me. My query was quite straightforward so found this a dissapointing experience. Table service but mixed with a self service buffet area for salads,breads,vegetables which werent hot. Some young Breakfast room staff seemed to be in training as trying to obtain a pot of tea took many attempts despite other tables having same,not really a problem but just to mention! Hotel had an older clientele staying & our 14yr was the only teenager we could see in the hotel. Car parking on hotel grounds is 20 euro per day,outside on main road is 10 euro. I did get a good deal for our stay,so not convinced I'd stay for the going rate if coming again.

Thé location was amazing, just right across from the beach and bus stop to pisa or other cities. The staff was exceptional - from lucca at breakfast to Paolo at the front desk, they were all incredible kind and accommodating. They really made the stay exceptional. This hotel is like walking back into time into an Italian land. It is wonderful! The pool and garden are lovely and breakfast was amazing.

The AC in our room didn’t work, we beared through it until the last night when we realised it actually was broken and it was too late :(

The hotel is stunningly beautiful and immaculately kept. The entire staff, from the front desk right through to all the restaurant and bar staff, are perhaps the most welcoming, warm and attentive I have ever known. The breakfast, in particular, is astonishing; I really don't think there is any item one could think of that is not available to eat!!

Absolutely nothing!

The choice of food available for breakfest was exceptional plus with the staff were very attentive to our requests, our room was on the fourth floor complete with a balcony to enable us to sit and admire the sea front and had everything you could wish for to make our stay memorable. Finally the location of the hotel we found ideal, right in the centre of Viareggio, right opposite the seashore and only five minutes walk away. Fantastic

Beautiful building, very friendly and helpful staff, lovely pool and facilities. Central location right on the seafront wit a good selection of restaurants and bars in walking distance.

Hotel was a little aged in some areas but was full of character. Parking for the week at the hotel was expensive, worth bearing in mind if you are driving in as we did. You'll need to book ahead also.

as someone who spent a long time researching the area, I’ll write a full report on this hotel which I liked very much. My Italian friend close to this area suggested Viareggio as a great alternative to the expensive and touristy Forte dei Marmi where I wanted to go. Grand Hotel Royal was an amazing option offering similar facilities and access to the beach which was important for me. The hotel is right at the beach front and has an agreement with the bagno (all beaches are privatised by different bagni) for 20 euro a day beach access. it’s a bargain compared to prices in other areas. I opted out of the 3-star hotel and chose Grand Hotel Royal because the 3-star hotel were not as cheap in comparison and were located further away. When you spent the whole day on the beach or had a busy evening on promenade, you want to return to the centrally located hotel with all the comfort and beautiful terraces. Grand Hotel offered all of that. it was super clean, the bathroom was spatious (which was an issue for other hotels in the area I researched), the breakfast was nice even though I don’t like eating too much in the morning. The staff were very helpful and polite, they upgraded my room to the sea view room for no additional price and it was great to fall asleep to the sound of the waves. Great hotel, great value for money, superb location and they offer you beach towels which is super handy in this resort.
