The room was very nice. It was our first time to have stayed at a traditional japanese room with Tatami. We enjoyed it a lot. The lobby had different activities to spend time with. There are board games, manga, foosball and tennis. Mr. Lee even let us use the guitar. He was very kind to also let us ride from the Snow Monkey park to the train station on our last day.
The hotel sits uphill 950m from the station. A little struggle to walk uphill if you're not fit enough. It's not like I didn't like it, but I just had to take a breather every other 2 minutes or so. I'll just count it as an exercise. Maybe i'll just have to hit the gym more often.

This place must have been something in its prime, but that seems like a while ago. However staff were perfectly friendly and spoke decent English. The rooms were large with a large sitting area. Beds comfortable. Plenty of parking spaces, but then again we seemed to be the only guests that night ( kind of between tourist seasons, mid October). We only stayed one night to visit the Monkey Park in the morning and continue our road trip. Jigokudani is a short drive away. Plenty of restaurants withing walking distance. Breakfast is a Japanese set menu served in a breakfast room at a time of your chosing. Unfortunately we didnt try the onsen so can't comment on that.
The decor is traditional but could use a little tlc and updating, Brown water stains on white curtains and some holes in the shoji (although I wonder if anyone has perfectly intact ones, as the paper is so delicate) .

Loved this hotel - the hotel manager was funny & completely engaging… our kids thought he was hilarious. The location was great, we were picked up from the train station & also a free transfer to The Monkey Park.. rock music & games in the common area, along with a kitchen for guest use were wonderful additions to this eclectic, extremely well preserved time capsule right down to it’s 1970’s decor. We loved the onsite onsen at the end of a long, cold day.
Nothing this place was exactly what we needed…

- great value for the money, in a nice onsen town, close to several activities and sightseeing locations - room is confortable and very spacious, perfect for a family of 4, private bathroom is a plus - all hotel shared spaces are roomy and cosy, a lot of cool amenities (darts, soccer table...) - staff is really nice - good breakfast
Not much, really: bathroom shower doesn't have a lot of water pressure (but you have a nice onsen place), and there is no real offer for dinner (but a lot in town and the hotel does offer a shared kitchen that you can use). Also, onsen was too hot for my personal taste (and for our young kids), but you have other options all around and the public bath space is confortable nonetheless.

I can't say enough good things about the Hotel & Resort Kiyomizu Bozanso! I've never had better service, and I've stayed at a lot of hotels around the world. And it is a perfect place to stay for families. Our primary reason for staying there was its proximity to the Snow Monkey Park, but it turned out to offer so much more. The kids were always entertained with ping pong, foosball, a TV with a large movie selection, and plenty of lounge space. The rooms were very cozy, clean, and spacious. The kids and the adults alike loved the futons, and the bathrooms were well kept too. We were surprised there was an onsen on the main floor, which was very relaxing. But now to the service: The morning we woke up we were surrounded by snow. Unfortunately, the snow chains I had weren't adequate without a jack for the tires. An employee tried for a long time to help me put on the chains, and then drove to get a jack. He somehow managed to get them on after I had quite a struggle. We wouldn't have gotten home without him as it snowed all day. The front desk attendant offered to drive me to the local convenience store to get food for my family as well. I can't believe how willing they were to help my young family as we were far away from home. The staff made their hotel feel like home, and I will always be grateful to them for the that. The fact that my family were able to stay entertained through this long, discouraging ordeal says volumes about how wonderful both the facilities and the service were. THANK YOU!!!

Such a great place. The traditional style room was massive and the beds were very comfortable. It was incredibly peaceful and we loved waking up to mountain views. Great proximity to surrounding restaurants and the station.
As other reviewers have mentioned the onsen was way too hot. But we definitely just weren’t accustomed to that temperature and they’re natural hot springs so not much can be done. My only complaint would be the bathroom. It was a bit old and the water pressure was poor. I’d say if the bathroom was updated it would be 10/10

tatami room was big with 2 mattress and one more room with bed, also a coffee room. at the room was hitter and also ac, which you can switch for hitter. at the shower- for hot water you should wait like 10 min, but it was written on the bathroom wall. also a lot of amenities- staff for, brashes, toothpaste, toothbrush, razors. shampoo, lotion. onsen at the hotel was 1000 yen. nobody was there in evening, so so hot spring water. 15 min drive to the monkey onsen, we had our own car. at the hotel a lot of games, and so beautiful design.
everything was as we expected, just a burgers we eat at the hotel at the bar on the 1st floor in evening was so hard bread, our reception grl cooked for us.

We had a great time staying here. The service provided was beyond our expectations with help with our luggage upstairs, restaurant recommendations and being driven to the train station on our departure. Our rooms were spacious and comfortable and there is a lovely common space with games to play. We were able to enjoy an onsen (which was a pleasant surprise as I have tattoos) and was a great way to wind down after walking to the snow monkey park.

We love especially lobby activities such as table tennis, darts and table football next to the bar :). There is onsen in property, but honestly a bit hot for me to handle ... 42C...my maximum is 40 to survive :)
well, even not used clothes in luggage get specific smell which is connected this type of ryokan style hotels. Don't take it wrong, place is exceptional, but you have to count with different way of accommodation than standard hotels (tatami, wooden stuff around, electrical heater and air conditioning doesn't make humidity evaporate well, etc.)

Great area to visit the snow monkeys and local onsens. There’s lots of games like table tennis and table football to play but no food or breakfast. It was fun to walk to the station area to get something to eat though. One of the owners gave us a lift to drop our bags at the station and on to the snow monkey park. We emailed in advance and he replied saying he could if he had time. He was great, spoke perfect English and was a Star.
