Lovely hosts, free shuttle from and to Yudanaka Station at the beginning and end of your stay. Big, Japanese-style room with tatami mats, futons and a small table. You have a little fridge in the room, hot water, drinking water at the reception, free green tea all day long and free coffee in the morning. The room has a private toilet and there are shared showers. There are various lounges throughout the Ryokan. What we liked best: there are three onsen in the hotel (one for men, one for women and a private one under the open sky. The latter you can use alone, as a couple, family or group of friends and it´s a nice possibility as the other onsen are seperated by gender. You also get a key which gives you access to nine public onsen in the village. There are big bathing towels and Yukata in the hotel. It was a wonderful and unforgettable experience to walk in Yukata and wooden sandals from one bathing house to another and enjoy the hot springs. Daymaruya Ryokan is a perfect place to relax and to escape from daily life. The village is beautiful and peaceful, as well as the surroundings, so I can recommend to go for a walk. You can reach the village from Nagano or Matsumoto. The hosts are always around and very helpful.

We loved our stay and have nothing negative to say.

The couple running this traditional spot was friendly and helpful. I came to see the snow monkeys and they monitored the park's webcam for me, let me know when the monkeys arrived, and drove me right up to the park. One morning the only local breakfast spot was closed and the wife gave me some of the breakfast she had made. They picked me up and dropped me off at the local train station. All of this was no extra charge. I really appreciate their helpfulness and flexibility. The room was large, clean and had a nice sink and toilet area attached. The private onsen on site was lovely.

This was a beautiful Ryokan to stay at. The rooms were big and had an en suite toilet and sink. The hosts were absolutely lovely, picking us up from the station and bringing us to the monkey park, monitoring the camera at the park to make sure there were monkeys for us to see so as not to be disappointed. We had their traditional Japanese breakfast, which was delicious and set us up perfectly for the day. It's just axros the road from onsen Nr. 3 of the 9 onsen to visit, and they give you a key to access them all. I can only recommend this Ryokan. I'll try and return here again.

We had a transfer to the park, from and to the station. On the way back, we even had the chance to spot a Tanuki on the snowy road. The hosts are lovely. From every hotel we've tried, this one was the one I liked the most. It's very simple, so don't expect a fancy room (although it is unexpectedly spacious). That said, the first floor is beautifuly decorated. The price was surprisingly good compared to the other ryokans in the region. Please be mindful about heavy luggage. There are no elevators to the second floor. The location allows you to access every major spot in Shibu Onsen very easily. I suggest you ask about the story of the place and get along with the owners!!

The pillow is a bit too hard for us westerners but the futon was so soft it didnt matter. There was a hint of a smell in the room but not a big deal either.

Shibu Onsen is this quaint onsen town with 9 public baths. People would visit each of these Soto-yu dressed in their yukatas. Daymura Ryokan fits perfectly in this world with its traditional architecture. The ryokan is run by a husband and wife team which manages to keep the whole place spotlessly clean. The room was large enough for up to 6 people and had a balcony with a view of the street below. The room only had an adjoining toilet with baths either taken at the "his" and "hers" baths on the first floor or at the various Soto-Yus. During our visit, we were the only guest and the owner offered to fetch us to and from the Snow Monkey Park and also to the train station. Interestingly we found out that the owner learned to speak English from YouTube.

Nice location to experience the public onsens (but the properties own onsen was actually nicer so extra points) and to visit the snow money park. The owner was kind enough to accommodate an early visit to the snow monkey park for me and then take me to the station for a late morning train. Greatly appreciated that I was able to fit everything in :) It was snowing when I was there but the room heating was sufficient to keep me warm :)

Was not aware that the town shops and eateries closed around 2 so I was very hungry with no food to find on arrival. Luckily a store was opened where I bought a cup noodle and some chips. A good piece of info to have if you have a long travel day like I had prior to arrival. Eat en route!

Location fantastic, the back door leads to the street with the 9 onsens. Slippers are provided for indoors, worden slippers can be found by the backdoor. The owners are lovely people! The husband aka driver takes you everywhere with good advices on the way, the wife runs the ryokan with precision. They are both quite good at english and clearly prepared for forehand tourists. They show simple maps that lay out the onsens and restaurants, and drive you to and from the monkeypark (at the time you like, you can sent them a message and they will come take you back to the hotel). The rooms are spacious and everything you need is inside (private washingsink and western style toilet, easy safe, table), though the showers are inside the private onsens (1 indoor for women, 1 indoor for men, 1 outdoor mixed but for one person or group at a time - you can go inside it the key is available and lock it). The outdoor onsen is the best of the whole town...!! Quirky decor finishes the experience.

Nothing, it was a great experience!

The couple running the Ryokan is absolutely cute, forthcoming and accommodating, providing a shuttle to/from the station and to the monkey forest, and they tried their best at speaking english. The room was spacious, traditional with Yukatas and the Ryokan provided a female, male and private bath, as well as tea, coffee and a map to find around. The town Yudanaka is small and lovely with an amazing sunset. Overall loved the old, traditional vibe.

The windows were hidden behind curtains and could have been a bit more inviting for some fresh air and light into the room.

The owner and his wife were very sweet and warm. He kindly led me to the snow monkey mountain and gave me great recommendations for food, he also picked me up from the station and gave me a ride on my way back. I didn't make use of the coffe machine but the owner lend me basic kitchen utensils without issue. For someone that moves alone often, such gestures are precious. They warn visitors that the ryokan is very traditional and may not suit everyone's tastes, but precisely because of this I was able to enjoy a unique living experience. The Ryokan has two onsens and gosh they were sooo relaxing. The accomodation accepts many payment methods, which is helpful and practical. Make sure to bring along cash for other venues, like local caffes, souvenirs, sweets and Ramen places Totally recommend!

The last night there was a family that was super noisy, I don't think the owners are responsible for that, but for people traveling alone that are and enjoy quiet times, is good to keep in mind such situations may actually happen. Besides that, everything cool. Definitely enjoy the onsens as much as possible

A nice small ryokan run by a family. The onsen is a good size and there was a private one outside which you could use. They had kimono and yukata to use while you explored the onsen in the town. The rooms were very large and had en-suites. They had a coffee and hot water machine downstairs to use and lots of information about the area. There is free parking during your stay if you let them know in advance. The man who greets you is very friendly!

We had picked a breakfast option, but on arrival we were told it was only for one morning of our three night stay that had breakfast included. It was a shame as that's why we had paid extra to have breakfast every day before we went skiing.
