Amazing owners, super nice and friendly and very helpful on everything ! Lodge steps away from the slope and right next to a rental shop. Food is very good and handmade.

We booked the apartment which is located in the hotel. As others have stated, there is no wifi in the room, you have to go the lobby area. We paid for a mobile wifi router for our stay in Japan so it wasn't an issue. Room is small as stated, however we are three 6ft males and we managed fine. Just meant we needed to be tidy. Beds were big enough and comfy. The location is excellent, a short walk to the first lift. The hotel facilities are great, which you can use as part of the apartment stay. The lodge owner is friendly and their restaurant is great.

10/10 service, the staff were amazing! Abbey & Mark the owners are such beautiful people. We had a group of 6 friends & they made us feel so welcome from the day we got there. The food is very good, the breakfast included is big and so yummy! The location was amazing as well, you can walk down the road and you’re on the slopes. A short walk in the other direction takes you to more food. Our whole group would definitely visit again & we highly recommend staying. It was honestly the best stay, we miss it already!

Breakfast each morning was amazing. Perfect way to start the day on the slopes. A very short and easy walk to the slopes. Mark and Abe are wonderful hosts and Abe is a wonder to watch in the kitchen! The convenience and delicious food made it difficult for us to want to venture out! The staff are all very friendly and kept the shared bathrooms spotless - thank you. Shout out to Colin for his musical performance on one night of our stay. Looking forward to our next visit!

We stayed in the apartment which is located at a hotel near the lodge. It was quite spaceous, clean, newly renovated, cosy and had a kitchen and strong wifi. It's actually great for a longer stay! The hotel offers a free shuttle to the Madarao Kogen Hotel and you can use the onsen in either hotel. You can get on the slopes from the apartment. There are quite a few excellent restaurants near the Kogen hotel. Our host was very friendly and also picked us up from Iiyama Station as we arrived late in the evening and dropped us off at another ski resort on one of the days. We'd happily stay again! One night we also ate at the lodge, the food was excellent and there was a fun vibe.

If you book the apartment, just be aware that breakfast is not included. No supermarkets in Madarao, so bring lots of things to eat and drink with you! (Or just eat out on the slopes / in town and stock up in the small hotel convenience stores).

Note: Stayed in the Separated Apartment The location is SUPERB. Literally ski-in/ski-out. Apartment also comes with access to the hotel's onsen, which is quite spacious and includes a sauna and outdoor pool. Apartment can comfortably sleep four people and includes a well-stocked kitchenette.

THERE IS NO WIFI IN THE APARTMENT. Be prepared to burn through your cell data or go sit down in the lobby. Makes spending long periods in the apartment after a long day of skiing difficult.

The owners and their daughter were all extremely welcoming and had no problems dealing with any little queries that we had. The staff were also all very kind and attentive. The food in the restaurant was else very nice for both breakfast and dinner! We went for a 3-day snowboarding trip and the lodge is next door to the slope, so walking there and back every day was super easy. And last but certainly not least is Jimmy, the lodge cat! I'll be back in the summer to take him for a walk through the forest!

*Not really a negative point* Maybe the dining room could use an extra table to squeeze everybody in, but we were more that comfortable sitting downstairs to eat in the lounge room. The young gentleman that waited on our table was very cheery too and had no problem running up and down the stairs to bring us our orders!

Absolutely friendly owners and were very helpful during our stay. The location was amazing as it was 3 minute walk away to the Madarao ski resort. The beds were comfy, the showers and toilets were clean and it was convenient that there were multiple toilets. The breakfast served was great and they also had a nice selection of meals for dinner. A washing machine and a dryer was available too at the property. Overall great experience staying here and Mark and Mayuko were very pleasant.

This is probably a very minor inconvenience but I wish the showers had stronger pressure, as well as maybe a rack placed higher to hold the soap and shampoo.

Staff was very friendly! They made our meals and gave us a ride to the bus station. They also tried to lend us skiing equipment, but my brothers size 13 foot didn’t fit their equipment. So Mark said we could get supplies at the MADARAO resort and they would have his size. The location of the resort was optimal for a pleasant skiing experience. About a 5-10 minute walk to the mountain.

Thoroughly enjoyed our family stay at the Madarao Mountain Lodge. Used it as a very convenient base for 3 nights to ski the Madarao, Nozawa and Myoko resorts. Good atmosphere / good dining / good pricing and good location. Proximity to the slope is a brisk 1 minute walk. Highly recommend and will be back!
