The hotel is a bit old and the quality of food is just so so. Of course, the food served had a lot of vegetables, which is good. The view of this hotel should be very nice but it was a foggy and the visibility is so low just 20M to 30M.

A bit old for the hotel room and its facilities unless you are staying at the newly decorated rooms.

the property is very beautiful and it is right next to the lake, our rooms are facing the lake and the view is spectacular! star gazing is amazing in the room too! the breakfast is very delicious and is very large in portion. overall we are very satisfied!

the onsen water temperature is not as hot as I expected. but it’s very personal to be honest.

The look of the hotel and the traditional-styled rooms is fabulous. The spa areas are very nice and relaxing, with hot baths overlooking the lake. There is also a shop in the hotel where you can buy your own yukata. The food in the restaurant and the restaurant manager are spectacular! We notified in advance that there are two vegetarians in our company, and they composed a lovely multi-course dinner and breakfast for us in place of the standard menu (which also received the greatest of praise from the meat eater in our company). All in all, a very memorable stay!

There was quite some confusion upon our arrival. The receptionist that welcomed us and introduced us to the facilities had difficulties in communicating in English. When you arrive, you are presented with a paper written only in Japanese that turns out to be your drink order for the evening, which you pay for upon departure. However, because of the language barrier, we felt that it was unclear whether dinner was included for us or an additional charge and it took quite some time before we could clarify everything. Ultimately, everything went smoothly but there was an initial worry. Since there is an information sheet in English for the public bath/spa, simply adding an information sheet in English for all the rest would take care of this issue.

They’re spot on with all the things that you’d want from a highly reputable hotel. The cleanness, great location with incredible scenery, amazing food and not to mention the ‘out-of-this-world’ service quality. For the price, I was very satisfied with the Ryokan experience at Azumaen. I certainly would recommend to others.

I stayed on the second floor, which offers the simplest tatami room. It is a out of date looking but I’d assume that’s why the price is reasonable and nothing was broken nor dirty.

This was a beautiful place to stay. My room was huge with a lovely view of the lake. So quiet - all I could hear were the ducks and gentle rain. The staff were very welcoming. I would have stayed longer if I could.

The location is superb - watching the sun set from our room was spectacular. The room was vast by Japanese standards. The hotel is quite dated but in a charming way.
