Exceptional stay! Wife and I stayed for 2 nights. Inn itself was well maintained, not a single stain to be found. The grounds were beautiful, our room was overlooking a small river and every morning it was a scene straight out a movie, made even better when it was drizzling on the second day. The public onsen was tattoo friendly but we opted for the private option as we wanted to bathe together. The private onsen was easy to book and really relaxing (temp was moderate which is right up our alley as other onsen that we’ve been to were always scalding hot). Best part of the experience was the service by Yukari who was the co-owner of the inn together with her husband. She spoke excellent English which made our time there much more convenient. She took time to tell us about the history of the inn, give local recommendations as well as explain the different dishes at mealtimes. You can really tell that she took pride in their traditions and history. She was also really quick to attend to our needs (changed our hard pillows to softer ones, cleaned up a bunch of bugs that were crowding around the lights). She even chased us down when we were leaving to give us parting snacks!

Absolutely amazing and thoughtful service from the lady who attended to us (she knew we were fans of the copperware from gyokusendo and brought out her personal wedding cups that were gifted to her for us to try). Every single thing was so carefully thought out and crafted, food was amazing, waking up to the sound of waters was amazing, the beautiful compound for us to walk around was great. We only wish we could have more time to spend in the ryokan. The massage is a MUST try - it’s corrective and helped straighten our misalignments.
Nothing at all.

The snowy landscape of the river and mountain slope at this ryokan is beautiful beyond words. The view from our River-view room is awesome and totally worth it. Madam boss is very hospitable and there was a great variety of food at every meal. The beef shabu shabu was melt in the mouth beef and portions are generous! The public onsen was nice especially the outdoor one though a little small but most of the time, you have it to yourself.
Nothing at all.

Nestled in an idyllic setting in the mountains of Sanjo, surrounded by running brooks, natural landscapes, good onsen baths and no neighbors. Our western style room is modern, spacious and beds are comfortable. Meals are excellent and delicious especially the mountain vegetables, rice prepared with spring water and good selections of sake are offered. Our hostess Yukari san is wonderful, very hospitable and speaks fluent English; she saw all our needs during our stay there were met. When we expressed interests in visiting the Kiyotsu Gorge and the Saifuku-ji temple carvings, she arranged an English speaking guide to take us. We had a terrific experience there. If anyone considered having a restful R&R time in Japan, I would highly recommend a stay at this ryokan. Yes, they can do pickups and drop off at the train station if you don’t have a car.

This Ryokan is so beautiful and peaceful. You have to drive a bit from the city center. However, it was well worth it. When we got to our accommodation, the staff was already expecting us, she knew where we came from , and her English was really good. She sat us down for our check-in process. It felt like we paid a million dollars for this kind of customer service. She took us through our check-in process, dinner time, booked our private onsen, told us a bit about the Ryokan, booked breakfast time, and then she took us right up to our room. Our room was a riverside view, which was so amazing. Our food for dinner and breakfast was the best we had compared to other hotels around the world we've tried so far. This was all done in our own private dining room. Our private onsen also had a great view. I can not say enough good things about this place. We will come back here again when possible.

Hospitality of the host Great meals using only local produce Private dining rooms Good hot spring Heritage building Beautiful surroundings Room was newly renovated
Baths could do with some upgrading and better cleanliness More signage could be put up in the roads within 5km of the ryokan to guide visitors to the location

I am not sure if there are any words that would express how amazing this place is. The hospitality, architecture, surroundings… it was a fairy tale! We will be definitely visiting again! If you are looking for a real Japanese experience, outside from all the crowd, that’s the place to be ! Truly, place taken from the Miyazaki’s dream !

Excellent environment right next to nature with views of the river and forest. Ms Yukari was extremely hospitable and took great care of us. The other staff were also kind and friendly. The room was clean and had a lot of character.(Japanese style room) Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and consisted of fresh local ingredients. The private bath was comfortable and ideal for couples or group of friends and free to reserve.

Great ambience with lovely garden and river at the back. Room is ensuite , other than public onsen bath, guest can also enjoy private onsen bath. Meals are excellent, you can tell a lot of work goes into menu design. The owner also made us feel very welcomed.
We absolutely loved every moment there.

A perfect Onsen in a lush Forrest next to the Sumon river. The different Onsen with public and private ones are fantastic, all of them with outside bath. The rooms are nicely designed and renovated with balcony and all needed amenities. The food (Kaiseki) is delicious, the host is very helpful (in English if required).
Nothing to mention.
