Location is fantastic, literally in the train station, and right next door - literally, there's an adjoining door! - to Ponshukan, which is recommended for its sake-tasting 'bar' and local shopping. A twin room is small, but very clean and perfectly comfortable so long as you're not looking to hang out in it all day. If you're arriving in Niigata late or leaving early, and don't want the inconvenience of traveling between the station and your accommodation then Hotel Mets can't really be beaten.

Comfy bed, spacious room, good breakfast and the location. Hotel lobby connects directly with the famous Ponshukan, it’s integrated into the CoCo Lo complex meaning that you are in short walking distance to restaurants, high end local gift shops, convenient stores, pharmacy, bakeries, Starbucks, JR East ticket office, Niigata train station. Outside the CoCo Lo complex ( grand opening in 2024), 15 minutes walk to the Bandai bridge and countless eateries nearby.

Conveniently located. We usually stay at a different hotel when we come to Niigata, but this time the South Exit location was a great fit for our schedule. Nice and comfy bed, great mattress, large enough room compared to other business hotels in Japan. Lived the price-value balance. Amazing breakfast with a focus on a local produce. Will definitely stay again.

The selection of drinks at vending machines could have been better. Apart from that the family was more than happy with the stay.

I’ve stayed here about 10 times. For a three star budget property, you can’t beat the location and price. Rooms are tiny, which is expected, so I almost always book the room that is 300sq ft. Breakfast is delicious. Front desk staff always help me coordinate the luggage delivery service to NRT.

It’s a little outdated, but again, this is a budget hotel, not the Mandarin Oriental lol.

The hotel is part of the station complex, so is convenient not just for transport but also for shops, restaurants and bars that, as is usual in Japan, are either part of the complex or in the vicinity. If you like or are interested in trying sake, the hotel has a door into Ponshukan, which for 500 yen allows you five (small) cups of local brands out of a choice of over 100. For a relatively small room, the bathroom is of a decent size, with a powerful shower.

We always stay at this JR hotel when we are in Niigata. It is very easy to find from the train station and is very close to several shops we enjoy going to. Our room was very spacious - very easy to relax in and wind down after a day of traveling by train. Everything was clean, the beds were comfortable and the breakfast was good!

I’ve stayed many times. You can’t be the location and convenience of this hotel as it’s connected to Niigata station and lots of food options close by. Love the breakfast and it’s such a good deal. Front desk staff are always helpful and cheerful.

Nothing was bad, but this is an older, budget friendly hotel so keep that in mind and level your expectations to ensure you have a great stay!

the location was strategic, it’s within the station. easy to locate and all the good restaurant and transportation all within vicinity. convenient. the hotel is very clean as well, good soundproofing and practical for a small space. the sake vending machine museum is just one level down from the hotel and the famous restaurant too

The bed was very comfortable. The hotel's location is very convenient for people who plan to travel with public transportation.

In the shower room there wasn't any fan, making the humidity after a shower very high. The buffet breakfast could benefit from more variety.

The room was very big, much bigger than I had expected after travelling around Japan for two weeks. The location could not be better - connected to the JR station with easy access to several convenience stores and restaurants. Comes with the amenities expected at a Japanese hotel.
