Our room offers a very nice view of the Matsushima bay area. We could see sunrise from our room. The entire place is very clean and the staff are very warm and friendly. We also like the outdoor foot bath as it allows one to relax and enjoy the view. Seat mat and towel are provided, making it very convenient for us to use.
The dinner was not the most memorable among all the ryokans we stayed at so far. While they use premium ingredients, we found that the way or style they chose to prepare each dish was not compatible with the ingredients used. Breakfast was slightly better. We were also slightly disappointed that the private onsen was fully booked even though we checked in rather on time. Only the female public bath (on day of check-in) offers open air onsen. It will be better if the place offers massage chairs for relaxing.

Our room had a picturesque view of the bay. The outdoor private onsen was superb. It's a short walk from the property to the red bridge connecting to Fukuura island, and also a walking distance to the Entsuin temple complex. Japanese breakfast was delicious. We also enjoyed the outdoor foot bath in the evening. It was an overall lovely ryokan with English-speaking staff.
Wish they had more private onsen rooms for us to choose from. There was barely any restaurant within the property's vicinity open at night. So unless you drive your own car or have booked dinner at the ryokan in advance, better to bring some meals in.

The view the room was outstanding! The staff members went above and beyond to help us. My wife has celiac disease and needed special care to be taken with meals and they did an amazing job of providing 2 very large and intricate safe meals each day with no issue.
In brief—food options for kids are limited. While our food was fantastic and varied, there was limited meal support from the kitchen for our 2 and a half year old. They offered rice and miso soup for her—which was fine the first time but she refused it the second and third days. My only suggestion is that there should be some more basic meal options for kids to have some choice—like fresh veggies and fruits, perhaps noodles to choose from. There were lots of families there so I think it would benefit many guests.

What a fantastic place to stay. Incredible staff, food, onsen, views, rooms! I loved it. I ate one of the most memorable meals of my life, and loved the tatami room. Private onsen maybe wasn't worth it considering hardly anyone was at the others when I was there, but it was very nice and no regrets! I do wish I had got the slow train from Sendai instead of the fast train, to see the seaside and arrive better situated in relation to the hotel. But that's my fault, but the hotel's! It had great access for some lovely sights, and when the rain started, I just enjoyed the onsen.
The pillow. But then, I hate most pillows in western hotel rooms too, for different reasons. I guess I'm always searching for that Goldilocks pillow.

People mostly come to this town to see the bay. This was the most expensive hotel of our trip and it was worth it. A large room with a view over the bay allowed us to watch the sunrise with fishing boats heading out against the silhouettes of pine covered islands. Room was Japanese style, shoes off as you enter, with futon beds and a low table. Well designed and decorated, with Japanese casual summer clothing (Yukata) to wear. We also had a private onset (like a hot tub) with a view over the bay to watch the sunset. Breakfast was a 3 tier box of delights, a bit like a tasting menu. Super tasty and with considerable talent devoted to its presentation. Staff could not have been more helpful. Advising on restaurants, arranging taxis etc. We felt pampered.
To stay longer.

We loved our room with a beautiful view to the little islands. Everything was superb organised, the people so helpful and friendly. We liked especially the nice driver who picked us up from the station an even run after me when I forget my phone at the reception. Cheers to him! :) The room was perfect, we slept on tatami mats. And so was the japanese breakfast. We highly recommend! The private bath is gorgeous, but also the public Onsen within the hotel. You get a nice kimono in your room to were within the house. The nice welcome with matcha tea and the drink buffet during the afternoon is a very nice service. We learned the hard way that one have to reserve dinner well in advance. You cannot have it spontaneously. But we got very nice help by the receptionist as he called a restaurant where we rushed by taxi to be in time for the last order. It was a great stay!

The customer service was excellent and everyone was absolutely kind. I enjoyed the view the most and the private bath. I enjoyed watching the sunrise and it was beautiful to see. My family enjoyed sleeping on the tatami floor with futon style bed. It was very comfortable. My daughter enjoyed getting complementary drinks at the bar and loved the outdoor foot bath. I have recommended this place to many of my friends and we are sure they will enjoy their stay as we have.
There was nothing I didn’t enjoy. It was perfect!

The view from bedroom!!! There’s no real need to leave the room. Massage chair in bedroom! Top quality meals - very Japanese - excellent range - we loved the wagyu beef. Matsushima is gorgeous and definitely worth a visit.
Discuss your requests beforehand (if you have any dietary restrictions for example), if not, expect to go with their dining timings, check in, pickup/dropoff schedules, onsen usage, etc.

Wonderful spot with incredible views. Very comfortable and the staff was very helpful and attentive. The welcome tea and snack was a lovely way to start our stay. Being able to reserve the private onsen was an absolute highlight!
Nothing! Only suggestion might be to have written instructions for first time visitors on how to put on a yukata and perhaps onsen etiquette(though there’s always YouTube and google!).

I can not say enough about this hotel. First off, location location location. The views of matsushima bay and the little islands were breath taking. Now add the ability to soak in an onsen and enjoy those views? Phenomenal. The staff were next level and beyond attentive. From the welcome tea to the seven course dinner and amazing breakfast I felt well taken care of throughout my stay. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
