Parking at guest house and walk to bus terminal to Kamikochi. Cheaper than stay in Kamikochi national park. Open air onsen very hot.

Would highly recommend this ryokan if you're looking for a traditional experience. It is family run, and really feels like you're staying in a family home while completely having your own space and privacy. The family is lovely (especially the grandma!) and the facilities are clean and comfortable. The location is fantastic and we also loved the outdoor onsen - it was snowing the night we used it which was magical to experience. This place exceeded our expectations and we loved it!

Location is ideal! We came for a night after a day of hiking in kamikochi, there are 3 private Onsens free to use- very clean and cozy. The outside Onsen is amazing!

A very nice traditional ryokan, with very good amenities. I liked especially a couple of indoor public baths and 1 outdoor. All of them can be used as 'private', e.g. for families/friends, a very nice option. The one outside - on the 2nd floor - which I used twice, in the evening and early morning - has a view on the town and on the neighboring mountains. The rooms are clean, have A/C, TV, fully ok. The whole experience was very good, also the 'self check-in' procedure, no issue here. I actually met the owners, they don't speak English, but as everything was absolutely fine - no problems here. There is no food option in the ryokan, but tea/coffee is available in the common room. There is a shop just in front of the ryokan, open 8AM-8PM, so one can buy some stuff there. Several restaurants are nearby, I used twice the izakaya/restaurant ~8-10 minutes away, close to the open-air onsen (the small one, near the old 'community' house, go there, an interesting story, serves a museum, go also to the 2nd floor by the ladder). The large onsen Hirayu no mori is also very-very good. Overall, would definitely come back there, highly recommended.

I think everything was fine, especially considering the price/quality ratio.

It's 2nd time I stayed in this place, and again - only the best impression! Nice hosts, albeit no English at all, but as I knew all procedures, it was easy to operate. Clean room, comfortable futon, A/C, TV, everything is good. One can use private open-air bath (if it's not occupied). Close to the bus station (5 minutes walk), a convenient store is just across the road. wifi in the room was good. they have a small kitchen/common area, with a fridge/microwave oven. tea/coffee is provided free, pasties in the morning also free. NICE place, highly recommended, would stay there again.

n/a, everything was fine

This place is beyond incredible. Located a few minutes walk from the bus station, the house is traditional and lovely. theres an outdoor bath made of wood in the top floor, which you can lock after you and have full privacy. there's also another 2 lovely indoor baths at the entrance floor, where you can also be alone. shared kitchen with free coffee and tea, the rooms are super cozy and the views are breathtaking. they even give you wooden blocks you can write wishes and leave at the shrine not too far from there, for free. Would definitely come back!

nothing :)

Traditional house. Beautiful inside. We were given a bunk room all to ourselves. Toilet on same floor. Showers downstairs. Kitchen with good cooking facilities. Shuttle bus 3 times early morning (7, 8 and 9am) to station. Also late afternoon three times but didn't know times or where and when until we got to guesthouse

Location was a bit out of town. You could walk in 15/20 mins but difficult to go uphill with luggage. Taxi from station 1000 yen Beds had what looked like a regular mattress but felt like a hard board.

probably the best stay i’ve had in japan… traditional ryokan with futon beds. robes are provided and you have access to three private onsens (hot tubs).. just lock the door behind. good facilities as far as tea and coffee goes.. only a short walk from the hirayu onsen bus terminal which takes you to both kamikochi and takayama in a short time.

no one could speak english at the home.. this wasn’t really an issue though as we used google translate with the owners and they were very friendly. we left our bags after checking out so we could hike for the day and they were very understanding. self check-in too because of the language barrier was very easy.

The guesthouse and the private onsen in the main building are the best! It is such a place that you can have a chill time with your friends and family. The basic facilities were provided and there were also facilities for those we truly wish for a relaxing stay. In the morning, there was also breads that you can have as breakfast at the lounge, and they tasted wonderful. We all agreed that this is one of the best hotels we have ever visited and we would even rate this place 100 out of 10 if possible.

One of the most scenic stays I've ever had. This location truly makes you feel less like a tourist in a hotel and actually integrated with Japanese culture. Despite the owners not speaking any English we had no problems with checking in or asking questions. The baths were phenomenal.

Very little was wrong with our stay, the walls are a LITTLE thin, so sometimes you'll hear conversation if other patrons are being a bit loud but it was incredibly minor to the whole experience. It never once felt too loud. If you're coming for the purpose of going to Takayama (whether for the Spring/Autumn festival or not) you do have to take a 45 minute bus ride, while that didn't bother my travel group, it may not be ideal for everyone. However, the Hirayu Onsen area provided plenty of options anyways.
