The room looked bit old but was spacious, clean and with private bathroom. The hotel is just 3min walk from the bus station. No breakfast available (which was actually fine with us). You can buy coffee for 100jpy at reception and buy some food from the convenience store just in front of the hotel. Otherwise, you can find a large coffee shop right next the bus station. Also, the large outdoor onsen was closed for maintenance at the time we stayed. Instead, we accessed the small one, which was lovely! The lady from reception adjusted the temperature for us, as it was too hot and the experience was really nice!

We stayed in January, which is a cold month (we reached -13C at night). It always felt bit chilly in the room, even with the heater on. Despite of this, it was okay at sleep time, as the duvets did keep us warm. This was the most expensive stay in my 3-week travel in Japan and I think that the value for the money isn't that good. However, it was one of the cheapest when compared to similar hotels in the same town.

very friendly staff. super clean. comfortable Japanese beds. great location. Would recommend for a basic stay.

the private outdoor onsen was never available and the private inside ones were very dated. For 700yen go to bathe in the beautiful outdoor public Hirayu Mori Onsen.

This hotel was beyond my expectation. Great value for money as you get unlimited free private onzen (if the room is vacant you can use the onzen). The room, location, staff, views and everything was perfect. The staffs were very nice. The receptionist introduced me to restaurants around the area (since not a lot of them open at late hours she recommended Rokuju which I find very delicious) and provided me a detailed map of places to eat and also gave a tour of the 4 private onzens and other accommodation. Also, the shampoo, body soap and hand soap of this hotel is soo good better than 5 star hotels.

The pillow was a bit small. It felt like it was cushioned with small semi-hard balls (maybe its a traditional ryokan pillow?) but still surprisingly comfortable.

- Great onsen facilities, and we were positively surprised to find private onsen places in the hotel instead of shared ones - Onsen use regardless gender and without reservation - Short walk from the bus station - Great and spacious room which made us feel both at home and within the Japanese experience sleeping on the floor and with Japanese lounge clothing - Super friendly staff, coffee, drinks and food can be purchased there - Toilet and shower in the room was separated - When checking-in we asked the staff if we could use the onsen with tattoos, which they allowed us - Friendly staff, always willing to help out - Leave luggage to go to kamikochi - We enjoyed the tranquil music in the common areas - Usually we don’t spend that amount of money for a night but it was totally worth it

we purchased two times coffee but it was only available during the reception time, we would have wished to not depend on the opening hours

This hotel is in a great location. It’s very close to the bus terminal and a few little local restaurants. The rooms are very clean and the private Onsen’s are amazing. The staff are so kind and caring. I lost my purse and didn’t realise till 1 hour before our bus was due to come to take us back to Tokyo. Suu Nii Taa came with me to the local streets and helped me track it down. It had fallen out of my pocket at a local restaurant the day before and It had been handed into the police station. Needless to say I managed to get it back (with all my cards, drivers licence, cash and bus tickets) and just make my bus on time. Thank you Tabist staff and Suu Nii Taa in particular.

The place is great. Even outside it looks little old but inside the room and everything look clean and nice. If I have change I would like to come back here for sure. Also this is the great place to stop by Kamikōchi. Stay here at less 2 night would be excellent.

Actually everything is good. Even they don't have breakfast service, they stated right away when we checked in and the breakfast around the area is easy to find. The only concerned thing is that (for other hotels in the area too), there is only one mini mart that close around 6.00 PM so after that you can not find anything. There are some restaurants but still if there're mini mart around open little late will be very good. And other mini mart have to drive away kinda far. So if you want to stay around this area, please get yourself ready for important stuffs, snacks and drinks.

The Tabist is inside the heart of Hirayu Onsen, near everything. The dinner in the Hirayucan, the hotel in the other side of the street, was amazing! The snow is really high in mid-December and the hot springs are outstanding.

There is no transfer from the bus stop to the Tabist, your baggages will be in trouble when snow arrives. One simple solution is a small luggage trolley to help the guests from the Tabist to the bus stop. A delivery service is a must-have. Also, the taxi informations and fares/fees applicable. The sandals are not a fit for big feet, also the pajamas for fat people.

I loved staying at the Tabist, this was already my second time here and I wouldn't consider any other place in Hirayu. The Onsen's are private which is AWESOME! There are 4 of them, 2 outdoor and 2 indoor and we never had to wait for one to be free. If your plan is to go to Kamikochi but you were shoked of the high hotel prices there, this is THE place you want to stay at. It's a short 25 minute bus ride into Kamikochi, the walk up to the bus station takes 5' and buses run every 30' from 6:30am or so onwards. The last bus is around 5pm or so, if you miss it, there's always taxis (easily done with the money you save staying here instead of in Kamikochi itself).

Dinner option would be great but no big deal, everything else was perfect

The outdoor onsens were really so beautiful, pleasant and comforting; also a great system: no need for reservation, simply show up - with two indoor and two outdoor onsens and less than 16 rooms, plus request not to use onsen longer than 30 minutes, you've got a fair chance to get the onsen at the time of your liking. The atmosphere throughout the hotel is pleasant, including small japanese patio garden. Decor of tatami rooms very nice - though with a few water stains; its size was amazing; bathroom OK. There's no on-site breakfast or dinner; however, they do have vending machines, offer UFO cup noodles and microwave to help you out in need. Right across the street is a shop with a small supermarket section, sufficient to help you out with your breakfast and lunch needs plus drinks, so no huge need to bring much food from out of town. Also nice restaurants in near vicinity - just take care they do close VERY early in the evening. Short walk from and to bus station - also here, take note you'd mostly need reservations for your Tobu buses getting into and out of Okuhida onsen.

As this was our first time sleeping on futons, it was a bit hard for us, and the double futons still were a bit too hard for us. Resolved this by also lying on the nice blanket.

The property was beautiful with its own garden in the lobby and 4 private onsens - 2 indoor and 2 outdoor. No reservation for the onsen was needed, just flip the sign to occupied and it’s yours. We stayed for two nights and didn’t have to wait either night to use the onsens, and since they were private tattoos are perfectly fine, which was relieving for us! We got a room with our own bathroom. The rooms were beautiful and spacious - plus we had a great view of the mountains. The futons were double padded which was very comfortable. The property was also conveniently located a short walk from the bus station, with shops and resteraunts nearby.

Nothing to mention.
