Check-in: I used Didi to get from the main SMA bus terminal to Casa del Abuelo. You can easily find it on Didi/Uber/Google Maps. The host greeted me after I knocked on the door, plus we were in good communication throughout my three-night stay via Whatsapp. Clima: I knew that there was no clima, but the fan in the room kept my fat gringo ass cool :) Location: It's very easy to walk to Centro Historico, convenience stores, restaurants, etc. But - for long-term visitors- I didn't find full supermarkets. Bed: I found the bed and linens to be quite comfortable, given the cost of my stay.

Noise: The doors have zero sound-proofing, so it was very easy to hear outside noise. This wasn't street noise because the door faces the small courtyard. But if there are people in this courtyard, they'll sound like roommates! Furniture: The size of my room was perfect for me as a solo traveler. Yet there wasn't a desk, or even a simple chair. Just the bed, bedside table, and a sort of large shelf.

Superb location, great value for money, comfortable bed, extra blankets ++, showers were also just fine.

Very poor wifi connection in the room made it at times impossible to use the internet.

The property itself is in a beautiful setting, the building is full of character and very reasonably priced. The roof terrace has a great sunset view. Our host was absolutely wonderful, offered us breakfast at a great price too. Nice friendly dog as well. 10 minute walk from both the centre and a lovely nature reserve (a must see if you’re in San Miguel)

Cute room and proximity to city center.

Facilities (bathroom and wifi connection) can be improved. Noisy guests next door.

My room was on the terrace, I had the only terrace room! Very spacious, small fridge and coffee pot. Got my clothes washed here in the premises, very convenient.

A little bit of a steep hill, about one and half block, not bad.

Wonderful staff and I was obsessed with the terrace. Great value for the money, just do not expect reliable wifi. Really enjoyed my breakfasts and the bed is comfortable and clean. They include a fan and towel. Paulina is the best and they have a super sweet doggo on the property.

nice exterior areas, lots of plants. good shower, short walk to get downtown

rooms don’t smell clean. WiFi is fine on first 2 rooms but at the last room that I got first I was not able to connect. The bathroom is outside and the first night I was there the way to it was completely dark, I had to use my phone flash light. All you get is a bed with hard pillows and a table, there is no place to heat up water for tea or coffee.

November 2022

The room was comfortable enough (I don’t mind a hard mattress) & was cleaned thoroughly during my stay by staff. The shared toilet was also clean & there was hot water in the morning for a shower (maybe I just got lucky?) There is a roof terrace with views over over the town, including church spires, and a further roof accessible by ladder.

There is nothing on the street to indicate that this is a place of lodging and not somebody’s house. Two people helped me out as they must have spotted me walking up & down, looking puzzled. The first person (another tourist shouting down from a roof terrace) reckoned it was further up the street, then a local guy put me right by directing me towards a girl who lives next door. The girl was not much help with me checking in, however, as there is no check in procedure to speak of. I spoke to the proprietor on my phone through a local lad who kindly helped out as my Spanish isn’t great. The proprietor at first stated that I was only booked in for one night, as I had cancelled the second (not true), and that in any case, there was not a room for me (?!?) She then asked if I would be willing to share a room for the first night with an older couple from New Zealand. Although the couple were O.K. with this, I politely declined. Eventually the New Zealand couple moved into a room downstairs & gave their room to a party of three Mexicans & I was given a room downstairs, so there was in fact a room which was vacant the whole time. Messy, and I missed two hours of the Revolution Day street celebrations (which I had been looking forward to) because of this. The proprietor needs to buck her ideas up & try to be a bit more professional with her booking system. It was understandable that accommodation options were tight with the fiesta taking place, but there was really no call for the confusion which happened. The room was overpriced for what it is, as it was hotel prices for a room with a shared toilet.
