Staff, rooms are gorgeous, all different

We have been staying at the Augusta for over 10 years. It's a magnificent hotel; however, the breakfasts used to be exceptional, but they have decreased in quality over the years. They used to have wonderful breads, pancakes, and cakes, but now the breakfast is, well, meh. On this particular trip, the heating was turned off, so the room was freezing, the windows were open, and it took two days to heat up. The staff are great, the hotel is spectacular, but the cost-savings are noticeable. We will always try to stay at the Augusta, however, as it is, by far, the best hotel in Ijmuiden.

The hotel is a lovely mixture of period features and modern facitities, and manages to blend impressive with cosy. Downstairs is a public room, great for chatting with a friend or computer working with a coffee. and a restaurant which I didn't try, but have been told by others is very good. My room was small (and advertised as such), but had a very modern bathroom, a desk and, important for me, plugs by the bed, all of which continued the period/modern feel. The breakfast was excellent, and even included bacon and eggs - unusual for Holland. The hotel staff were very considerate and helpful, even helping me upstairs with my luggage.

The only really negative was unfortunately a big one - the bed had a mattress topper that wasn't tied down, so gradually slipped sideways, and I felt I was falling out of bed most of the night. The manager tried to fix it the next day, but only managed a temporary improvement. A very minor niggle was that the access to the loo was a bit of a squeeze - though I have a greater than average circumference, so it might not be an issue for others!

The breakfast was excellent, the location was within a couple of minute’s walk from the station. The staff we dealt with were very polite, professional and helpful. It is a unique hotel and has been renovated to its original appearance with many of the architectural features preserved, a very elegant hotel. Our room was extremely specious with a comfortable sized bath in the en suite. The hotel is within walking distance of the DFDS terminal and the ferry can be seen from the hotel. There is a left luggage facility so on the day of departure - if travelling by ferry - a easy morning and early afternoon of exploring of the area using the map provided by the hotel can be had.

Sadly no lift but help was available with suitcases if needed. Other than that a excellent hotel.

This lovely old hotel has retained original period details making it a special experience. I wish more hotels would do the same. The rooms we had were huge, and lovely. There are Asian themed accents, reflecting the owner's origins. I thought the large bathroom, tiles and fixtures were gorgeous. The large bathtub was great for a chilly winter stay.

The restaurant menu was very tasty, but I would have preffered larger portions, away from the tasting menu format.

I was looking forward to staying here, but disasters with German railways left me stranded. I contacted the Augusta as I went along and they were exceptionally helpful. in the end I never got there. however, when things go wrong as my journey did, it is very much appreciated that they went out of their way to be helpful, including arranging for a key to be available in the middle of the night should I eventually arrive. great service.

Very nice staff, nice common space downstairs, room was very small but cosy and ok for a night. Bed was quite comfortable. They made me a sandwich late at night after a long day work even though the restaurant was closed.

Breakfast had very little vegetarian options so I skipped it.

Clean, I had a nice hot bath. Comfy single bed (I got a single room). Treated myself to dinner downstairs which was good. Helpful staff. The decor is heritage style which was well done, although there are no elevators as the building is old (which wasn't a problem for me). They let me keep my bicycle inside one of their corridors.

They should have a soap/shampoo dispenser in the bathroom, as a small bottle might not be enough and isn't environment friendly. I would have preferred a bicycle rack outside.

The location is very convenient. Near to the main road but in a quite small street. Easy to find free parking near the hotel. The Chinese girl who works at the reception is very friendly and helpful.

No elevator. WiFi is terrible, you need to login many times within one night. And both my IPad and Android phone reminded me that the connection of this WiFi is not safe:(
