The hostel itself is just off the Main Street in Basdoit (Moalboal). It is less than a 5 minute walk to everything in town. The atmosphere is relaxed and chill. Wifi was good and consistent. The staff were amazing. They were always friendly and happy to help. They planned tours, gave great recommendations (motorbike rentals, dinner, ATMs, smoothie places, etc), and were all-around great people dedicated to making sure their guests had the best experience. The common area is beautifully decorated, with couches and hammocks to chill in and tables and a bar to eat at. It’s an easy place to chat with people and make new friends. There’s beer pong, board games, books, and a dart board for during downtime. The dorm room houses 12 high quality bunk beds, each with a privacy curtain, shelf, light, bath towel, blanket, pillow, a very comfy mattress, and a locker at the bottom. Stepping into the airconned room after being outside all day is pure bliss. There is one communal bathroom with two enclosed toilets, two enclosed showers (with hot water and soap), and two sinks with plenty of space for toiletries. Their meals are the average price for restaurants around Moalboal, with great food (especially the smoothie bowls). Drinking water is available at all times. Maayong Hostel set a VERY high standard for the rest of our 3 month backpacking trip, and we plan on visiting the close friends we made in our 3 nights there in the near future. Some backpacking tips: - For swimming with sardines, don’t book any tours. Rent a snorkel for 100 PHP/day at Maayong and simply swim 25 metres off Panagsama beach for the exact same experience. - One of the best decisions we made was renting motorbikes. We’re both 18, the closest thing we’ve ever ridden to a moped is a bicycle, but we picked it up immediately. It’s actually laughable how easy it is. The ride to White Beach was a chill and easy 15 minutes, and it beats hiring a tricycle everywhere.

One singular cockroach. That’s it. The fact that this was the only “issue” (and a negligible one at that, because shocker, there are big bugs in the Philippines) should speak volumes about this place. We got very lucky with the people we met here. There aren’t a whole lot of other backpackers/travellers at the hostel, so solo travelling might be a bit of a different experience. This isn’t a complaint, just something I noticed and heard others talk about. It takes nothing away from our experience.

It was super clean, I felt like I was at my own home and the staff was SUPER friendly. I also absolutely loved the blanket - so comfortable! I was going through a break up, so for any solo traveller who needs to be alone but want to be around people too, this place is it! Even my friend couldn’t believe “this was a hostel”. There was Netflix on the TV and I believe the room is even better than some hotels and resorts on the island. There also was a table in my room, so I was able to work efficiently on my computer too. The wifi worked perfectly. I would definitely come back, just for the room and the staff, because they’re SO nice! They helped with all the tours and diving activities, plus they also helped me with my ATM/cash problem. I did my open advance water course and canyoneering. I was so sad to leave! The food was also super amazing (which is such a surprise) with good western options too. I loved the smoothies. I can’t believe the value of the prices for the food and drinks. I can’t wait to come back!

Literally NOTHING!

Where to start? The staff is super friendly Perfect localisation, close to everything but quiet Rooms are beautiful and super comfortable Netflix is a plus Breakfast was very good Very easy to book tours/transportation It's branded a hostel because it has a dorm but it gives hotel vibes for sure I was scared booking here because it's branded a hostel but it was the best choice, I have a feeling it's going to be the best accommodation on my whole 3 week trip to the philippines

Not the hostels fault but the road leading to the hostel gets very muddy when it rains so it's a little slippery

The staff were super lovely and helpful, and the place was beautiful and clean. The kitchen was also great with very reasonable prices, and they altered items on the menu to make them gluten free for me which was really kind. They let me read the ingredients on some things to make sure, and the kitchen was super clean. It was really hard to find gf food in moalboal. Thanks so much Almi and the rest of the team! The location was also an easy 8 min walk to a great beach, you can see turtles at the mermaid statue beach, and the location is in the main town. They also link you up with the tours which was great.

We loved our stay at the Maayong hostel. The location was very ideal, just off the main road - was quiet enough to feel peaceful but close enough to be walking distance from the beach where we had our dive center, food options , massage places, and tut tut drivers. We loved the staff working there! They treated us like 👑s and attended to our every need! Laundry, renting snorkels, enquiring on tours. The room was amazing, airconed, really clean, Netflix and streaming platforms. We highly recommend you stay here.

The Maayong hostel was perfect; it was a perfect place for chilling. The location is perfect, close to the beach but not on the main street, so it is relatively quiet at night. The one dorm room is spacious. There is a lot of space to lock your stuff in, the beds are comfy, and the shower and toilet facilities are quite clean. The AC is only on during the night, which I appreciate, because they are saving the energy. The personnel is great and very welcoming, and they know your names (since there are 20 people max staying in the hostel). The food is great, and I booked a Canoyeering tour with them, which was also smooth and great.

The only downside is the construction happening right now. I think a new dorm is being built, but the construction noise wakes you up in the morning, preventing you from a peaceful morning, but that will disappear. Since there is only one dorm room, it is also not super social. However, I have met people there, and we had great fun during my stay!

The perfect place to stay in Moalboal. We stayed in the huts and it was perfect for our 5 night stay. (There is construction at the moment but it didn't bother us). The staff couldn't be nicer & they were so helpful. We had breakfast there every morning and it was delicious! The location is also perfect.

This isn't a reflection on the staff / hostel but we got a driver from the hostel and it wasn't good. We went from Moalboal to Oslob which was supposed to be at least 2hrs & ended up being 1hr 30mins (this was not a good thing). The driver was driving so erratically and it was extremely dangerous. So maybe organise your own transport.

The location was great. About a 10 minute walk down to Panagsama Beach for the Sardine Run. The lobby/restaurant area is very nice and I ate there a few times. Really enjoyed my stay here. They helped arranged a few different activities and a motorbike rental while I was there. Rooms were cleaned regularly and the beds were comfy and private. TIP: message them about arranging a motorbike rental prior to arrival. The people renting the bikes might pick you up from the bus stop to save you from a slightly overpriced tuk-tuk ride if you don't negotiate properly.

Maybe not the most social hostel, but a great place to sleep and explore Moalboal.

Very luxe private room at a non party hostel. Great shower and the whole premises is very clean. Also good food and very friendly/ helpful staff. Location also great, close to restaurants and the beach. They also offer lots of tours, we really enjoyed canyoneering

It’s a little bit more expensive than other properties but in my opinion definitely worth it. Please don’t go whale shark watching in Oslob, it’s really unethical ( people feed them daily just so they stay there, while they should be roaming) - wish they wouldn’t offer this tour because of this

My stay at Maayong Hostel in Panglao was absolutely wonderful! The girls working there were incredibly nice and friendly, always ready with a warm smile and helpful advice. The staff really are the superstars that made it such a good place to stay and deserve such a high rating! The cleanliness of the hostel was impressive, making it feel like a home away from home. Plus, its convenient location made it a breeze to explore the beautiful surroundings. I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay during my trip. Maayong Hostel truly made my Panglao experience memorable, and I can't wait to return!
