Excellent room and view. Very quiet (our major requirement). Very good breakfast. Very friendly - and helpful - staff. A very nice surprise: music only in the restaurant, well chosen, and not loud. (In the past, I've stayed in Pousadas with music in all spaces - and did complained about this in the evaluation. So this is a plus and other Pousadas should follow this example.) The WiFi worked perfectly.

The lounge/ bar. As a rule, Pousadas have a bar but also other common spaces where guests can relax, read or talk. In this case, there's a single space (bar/ lounge) and not comfortable for said activities. The pool is smaller than expected - but still adequate, given the (small) number of the guests that used it.

We had a sea view which was excellent. The weather was changeable and so we could see the ocean in its different moods! The room was well appointed and thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis. All the staff we met during our stay were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a treat with a good range of hot and cold food, sweet and savoury and some interesting Azorean bits to try out. The setting was really lovely, the hotel is concealed behind the walls of a 17th century fort and we were able to walk along the walls of the fort - great for pictures. There were two small swimming pools for children and adults and access to the town was a 10-15 minute walk along the sea front. Would thoroughly recommend the experience.

There was very little not to like in this hotel. Perhaps the room with its dark wood floor and ceiling- which was certainly very smart - was just a bit on the dark side despite having patio windows onto a small balcony- on one occasion we had an island-wide power cut which made the room very dark indeed (not the hotel's fault of course!).

View was spectacular. Breakfast was very good except for the coffee. Room was comfortable. Hotel was quiet and clean. Reception staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly. Dining staff except for one server was attentive, friendly, and accomodating.

In-room literature references room service but there was none. Elevator was out of service. One of the electrical outlets in the room did not work. Menu was not appealing (and very boring after 7 days) to this American. I do not understand the shower design; having only half a shower wall = a very wet floor and very steamy mirrors. Disappointing to be informed that although there were functioning blinds, lowering them, for a diner's protection from the sun, required too much work. We left two nights early and wi-fi service was out of order across the zone for almost two whole days but we were not given a discount on our bill.

View was fabulous; room was airy and comfortable; breakfast was excellent; location was amazing - not only picturesque but easy walking to town, marina, restaurants. Small swimming pool fit the bill, and walking the walls of the fort was something truly exceptional. We went on a boat trip with the hotel's recommended tour operator to the Goat Islands - a small but safe open boat, marvelous visit inside a cave on the island and swimming in the blue sea.

There are some signs of aging: a little rust on the outdoor chairs, hall carpets getting thin.

The location; modern interior design in an old fort; breakfast selection was excellent; selection of toiletries: ; powerful hairdryer; beds were very comfortable; staff were very friendly and helpful; free car parking a big plus; everywhere was very clean; bedrooms were cleaned daily and the beds were exceptionally comfortable; a swimming pool; air conditioning was fantastic in our room.

The bar was too dark and the tv continuously on was off putting. No jam, marmalade or honey laid out for breakfast. Some of the electrical sockets were no working and the fridge didn’t work.

Reception was excellent and facilities within the complex were really good. The ambience (in a fort!) was delightfully quirky. Sunrise was brilliant, as was the outdoor swimming pool. Breakfast was plentiful and enjoyable. The room was really quiet. TV had a wide range of channels, incl. English-language BBC and Sky.

Evening meal was let down by really cold plates, which could surely easily be corrected. One of the beds was very loose and noisy. In addition, we had to ask for tea and coffee-making facilities (i.e. a kettle and cups) which was surprising. But we got them immediately (though had to pay).

Wonderful and helpful staff, room air conditioning was great and quiet, loved the view from the room, room was cozy and clean, great look in the bathroom. Flavio and Fernanda were wonderful and welcoming. Booked here after 2 of 3 nights at another hotel were awful. Even had dinner at the restaurant which was great. Highly recommend. And loved that it was in the old fortress.

Some might think it’s dated but I loved it.

It is stunningly beautiful, the views are dream-worthy, and it’s really meaningful to stay in this type of historic property. The staff is also great, as is the breakfast. The pool is really nice too.

The bed wasn’t very comfortable. Also I stayed in a room in the older part and it was a bit musty, and the wall was warped/peeling in one area. But I imagine that this is nearly unavoidable, given the high humidity here.

Excellent Hotel with friendly/helpful staff. The Historic location in the fortress definitely makes the place. They even provided a “lunchbox” in the morning when we left at 5:45. Great spot!

I wish they had had a Queen bed instead of two singles. The outdoor chairs were in rough shape. The TV could be bigger (if you want to watch tv there). The food in the restaurant was good, but pricey.

Unique position in one of the old forts; very quiet, stunning views. Excellent breakfast with a large variety of dishes.

The air-conditioning made the dining rooms where breakfast was served quite chilly in the morning. In our room (106) there was a metal knob in the floor right in front of the WC - big enough to hurt your toes.
