Good size room. Fridge in the room. Easy walking distance of several restaurants. Extra pillows were sort and recieved promptly.

Like most places in portugal, there were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

The location of the hotel is good, being central to most main areas of Pombal. The hotel's close proximity to the railway station is very useful, but the sound of the continually passing trains might prevent lighter sleepers from gaining a solid night's sleep. The bedroom was spacious, with a small (uncovered) balcony, which we were unable to use, sadly, because it rained almost all the time we stayed in Pombal. There was adequate storage space for clothes and other items. The bathroom was a little cramped, with the door creating an obstruction once one was inside. However, the shower was fine. We had a bath with a shower at one end, which can be difficult, but the shower end was fully protected by tiled walls, making it almost like a cubicle, while the rest of the open bath space was covered by a thick, resilient shower-curtain, which was the best of its type we have ever experienced in a hotel. Breakfast was adequate and plentiful (mainly cold buffet food), apart from running out of tea on our final morning (see below). The photograph of the front of the hotel on Booking.com does not do it justice. Inside things look a lot brighter and cleaner. The use of tiles throughout almost all of the hotel, including many walls and floors, provides a clean, fresh and very 'new' look.

For considerable periods of time the Reception was left unattended. One of the receptionists, with whom we dealt, seemed to be doing half-a-dozen other jobs as well; this included clearing breakfast tables and vainly searching for black tea. Running out of black tea for breakfast on our final morning was not happily accepted, especially as no effort was made to rectify this serious omission. This is the most popular type of tea and any stock should never be exhausted, despite whatever demand there may be. In fact, anticipated demand should be a reason for ensuring an ample supply for guests. It was sad to note (only after we had booked) that the hotel restaurant was not available to provide dinner for guests; at least, not while we were there. The mention of the high-standard hotel restaurant on Booking.com is therefore misleading. It was one of the reasons we chose this hotel. It took us four of the five days that we were at the hotel to discover the location of the staircase. We always used the (slow) elevator, but the stairway would have been essential in any emergency. There were signs indicating where the staircase was, but few of these were very clear or obviously noticeable. However, instructions in case of a fire or an emergency were in a leaflet among other hotel information in the bedroom. This is no fault of the hotel, but guests should be aware of the construction of a block of apartments and commercial space (shops and offices) directly in front of the hotel, on the opposite side of the (narrow) one-way street. This was under basic construction when we stayed at the hotel in February 2024. The work continues throughout the week but not during weekends. The bedrooms at the front of the hotel have consequently lost (or will lose) some light, and certainly any decent view. If this is likely to be a problem for a prospective guest, it might be better to request a room at the rear of the hotel (as ours was), overlooking a quiet(er) square.

The staff that checked me and was very friendly and helpful.

My bed was On wheels and was rolling around as I got on and off it. The shower curtains did not hold the water in the basin. When I got down to breakfast there was no hot food.

There is no daily cleaning service. They are using Covid as an excuse for this! Clients are only warned about this at check-in, so they can’t even book another hotel. The staff is very unprofessional, untrained and bordering on rude. Breakfast was badly organized. Overall, very poor service compared to other hotels in the area.
