Fantastic location with plethora of hummingbirds. The lodge was super cosy, and the bed was to die for. We have enjoyed spending time on the balcony of our little lodge, watching the hummingbird flit around right in front of us. The restaurant was lovely. The gardens were well kept with ponds and a waterfall nearby. There are walking trails available right outside your front door into the forest. I would also like to mention that the staff has brought hot water bottles in the evenings as it does get cold in the valley. This was a really nice touch.

The access road is not for the faint-hearted but as we found out can be done without 4x4 or manual car.

Good breakfast. Very pleasant staff Cabins were warm and cosy. Bathrooms, all good. Location of our cabin was beautiful. The location of the complex and the grounds were stunning. No WiFi in cabins but not a problem for us.

The bar area and the restaurant were too cold to relax. We asked for the log fire to be kept burning but this was not listened to. Most people sat with their outdoor gear on. If the bar was more comfortable, temperature wise, more guests would chill and relax and use the bar for drinks etc.

The location of the lodge is amazing. Such an idyllic, lovely place. The rooms are nice with large bathrooms but the beds are the worst. The electric heater and hot water bottles in bed are great. Adding a fridge to the rooms would be a big plus. The property is well maintained and you can find multiple seating areas where you can enjoy the gardens and nature. We have spotted quetzal birds near the parking lot and multiple humming birds. The staff is very friendly. And although the prices of the food in the restaurant are quite high, the food itself is very tasteful.

The bed in room 24 is really really bad. We felt multiple iron springs when we laid down and hurt our backs after two nights of sleeping there. They couldn’t help us with a proper solution (other room, mattress, discount or anything else) so we had to sleep on a pile of pillows in order to not feel the springs… We have told this at the reception, but are not sure if they are really going to invest in new mattresses. We have also read other reviews with the same issue.

Stunning location and top facilities in a remote valley known for its bird life, especially Quetzales. I was fortunate to see a mated couple of Quetzales building a nest on-site. I would feel very comfortable spending a few extra days here, with at least one just perched on the balcony of Room #23 listening to and surveying everything outside, and at least a full morning hiking round the beautiful property. Breakfast had wonderful options and dinner menu was outstanding. Staff was uniformly excellent, friendly, and helpful - absolute role models.

The large windows are a double-edged sword - you get a great view of the valley, but it makes it difficult to keep the room warm. People sensitive to the cold definitely need to bring some extra clothes!

Gorgeous eco-lodge in the cloud forest; stunning gardens with plenty of bird life; very kind and attentive staff; simple but sparkling accommodation. I loved sitting in my rocking chair on the veranda, taking photos of the hummingbirds when it was too rainy to walk.

Menu was a little limited, especially for vegetarians. Availability of excursions was also a little limited. I went on the tour to search for the resplendent quetzal, which was successful, and on a beautiful tour to the paramo but was unable to go on a general birding tour because a couple had taken the only available guide for a private excursion.

The garden is fantastic. The rooms are comfortable with a little electric heater. Lots of hot water. There is even a quetzal nest on the property. Breakfast is very good. The staff is helpful. There are hiking trails on the property.

The menu for the dinners is limited with small portions. Trogon Lodge is a big organization so we feel that the atmosphere is a bit more strained - very different than staying at a smaller family type hotel…

We went to see the quetzal and this place did not disappoint. Greivin was a fantastic host and very knowledgeable guide, we saw the quetzal on the property as well as on the tour he led where he always had our best view over other groups and the welfare of the birds in mind. The property itself couldn't be more beautiful, the gardens are absolutely incredible, so lush and colourful with a river running through it as well as several ponds. We didn't try dinner but breakfast was very good. The restaurant area and also the bar area have WiFi and are lovingly decorated, beautiful place to spend time, I highly recommend this lodge.

Absolutely nothing!

The hotel is very special. We had our own cosy lodge. The staff is very friendly and helpful. As it can be a bit cold at night, we even had hot-water bottles. There is also a heater. In the spacious area of the Trogon Lodge, there is very much to see, for example different species of plants and animals like humming birds, lizards and even Quatzals. The lodge does also offer a shorter and a longer exciting hiking track in the cloud forest. We booked a Quetzal watching tour in the morning and really saw about 5 Quetzals.

An amazing stay, the property is stunning with beautiful ponds, vegetation, birds, nature trails, a river with waterfalls and exceptional food. We were blown away by the details, including warm hot water bottles placed in our beds for warm sheets. If you love a lodge experience with a natural feel, this stunning place will exceed your expectations! The staff was amazing too. We went on the Quetzal birding experience and couldn't believe how amazingly special it was to see these stunning birds in person. Dinner and Breakfast were also amazing and I enjoyed trout from the property ponds in both my meals!

The only mention is the bathrooms have some wear with cracked and broken tile in the shower walls, but that didn't bother us in the least. It was a truly special place!

The rooms were spacious. The food was fantastic! The staff was very friendly and attentive. We took the Quetzal Quest at 5:30 AM and were rewarded with a nesting pair right on site! We then got in a van and drove to other sites where we saw many others looking for Quetzala and NADA. So we were very fortunate indeed!

The only negative was that we had to lug our bags up a steep incline up to our rooms.
