This was undoubtedly the accommodation with the warmest welcome during our trip to South Africa. Thank you to our hosts for the wonderful conversations and the excellent advice provided (meals and activities). They also managed reservations for our activities and meals on our behalf. In addition to having amazing hosts, the establishment is stunning and very well located. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. I highly recommend this place.

Breakfast location was perfect - on the stoep. I could imagine myself being an Ostrich feather Baron surrounded by/overlooking historical buildings. Add a sumptuous breakfast (Christo can really prepare eggs! be it scrambled or fried) and you have the perfect experience. Add Magda to the equation, always friendly and mingling with guests, making sure the breakfast is an experience not merely a meal. Well done!!

Christo and Magda the owners were so nice. He cooked the breakfast which was delicious and there was a good selection of uncooked too. Magda was so helpful with suggestions of where to go and she was so lovely. They also had there daughter staying Christina and she was also incredibly helpful and pleasant. Everything was perfect and would definitely stay again.

There aren't that many restaurants within walking distance but the taxis are cheap enough so it was fine.

On arrival we were greeted by the host family. A very warm welcome included great advice on what to do and see. Christo recommended Restaurants which we gladly chose. Buffelsdrift and Nostalgie (just next door) are excellent The guesthouse as such is absolutely lovely and the breakfast excellent. Christo and his family made the stay a truly memorable one. 10 out of 10!

The hosts went out of their way to accommodate us. The room was prepared and ready for our early arrival on a Saturday morning, and they and the staff were at all times exceptionally helpful and friendly. The room was very well appointed and the breakfast was tasty and served with aplomb. These are the establishments that give the hospitality industry a really good name and the hosts can be proud of flying the flag high!

The accommodation in an extension of the original building was spacious and comfortable. We combined our stay with a visit to the nearby Cango caves and the guest house was conveniently located in Oudtshoorn for shops and restaurants. .Our hosts were helpful and informative and provided an excellent breakfast. Overall very good value for the price!

Lovely to visit with Christo and Magda again and to see that the wonderful high standards have not changed an iota. This time we had a veranda room that was absolutely beautiful and complete with all our requirements, even down to a fan that works during load shedding. Once again we were welcomed with such a friendly smile. Thanks Christo for making our arrival such a joy after a hot drive during the day. As usual Magda was busy seeing to all the guests, most of whom seemed to arrive at the same time as us. Magda you never seem to stop with checking that the rooms are in order and that all guests have everything they need. The suite is lovely, large and airy. The en-suite is cool, has a twin basin, and lovely shower cubicle. Of course breakfast is another time for being totally spoiled with the spread that Christo and Magda serve up. Such a lovely selection of cereals, fruit, juices and yoghurts as well as the standard freshly cooked options made to your choice. It was lovely and so enjoyable being able to sit out on the front veranda in the morning shade and enjoy the weather. Magda, many thanks for once again making a booking at Nostalgie for dinner. This was just the cherry on the top of your wonderful hospitality. We will definitely be back again on our next trip through your area and we look forward to extending our friendship with you guys.

Nothing at all, it was wonderful (again)

For me, everything about 88 Baron Van Reede guesthouse was first class. Starting with a very personal and friendly welcome from the owners. The rooms are exceptionally clean and well appointed, high percale cotton bedding. Wi-Fi. Provision of a stocked payment drink’s refrigerator. Filtered drinking water. Importantly room lighting and fan that operates during load shedding. The breakfast selection is first class, there is secure parking on site, the pool area is clean and a good size with towels provided. The property is excellent value for money and will definitely be on my return list.

Honestly, everything! Our hosts couldn’t be more accommodating and absolutely set the standard for guesthouse accommodation. It’s really above that. They’re not a hotel but would put plenty of 5* hotels to shame. If you want to stay in Oudtshoorn (and it’s well worth diverting from the garden route) then this is a great choice. Food recommendations were also spot on, both locally and also many hours away. Massive thumbs up! 100% recommend the meerkats too!

The warm friendly greeting of the host will absolutely make me come back. Everything is planned and well organized. Just an other catogory...and this style in SA is a wonderful place to go back to. The breakfast was perfect. The extra mile they went to get me a spesific present for some one was amazing. Thank you you guys were excellent. You are an absolute bonus for Oudtshoorn's business's......
